AMERICAblog: Colin Powell blasts GOP, Limbaugh

  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
Since you mentioned Ann Coulter, where is she? Last election she was on every morning show.
  • pdxprobert · 1 year ago
Somehow her jaw got broken and its currently wired shut...
  • vkobaya · 1 year ago
Blessings and mercy! <g> Hope it stays wired shut for the next 30-40 years.
  • FunMe · 1 year ago
Where is she? My guess: an rehab facility for her CRYSTAL METH addiction.

You didn't think she got skinny by dieting now did you?
And where do you think her hate is coming from?

The Republican party isn't doing anything now that they weren't doing before. Why is Powell only now complaining about it? Could it be that he was happy when he could gain from their hold on power, and now that they're on the outs he's abandoning them? NO WAY!

I'd be an admirer of Powell if he'd stayed retired after he hung up his uniform. Once he became a Republican politician, he showed himself to be just another partisan hack.

you oughta read some of the comments in that link. the dittoheads turned out in their multitudes, to shout down all the monsters and demons in their own heads. these are the voices that will doom the GOP for a generation.

"There are no equivalent heroes on the left to compare to a Rush Limbaugh, an Ann Coulter, or the overall tone of conservative talk radio and FOX News."

You're absolutely correct, but you've left out Michelle Malkin, who has gone on an aggressive attack against the gay community. So far, every day this week she has taken cheap and hateful pot-shots at gays. As I wrote today, the word “homosexual” appears in 45 of her blog posts, and the word “gay” appears in well over 150 of her blog posts. I think it's time we took an active look at her bigotry, and stop letting her get away with it.
  • tbhull · 1 year ago
Fuck the whale that is Rush Limbaugh.

Now to the failed auto bailout. I think the play is that some of the previously approved $700,000,000,000 bailout funds will be used for the auto industry. The twist is Congress will have to approve the second $350,000,000,000 traunch for Treasury to use a portion for the auto industry.

As long as there's bigots in America Rush and Coulter will always thrive. It's time to stop blaming the airbags and start turning our attention to Americans that listen to those idiots. America provides them an audience. I blame white people that tune in, they make those people who they are.
  • Laura_in_CC · 1 year ago
    That's a good point.
  • Mike_in_the_Tundra · 1 year ago
The hate, hate, hate message has worked very well for the Repugs. I'm really not convinced that it won't work again. This election was the perfect storm for the Democrats. Bush, the economy, McCain, and Palin almost seemed like they were working for the Democrats. Let's just wait for things to calm down and see what happens. I certainly hope it's over for the hate.
  • RitornaVincitor · 1 year ago
Wait a minute. Does this mean the GOP has to give up gay bashing? But it still works!
  • vkobaya · 1 year ago
If only it were only gay bashing. They bash gays, but also immigrants, Muslims, Blacks, women, the educated, school teachers, unions, uncles, aunts, mothers and fathers, the sick, elderly, even children. Don't forget that filthy attack on autistic children several months ago. Anyone who does that on the public airwaves which really belongs to us, should have been banned for life. Free speech be damned, the public airwaves belong to the people and he deliberately violated his trust not misuse it. I wish it were as cut and dried with Limbaugh, Hannity and O'Reilly, as much as I think they are evil, even racism is not as easily universally condemned and grounds for banning from the airwaves or even polite society, though it once was.

Also want to say, Obama's election was not a sign of the end o racism, it was a fluke. My guess is that many who voted for him did so pinching their noses. May be another 100 years before we elect another African-American as our president. I hope not, though also not saying or implying that there is anything inherently superior about Blacks any more than there is anything inherently inferior about them. They are simply another people as we are all people ... well, almost, Bush, Cheney, Rummy, Gonzales, Rice and that crowd are planaria, flat worms and a disgrace even to flat worms.
  • RitornaVincitor · 1 year ago
So let me get this straight. The GOP isn't really for anything. It's all about what they are against. Yeah, that sounds about right to me.
  • NMRon · 1 year ago
Repug educated Americans are still as stupid and uncritical as ever. As long as they can keep the people stupid, Repuke hate will always work.
  • scytherius · 1 year ago
God I hope they don't take his advice. May they PLEASE keep doing what they are doing. I want em extinct.
  • Older_Wiser · 1 year ago
Sad about Colin Powell, that it's taken him so long to understand this.

The rightwing fanatics are the same ones who approved of slavery and every other oppression--against women, against differences in sexuality, even against people they really hate who side with them and are willing to lose their self-respect, freedom and dignity in the process. "Otherness" must be accepted and embraced if the human race is to survive.

Only when you can accept the humanity of everyone as being worthy of care and dignity can you even be considered as a full human being yourself, no matter who you are, your background, your position in life, your wealth or any other measure, including religion and poltical ideology. Accepting and embracing bigotry of any kind is the true root of all evil and must be fought at every level.
  • FunMe · 1 year ago
The GOP are filthy scum of the earth that have no place in a civilized society. They needed to be ostracized as soon as Obama becomes US President.

Truly, the CONservatives will be the personas non grata of this new century.

Bush to deliver commencement address at Texas A&M
By DARLENE SUPERVILLE (Associated Press Writer)
    From Associated Press
    December 12, 2008 3:06 AM EST

WASHINGTON - President George W. Bush is delivering the final commencement speech of his presidency at Texas A&M University.

Sheeze! Most kindergartens would be embarrassed to invite Bush to speak before them. What is a Texas A&M degree worth, 10 cents, 2 cents? Pathetic!
  • AggieCowboy · 1 year ago
Please tell me that's a typo and it's actually GHWB (who's library is at TAMU) who's giving the commencement speech.

My alma mater is going down the tubes since I graduated. :(
  • Jack01 · 1 year ago
I will be fun to hear how Limbaugh steps right into the trap and attacks Powell with the usual vile bile.
  • alephnaughtpix · 1 year ago
If you look at the comments to that article, hundred up hundreds of Republican have already taken up the challenge of "proving" Powell "wrong" in their heads whilst proving him right in reality.
  • gathedust · 1 year ago
What has Michael Moore ever said or written that remotely justifies the comparison? The closest the so-called left has to the wingernut echo chamber are bloggers - and that's only because they use the word fuck. Often in a complete sentence, so that doesn't count either.

No, bigotry and ignorance are pretty much owned by wingernutdom.
  • Professor_Farnsworth · 1 year ago
I agree. though, I am not too happy with some of the extreme commenters "Oh, they should be thrown out of the country, blah blah blah." they are referring to all republicans. I think that's extreme and kinda crazy.
  • NMRon · 1 year ago
Absolutely! Why IS Moore brught in as the left's version of Limpaugh (or Hannity or Savage or O'liely or Coulter etc. etc.)? We don't share long walks or anything, but his interviews are awfully mild, his comments are accurate and his art is right on point.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
Powell could and should have said this FORTY years ago; but no, this good and faithful House Negro served his abusive masters well. Now that he's seeing the white light, he seeks redemption and forgiveness.

"There are no equivalent heroes on the left to compare to a Rush Limbaugh, an Ann Coulter, or the overall tone of conservative talk radio and FOX News".

How about Mike Malloy? I think he's great and quite the anti-Limbaugh.
  • Susan Tomlinson · 1 year ago
As far as an intelligent voice on the left: what about Rachel Maddow? She's on MSNBC in prime time five nights a week. Still on Air America, too, for those into radio or listening in over the internet. She is brilliant and left as you can be. She looks at the issues in the frame of class on a regular basis. She has a doctorate from Oxford, is witty and entertaining, and - BONUS - is an out and proud lesbian. What more can you want? If that is TOO much for you, then watch Keith Olberman for liberal laughs on the same network.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Speaking of Michael Moore. Try this out sometime. Ask your favorite wingnut what Michael Moore has said that has been proven to be false over time. You will get CRICKETS every time. They rant and rave every time he says something, BUT eventually what Michael Moore says is proven true. It takes time for it to come to pass, but he speaks truth to power. Every time Michael Moore says something he gets LAMBASTED from the right, but months later... it is proven absolutely 100% true. Now, the opposite can be said about the wingnuts like Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter. They spew a bunch of vile claptrap, and its all a bunch of CRAP that is immediately believed by Republicans and the right wing media noise machine but proven FALSE over any period of time.

If 4 million people are going to be there, there ain't no plan. Period. Exclamation point. In those kinds of numbers, any emergency other than a localized act or a focused assissination attempt, panic will rule the crowds.
  • LeftoverBeefcake · 1 year ago
Lately I've been listening to Joe Lyles... he does a good job of cutting through Rush's baloney with his "Limbaugh Lie of the Day"
