AMERICAblog: CNN's Campbell Brown accuses McCain of sexist treatment of Sarah Palin

  • devlzadvocate · 1 year ago
I'm shocked. Dan must not like JM much.
  • mf_roe · 1 year ago
Campbell is a sly fox, adding insult to injury when done well is a great show.
  • risa87 · 1 year ago
Campbell Brown has certainly put a whole new focus on the Sarah situation. More women should speak out, especially Hillary.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
Hear, hear, I just wish Hillary had the cojones to make an honest comment about Palin. However, if Bill is any indication, she might be as "in love" with Palin as Billie boy is.

Frankly, at this point, the two of them are making me angry as heck.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Ya know, I find it just as much Sarah Palin's fault as John McCain's. Who is to say she is desperately trying to remain in the closet? She is just as culpable. If she is truly that LEADER among LEADERS then why the hell doesn't she tell McCain to let her speak? Has she? There has been nothing written about the circumstances behind the decision to keep her away from reporters.

Must McCain "let her" speak to the press? I mean, we are all free citizens right? This has to be partially her decision to not speak to the press, or she has agreed not to. It shows major weakness.
  • grandma · 1 year ago
Exactly...she talks about standing up to her own Party....can't she stand up to McCain???...
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Poor little victim, Sarah, can't speak to the press.
  • evasdaddy · 1 year ago
Believe me Cowboy, Palin knows exactly what is going on, and Campbell Brown knows exactly what is going on.

The bottom line is that Sarah Palin has exactly ZERO business being in this presidential race. She was selected for a very UNpresidential reason, which was to breathe life into a dying campaign. Her convention speech gave the Republicans something to latch onto, and latch they did.

Unfortunately, as we have seen since that speech, she has nothing else to say. (Fact is, the speech itself was not even hers, it was written by a George Bush aide).

To let Sarah Palin speak her mind now would be political suicide. She would be asked questions that she could not possibly answer without sinking McCain's candidacy.

Think about it: "Governor Palin, why did you change your position on the "troopergate' investigation?" or "Governor Palin, why do you believe that Alaska's proximity to Russia gives you foreign policy experience?"

Sarah Palin absolutely does NOT want to be interviewed. Campbell Brown is essentially blowing the whistle on her by saying she needs to "be freed".

Brown is no idiot, trust me.
  • grandma · 1 year ago
Wow.....I don't care much for Campbell Brown and don't watch her...but wow...this is good.

It brings another questions to mind also......why is Sarah Palin accepting this kind of treatment from the McCain camp???
  • tbhull · 1 year ago
Pressure is mounting on McCain's bailout vote.

    http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/09...

Dems appear to wise up to this bullshit, but I still do not see how they will know which way McCain will go or if he will go..

    Classic case of political chicken.

If this is all policital, why don't the dems take the lead and say no.
  • devlzadvocate · 1 year ago
why not let the republicans commit first?. they are the president's party
  • tbhull · 1 year ago
I agree, but it appears man repubs will not commit if McCain does not commit. What do dems do if McCain does not vote?
  • devlzadvocate · 1 year ago
they win the election for sure.
  • tbhull · 1 year ago
    Not necessarily.

Taking a stand based on principle (not principal) against BushCo's last minute poorly thought out histrionics is honest and shows confidence and leadership skills, all of which the dems (other than Obama) have lacked of late.
  • tbhull · 1 year ago
My point is leading with a no is better than reacting when the public appears to clearly say "NO" to the bailout:

    http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087...

Make McCain snuggle closer to turd Bush or follow the new leaders.
  • devlzadvocate · 1 year ago
this whole thing is a whole lot to digest, but the more I think about it, the more I wonder if this is a Bush "fuck you" to McCain and the Dems both. Certainly, this did NOT just sneak up on them. They knew about it in advance. Many people did. They waited for this moment. They knew McCain and Obama would be in tight circumstances. I still think there is more to it than that, but this is very strategic planning. They don't do ANYTHING without thinking it through.
  • tbhull · 1 year ago
If the dems say no to the bailout and the economy collpases, which it could very well could, then ask the public who they trust to rebuild Obama or McCain? I think that choice is clear. As long as the issue is the economy, the winner is Obama.

It sounds more like a CNN statement, and Campbell Brown was chosen to deliver it. Good statement. though.

Isn't 'delicate flower' a George Costanza / Seinfeld quote?
  • risa87 · 1 year ago
Both sides appear to be scared shitless to make any decision on the bailout and it's showing.
  • devlzadvocate · 1 year ago
I don't blame them actually. In two years, it will be a replay of what we have been hearing this election. Senatory (fill in the blank) voted for/didn't vote for that bailout bill that bilked taxpayers and rewarded the bad actors on Wall Street. Don't re-elect him/her. No matter what happens, you know that's what you are going to hear. Its kind of a no win.
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
Is this the October surprise in which we have been waiting?
  • tbhull · 1 year ago
Yes, or perhaps the [ossible market meltdown that will follow.
  • devlzadvocate · 1 year ago
They are September surprises now. Eleven states are already voting!!!!
  • devlzadvocate · 1 year ago
    u betcha Karol! how r u tonight???
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
    I am well. Thanks
  • Ben Dover · 1 year ago
Ok, let's see why this won't happen.

    1. John McCain doesn't speak for the McCain campaign.

    2. If he pisses off Caribou Barbie, she just may throw him off the ticket.
  • risa87 · 1 year ago
If I knew that tbhull, I could have my own show on Faux Business Channel.
  • tbhull · 1 year ago
Incorrect. You do not need to know anything other than how to read a teleprompter to be on Faux .
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
Well that isn't ALL you need to be a Faux newscaster. You need the prerequisite T and A with a pretty face as well...THEN you can be famous on Faux.
  • tbhull · 1 year ago
Neil Cavuto has the man boobs and a fat ass, but not the pretty face. Explain that.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
LOLOL, heck no. Who could even explain Cavuto???
  • tbhull · 1 year ago
Cavuto has false teeth, soft gums and his tonsils have been removed for professional convenience.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
Eeeek, you just made me see the worst, I just know there will be no sleep for me tonight.

I guess Bill OReally must be BFF with him.

I wonder if Karzai would have mentioned his 1-yr old baby to Joe Biden. "aw, what's his name? Mirwais? aww, that's a sweet name...mine is called Track. let's arrange a play date soon".
then they had to exhume henry kissinger so Palin could be schooled in eastern european affairs. they should let henry nap. you can learn more on wikipedia anyway.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
You're absolutely right, but then again middle easterners aren't really known for being politically correct about women. But, having said that, I'm quite sure he NEVER would have asked that question to Hillary.
  • djm8 · 1 year ago
Transcription error: Brown said "confident," not "competent." Important distinction. Please correct.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
    John,
Actually in your text (that you picked up from Huff Po) is WRONG in one section. In the quote: "This woman is from Alaska from crying out loud. She is strong. She is tough. She is competent...."

She said CONFIDENT (in the video) thus the wording competent (from the translation text) is incorrect.
  • unrepentant_expat · 1 year ago
    ...'the wording competent is incorrect.

    COPY THAT

  • devlzadvocate · 1 year ago
No changes to tickets or ballots at this point....11 states are already voting folks. This is it.

and when McCain doesn't comply?? Will Campbell then say "pretty pretty please"?

every time McCain opens his mouth lately, all I hear is Czechoslovakia.
  • MF · 1 year ago
I heard "confident," not "competent." That would be more factual, methinks.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
    You're right about both points.

Ms. Brown is a little pissed I'd say. She stuck it to Obama pretty hard initially, but that's good. Because, now, no one can say she gave OB-man a break, and everything she throws a the Palin girl is legit. Expect the other news folks to follow suit. This is good news, and plays into Obama's hands. This is the McCain train exploding in front of our eyes.
  • zavlin · 1 year ago
whats really funny about this is that i didnt see this as being sexist :P
Theyr not coddling her because shes a woman, theyr coddling her because SHES A BAD CANIDATE. But i find it really funny that someone like campbell is calling them on being sexist. Oh man.
  • Steve_in_CNJ · 1 year ago
right. they kept dan quayle under wraps too.
  • nsr · 1 year ago
That was my first thought too. They're keeping her under wraps because she's a chronic liar. But yeah, let her talk, by all means.
  • evasdaddy · 1 year ago
Zavlin, any thinking person understands that Sarah Palin is a ridiculous choice for V.P.

Campbell Brown's point is valid, however, when you consider that John McCain is clearly USING Palin as a "showpiece", as opposed to a viable running mate. Brown's correctly points out that Palin is not allowed to speak. NOT ALLOWED TO SPEAK, doesn't that strike anyone as being an antiquated way to treat a woman?

What Brown left out, of course, is the fact that Palin is perfectly okay with not being thrown out into the spotlight. We all know she is complicit in this stonewalling, that her exposure to the press would lead to questions about "troopergate" and myriad other questionable facets of her opportunistic approach to politics.

Campbell Brown knows exactly what she's doing. Her real point is not that Palin is being held down, it's that she is being kept away from reporters.

Hence, "Free Sarah Palin". Thanks, Campbell Brown. I agree
  • Catsandbeer.com · 1 year ago
Campbell says Palin is strong, tough, and confident. How would she know that?
  • jimfromthefoothills · 1 year ago
thank you. isn't that a value judgement? Just because she is from alaska campbell can make those judgements? Campbel, you are pretty stupid.
  • CitizenTwenty · 1 year ago
    That girl reporter...
    She's just makin' crazy talk...
    Ignore her.
    And those of her ilk.
    Sincerely,
    Your "Unofficial" Advisor...

  • CPL · 1 year ago
Don't get it twisted, John. Campbell Brown is just as dumb as Sarah Palin, and she's tired of being out there by herself to demonstrate her lack of intelligence and needs that spotlight on Palin to get it off herself.
  • evasdaddy · 1 year ago
So CPL, do I understand you to say that Sarah Palin is dumb, and lacks intelligence?

Your comment that Campbell Brown wants to get the spotlight "off herself" confuses me. Why would a major network news anchor want the spotlight "off herself"? Also, do you really believe that there is more of a spotlight on Campbell Brown than there is on Sarah Palin?

Your thinking is weak. Campbell Brown made an excellent point about Palin's ridiculous sequestration, and you are either too afraid to admit it, or too stupid to understand it.

    I lean toward the latter.
  • Ubiquitous · 1 year ago
    This is daft....

Sarah Palin is barely qualified to be Governor of Alaska and only manages that because her staff cover for her
She is not, never has been and never will be, qualified to be an ailing heartbeat away from the Presidency. This needs to be said over and over and over until people listen.

And if a 30 second discussion of childrens' names counts as 'foreign policy experience' then Obama's degree in Foreign Relations and his various trips abroad must just about make him King of the Universe.

If the MSM were doing their job properly, this would be stated ad nauseam.
  • munjoyfan · 1 year ago
yo Campbell. Way to go. Let us not forget that Campbell Brown broke through to the truth in NO in the immediate aftermath of Katrina, by confronting federal officials about the misery in the superdome and flooding in the east wards when they were busy congratulating themselves about having dodged the bullet. She absolutely singlehandedly changed the tone and upped the ante for coverage of Katrina. She has been my hero for quite a while.
  • munjoyfan · 1 year ago
PS I would add that Palin is acting, and being handled, exactly as though she were miss alaska. It's a role she is comfortable in.

At least she covered her cleavage in NY.
  • curlytoes79 · 1 year ago
Jeez louise, the world is ending and they expect us to CARE about phony histrionics about sexism?? Sorry idiots, you're not distracting us this time. It's hard to get people to care about some rich politician's ego when they are losing their jobs and homes.
  • Milli · 1 year ago
She can't do press conferences until she gets the permanent pull string implanted in her back - "Thanks, but no thanks!", "Lipstick!", "Ebay!". Its too tough for her to remember all these things on her own.
  • ShirleyGoodnessanMercy · 1 year ago
Free Sarah Palin! Free Sarah Palin! Ha ha ha ha ha!
  • jmcon007 · 1 year ago
Except that not answering questions from anyone is Palin's idea, not the campaign's. She's in mortal fear, as she is the only one in the world who really understands the fraud that is 'Sarah Palin".
  • jimfromthefoothills · 1 year ago
campbell, sorry to tell you but if you were a guy you would be swinging a hammer somewhere. You are stupid and always trying to report as a woman. How about trying to be a reporter instead.
  • MNUSA · 1 year ago
    Go Campbell!
  • cwzilla · 1 year ago
Hey cambell dont you understand they dont want here to be infront of reporters Is Because she isnt tough unless shes shooting things from a plane she strong when she eats her moose burgers moose burger farts are deadly and as far as competent well she speaks for that herself not very look at her record that should tell you how competent she is no wonder there keeping her from the press.........the Mccain people dont want us to see just how Incompetent she is
  • Butch1 · 1 year ago
Coming from a right leaning commentator like herself, that was interesting. Perhaps, they too, have had enough of the McSame jive.
