Foreclosure coming soon to a mall near you.

I saw this day coming as soon as I saw the ads for seminars titled "Make Your Fortune in Commercial Real Estate - Zero Money Down."

For that matter, economists need a report on the number of ads in residential neighborhoods offering foreclosure assistance - that, and changes in the average commute time are a far better indicator of the current economic state at the consumer level than the stock market. (The less time it takes to get to work, the fewer people are working).

What isn't being discussed is that many of these commercial real estate loans were equal to 120% of the property's value. You know, I've always wanted my own skyscraper. . .

Free leaping privileges to bona fide CEOs and certified financial brokers of all types?

I'm picturing the modern day corporate executives being forced to walk the plank in Monty Python's 'Crimson Permanent Assurance' bit from The Meaning of Life.

Free hint: the ProShares ETF "SRS" is double-short commercial real estate. Volatile but good for a short-term trade.

    standard disclaimer applies.

Are you saying that corporations got in over their heads by their own free will? Shocking.

There are 3 or 4 strip malls within a 5 mile area here that cannot find tenants--3 of them were built within the last year. When my small regional bank was sold to a larger one last June, they had financed quite a few projects here (they always put up those signs "financed by ___"). I closed my account forever and still don't bank.

Why even the gated McMansion communities 2 miles down the road from us have pretty much ceased building those luxurious homes, just finishing up what they started 6 months ago...they can't even attract the bankers from Charlotte now. : )

Oh, and Wachovia continues building its high rise headquarters in Charlotte, over 51 stories so far...

i was just on the 10 freeway in los angeles and saw about 4 or 5 blank billboards. it is not a good sign when ad space is vacant, but then again, it may be because the signs were being swapped out. the scared of the dark kid in me says the former.
