McCain is the biggest Flip - Flop ever. He is going to dump all of his conservative friends as soon as possible to gain moderate friends. Then once he feels he has the new moderate friends in hand Mccain will go back to his consevative friends and act like he never left. He is a snake. Do not trust McCain.

Crist will be seen as too much of a hedonist. I mean, look at that tan!! Even in FL!! McBush is pasty white, you know...wouldn't be prudent to have Crist standing right beside him for the next 5 months and thereafter. : )

I guess some of the GOP "base" has googled "Jay Wetherington Charlie Crist" and haven't liked what they've seen. I wouldn't ever myself encourage anyone to invade Governor Crist's privacy by googling "Jay Wetherington Charlie Crist." I repeat: don't google "Jay Wetherington Charlie Crist." It would be a terrible thing to do...

All right, that will be enough gay bashing on this site. I'm fed up. Christ is a good govenor. At least he beats a Bush!

    Peace!

I don't like this. If Crist becomes the VP nominee, I think we might find a lot of values voters voting Republican. On the other hand, it's good for the country to have the Republican party less radical. I don't think elections should be a choice of whether to discriminate against people. It's just that if people don't have to make that choice, I'm afraid that they'll choose wrong on the more difficult choice of effective government...

EDIT: by "values voters" I mean voters with good values, not the morally bankrupt right-wingers. Good values like equality (including of marriage), freedom, etc.
  • zavlin · 1 year ago
that may be true, but also have to consider while gaining these "value voters" it could create a large divide with "right wing nut" voters. And as far as the right goes, i think theres more of the later around than the former.

And really, mccain is probably on his way to alienating the religious right anyway, somthing like this could just really facilitate it.

Author and war reporter Matthew Sanchez may have a point when he asks, why is the gay community always the first to attack its own? If Charlie Crist is indeed a homosexual, should we really be mocking him for his own private lifestyle choice? Obama is all about leaving the politics of personal destruction behind.

The time is long since past when we should be tolerating closeted politicians. The history of closeted politicians has been, on the whole, bad for glbt. Sen. McCarthy, Roy Cohn, etc., not to mention all those Log Cabin boys aiding and abetting virulent homophobes in the House and the Senate.
  • zavlin · 1 year ago
RIght, the problem isnt that hes gay, its that hes likely closetted and playing for the team that treats homosexuality like a disease
That said, mccain will not pick him as vp. Though it would be too good if he did.

Wonder if Crist had anything to do with covering up the murder of a gay Rethug operative and 2 others in Orlando Aug 2007 in which Patrick McHenry's name was also linked?

Although reported quite a bit last August, has anyone heard anything of note lately about the 3 murders? Was it really a murder-suicide or was it someone just getting rid of inconvenient people?

I first read it as "christ" and thought ...."well...yeah, they never really have followed his teachings or example"

Everyone here in FL knows that Crist is gay. I'm gay myself, so I have no problem with Charlie being gay, but a lot of the social conservatives here in the state are clearly troubled by the fact that he is a "bachelor." (The wingnuts never come out and say their troubled by Crist's sexual orientation, they just talk about their concerns that he's "single with no children." I was a bit put off by Crist's embrace of right-wing "family values" talking points to get elected gov., although he's clearly backed off that talk now that he's in the office.

I just moved from St. Petersburg after having lived there several years and am gay myself. Charlies not gay. He is actually a really nice guy and quite liberal.

To John Aravosis -- Since you are a gay man yourself I am disappointed in your "wink, wink" link to sites that talk of rumors about Governor Crist.

I don't know if he is gay -- and don't care -- but if he is gay he's not like other closeted gay Republicans who attack gays and fight gay rights. He supports civil unions.
