Hooray for the fair decision. I am TOTALLY for any kind of fair decision supporting our LGBT community, but I also think all the courts need to just STOP with ANY controversial decisions between now and the election. These decisions and wedge issue ballot issues don't help fair minded Democrats. It stirs up the idiot wingnut vote. Here in Oklahoma, last time we had our general election our Democratic led legislature was STUPID ENOUGH to add a gay marriage question to the ballot. Democrats thought if they conceded and did that they would somehow save their sits. Of course, the opposite happened. Taligangelicals arrived by the bus load and voted against gay marriage then voted out the Democrats who put it on the ballot because in their minds, Democrats = "homosexical agenda supporters"

Courts don't always have control over the timing of their rulings. That was the case here in California. The Supreme Court HAD to make their ruling before the end of their term; and they waited right up until the end.

Hateful, and fascist Republicans on the sidewalk to nowhere:
The end of the YouTube video is great in that it shows the FACE of America. Obama supporters: different races, hopeful, progressive fighters for America!
I especially though the guy screaming "commie faggots!" was typical of Republican terrorists.
I'm a native New Yorker (married hetero female), PROUD Connecticut resident today!

OT but a shocker from the son of Wm F Buckley Jr.
Sorry, Dad, I'm Voting for Obama by Christopher Buckley
"Obama has in him—I think, despite his sometimes airy-fairy “We are the people we have been waiting for” silly rhetoric—the potential to be a good, perhaps even great leader. He is, it seems clear enough, what the historical moment seems to be calling for.
So, I wish him all the best. We are all in this together. Necessity is the mother of bipartisanship. And so, for the first time in my life, I’ll be pulling the Democratic lever in November. As the saying goes, God save the United States of America."
Now, if we can just get Vermont to do the same, I think that'll be the tipping point for the rest of New England to join the 21st Century. Rhode Island already recognizes same sex marriages from Massachusetts and California, and, I believe, same sex marriages from other countries as well.
Now, if Connecticut will throw Lieberman out of office, I can finally be proud of the state of my birth again!

Hard to believe we have a Repug governor but he is the obstruction. The Dem and Progressive candidates are for full recognition. It is just a matter of time....

I'm just going to enjoy this for a while--before the haters start throwing out their "legislating from the bench" nonsense--totally forgetting that the courts were instituted to protect minorities from the tyranny of the majority.
For now, though, just a little bask in the common sense of equality.

Fantastic! I'm so sick of this ludicrous imposition/argument/assertion against gay marriage.
I would love it if the approach would change, somewhat, however. It would be nice if the meme adjusted somewhat to the following line of questioning: How is it alright for those who wish to rigidly define marriage to impose their will upon religions (or specific churches within religions) who WANT to marry same-sex members of their congregation?
Separation of Church and State, anyone? Defining marriage in such a draconian manner, as opposed to defining it as a specific line of legal protections two or more individuals willingly join together in, is imposing a specific religious view upon the masses. Adding the non-religious opens it all up even further. Gay marriage, consensual polygamy, communal marriage, all of it should be completely, 100% legal, and noone has the right to impose their specific religious views upon people who wish to join together in such a manner. It quite pisses me off every time I hear the, "The Bible defines marriage as..." line of reasoning.

At least in the post-collapse wasteland after the final throes of the financial apocalypse we're currently in, there will be no laws against gay marriage. Or any laws really. But congratulations, try and get married before the DOW hits 0, government is dissolved, and anarchy reigns.
Just out of curiosity, does anyone know how close to reality the Governor is? What do the polls show about CT resident opinions about same-sex marriage? Not that it matters for this decision, but if (for example) a majority of CT residents still opposed marriage equality, there could conceivably be a constitutional amendment attempt in the future to fight this. So I'm wondering - is this really over?

As long as troglodytes continue to be elected, the fight is never over.

Great news, and by the time the next election season rolls around, people in Connecticut will be so used to it, that an amendment probably won't even make the ballot.
