AMERICAblog: Coleman announces lawsuit over MN Senate election

  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 10 months ago
How crude: Norm is trotting out the Bush v. Gore argument that HIS voters were denied their rights. It's only a denial of rights if you're a whiny Republican.
  • graymatter · 10 months ago
Of COURSE he is. The same guy who said that if he were Franken, he'd have bowed out of even a recount to save the taxpayers the expense. Lying sack of GOP shit. Wait, is that redundant?
  • nicho · 10 months ago
Actually, it's a double redundancy. GOP = lying = sack of shit

Just say "GOP" and you've already covered the other two.
  • kevinbgoode · 10 months ago
In contest after contest, we've seen that the Right has to be PRIED out of office - even when the voters turn them out, they react with arrogance and a sense of entitlement. I'm not sure why the Democrats haven't figured it out by now that Republicans view elections as a mere cute formality - and that they are the only ones entitled to hold office.

And now comes the news that Barry is considering Sanjay Gupta, corporate stooge and apologist for the medical-industrial complex as Surgeon General. Guess it's just more reaching out . . . . .

    We've been so fucking had . . . . . .

    God, what were we thinking?
  • An_American_Karol · 10 months ago
nicho, I am thrilled with this choice. I think Gupta is a great choice
  • LeftCoastOracle · 10 months ago
On what evidence do you base your assertion that Sanjay Gupta is a "corporate stooge and apologist for the medical-industrial complex?" Gupta is a brilliant neurological surgeon and superb communicator, just the combination we need in a surgeon general. He would advocate for good health practices better than any previous surgeon general.
  • nicho · 10 months ago
I base it on the fact that he constantly repeats corporate lies to oppose universal, single payer health care. He has attacked Medicare as a "failed government program" (a lie). He told a series of lies, which were proven lies by Media Matters in attacking Michael Moore and Sicko. You may get wet undies from his cute face, but he spews the corporate medical line whenever possible.

Why do you refer to President-Elect Obama as "Barry?" Show a little respect and call him by the name he currently uses "Barrack." He's a grown-up now.
  • LeftCoastOracle · 10 months ago
Ha ha ha! If I got wet undies over Sanjay Gupta it would be history making since I'm a lesbian. As for Gupta's pronouncements re single payer healthcare; Obama does not favor same so it is not surprising that he would tap Gupta as his surgeon general. He appropriately will likely be chief cheerleader for healthy living and preventive health care programs and that's a good thing.

I am glad that Franken did not concede, though, as Gore did in 2000 and Kerry in 2004.
  • LeftCoastOracle · 10 months ago
There seems to be a misconception re Al Gore's loss of the presidency in 2000. That race was decided by the U.S. Supreme Court; the highest court in the land. Once they made their decision, although flawed, there was no further action to be taken. Remember, Gore did not petition the U.S. Supreme Court, Bush did and precisely because he knew he had the majority on the court. It's time to let go of the fiction that Al Gore threw the 2000 election.

John Kerry is another matter. He left millions of dollars in his election fund and walked away from a race that, in my view, was stolen by the State of Ohio. Specifically by the Sec'y of State of Ohio at the time: Ken Blackwell. The same Ken Blackwell who is now running for Chair of the RNC. Kerry could have and should have sued to overturn the results of the Ohio election results.
  • MNUSA · 10 months ago
You are absolutely right. The Bush Supreme Court appointed W our president. The voters didn't matter.
  • An_American_Karol · 10 months ago
    OT, but so cool.
Obama has approached Sanjay Gupta from CNN as Attorney Gen.
I love Gupta; he has warmth, intelligence and humor.
While reporting from Iraq he preformed brain surgery on a soldier and saved his life. I can't think of anyone who would serve better.
  • LeftCoastOracle · 10 months ago
I just saw Wolf Blitzer report this on the Situation Room and agree with you completely. He is a superb communicator which is really important to the Surgeon General position. He is not only a really good neurological surgeon but would be able to advocate for good health practices better than any previous surgeon general. I hope this happens.
  • An_American_Karol · 10 months ago
And, he is someone I could have a beer with!!!! laugh.
  • LeftCoastOracle · 10 months ago
    I'll drink to that.
  • MNUSA · 10 months ago
Good choice. Gupta has been doing a lot about obesity and prevention of chronic illnesses. He must work 20 hours a day.

When have Democrats ever conceded an election in the name of the nation? Al Gore conceded, but not for the good of the nation, but so he could collect a massive corporate payout for throwing the election to the Republicans. Since then he's taken in well over $100 million from corporate interests, possibly double that. (Like his buddy Bill Clinton, he chooses not to report his income.) Sorry, I know my American history pretty well, and I don't recall any instances of Democrats do anything for the good of the nation. They always say that it's for the good of the nation, but if you follow the money trail, you'll find it was really good for their pocketbook.
  • LeftCoastOracle · 10 months ago
Caution: there's a difference between history and yourstory. A cynical interpretation of an event is just not history. Al Gore had not choice once the U.S. Supreme Court weighed in. It is the highest court in the U.S. and its decision, while flawed, was final.
  • Soundboy_jeff_meanie · 10 months ago
umm... Kerry? he could've fought, Florida was fubar in 2004 as well.
  • MNUSA · 10 months ago
Where on earth have you been for the last 8 years. And why are you on this site if you feel that way? You obviously don't know your history, you know what FOX News and right-wing talk radio tell you and truth is not something they concern themselves with.
  • ontarioemperor · 10 months ago
One notable exception. Nixon chose not to contest the election of 1960, despite the closeness of some of the contests.
  • Soundboy_jeff_meanie · 10 months ago
"If I were trailing, I'd take a step back" - Norm Coleman 11-5-2008

I suppose he meant to finish that thought with "... and consult my lawyers on how to force Franken to concede."

    egad.

what kind of Senator does this make him out to be? so much for putting country first.
  • An_American_Karol · 10 months ago
Coleman is a hypocritical sack of dog poop. The longer this goes the worse he is going to look.
  • MNUSA · 10 months ago
I'm shocked! Shocked! In 2000 Repubs were angry at Al Gore because he wanted to do a recount. Maybe Coleman can take it to the Bush Supreme Court and have them appoint him.
  • Chit · 10 months ago
Did you type that with a straight face? I think both parties are equally guilty of this, don't be asinine. And tehre is ample evidence Franken has one this by stealing votes. I don't care what party you belong to, that is unacceptable.
  • Steve_in_CNJ · 10 months ago
    please provide the "ample evidence".
also provide examples of democrats suing to overturn an election.
here's a pretty good rebuttal of the republican smear against minnesota election officials:
    http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2009/01/did-wall...
read that with a straight face.
  • ARP · 10 months ago
It's a good move for Coleman. What does he have to lose? The GOP will provide the court costs if he loses and he obviously doesn't care about his reputation. There's also the ancillary benefit of tying up the seat for a few months so that Franken can't participate in many of the close votes that are bound to happen in the first few months as Obama tries to pass some major economic legislation. I hate him for it, but I can't fault his logic.
  • Laughable · 10 months ago
I'm sorry, but I hope Franken loses this one. While I'd love to see a dem in there, Franken is a disgusting pig whose shown zero ethics in this recount. I want CLEAN democrats in office, not dirty ones.
  • sputnik · 10 months ago
    Um, what? Cite please.
  • shell · 10 months ago
"Laughable" is either senile and is mistaking Franken for someone else, or it is a troll.
  • shell · 10 months ago
What really cracks me up is that the GOP absolutely HATES "trial lawyers." Yet they have no problem lawyering up when they either need one (Scooter) or just want to make trouble (Norm).

How they can even say they hate trial lawyers is beyond me. I guess because the talking heads never burst out laughing when they say that.
