AMERICAblog: Could Hillary and Bill even survive the Vice Presidential vetting process?

  • Dave of the Jungle · 1 year ago
I find it nearly inconceivable that Obama would seriously consider Hillary, at this point.
  • Jim Olson · 1 year ago
    Um, no?
  • sittenpretty · 1 year ago
    Jim you took my response
  • Jim Olson · 1 year ago
    Sorry...
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    Good idea.

Obama's people should start vetting Bonnie and Clyde.

That will be the end of them.
  • burro · 1 year ago
Letting them in would be like saying OK to Barnum and Bailey that they could move their entire circus into your two bedroom apartment. The prospect of insanity and total breakdown of anything resembling order should be obvious just by looking out the front door at what was about to come in. Slam it. Bolt it. Brace it. Nail it. Screw it. Do not let them in. Darkness, destruction and degradation will be the result.

    Just say no.
  • Liza · 1 year ago
That's probably why they are pissed. I bet Obama said that they would have to go through the vetting process and if they didn't pass, no VP slot. Oh well.
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
That may be why Hillary has suddenly exploded.
  • burro · 1 year ago
    And it'll smell bad too.
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
Brilliant. They can take their time vetting and tell her she has failed the night before the convention begins.
  • interlude · 1 year ago
if she is VP, so is hubby Billy Jeff, and together the Clinton Tag Team will no doubt work to undermine an Obama presidency.

Hillary Clinton has had staff people play the race card at least 5 times, has decided she doesn't like the rules she helped design, and has compared Obama to McCain while praising McCain as the better candidate, in addition has won 3 primaries with the help of Rush Limbaugh, her campaign has been so vicious against him, with robocalls, caucus disruptions, and constant reference to his color and his supposed religion, i just cant see him choosing her.
  • Dave of the Jungle · 1 year ago
Obama has been an exemplar of good judgment and fair play. His patience and graciousness with Hillary have been astounding. However, he's smart enough to know better than to pollute his bid for the presidency in the fall with any more of this Hillary shit.
  • bumpkis · 1 year ago
Clinton to Obama would be like Lieberman to McCain....unhealthy, so to speak.
  • kingmans_performance · 1 year ago
oh, Obama's been vetted, but eight years in public office didn't do the Clinton's vetting? give me a break.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    OK.

Let's start with contributors to Bubba's library.

    Where is it?
  • interlude · 1 year ago
Yeah Kingman, those 8 years did the vetting. compared to the past 8 years, they look much better than we thought of them at the time...
Obama does not need the Clinton Circus, the Clinton Soap Opera, and 2 VPS at his throat.
  • kingmans_performance · 1 year ago
i am merely pointing out that someone who ran the country for eight years has spent just *slightly* more time in the spotlight than a senator who has merely won the nom. is that unreasonable?
  • lilybart · 1 year ago
You have a point, although I think Bill has been ignored since he is now technically a private citizen. But vetting for the General election will be a problem for him. He has not changed. Hubby works in NYC media and we are pretty connected politically and the info out there is not pretty.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
Actually, what they should do, is start the vetting process on their own.

Get all the materials they can from open sources and interviews with former associates.

Drop it on the table in front of them and say "You don't really want us to go through all of this stuff with you, do you?"

    They'll get the picture.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
Or, heck, it might scare them off if Obama's people just put together a list of 100 questions and told the Clintons they'll want full and complete answers.
  • themanofthecrowd · 1 year ago
Strategically speaking, I think just asking her to come to his house in Illinois to talk about it would be enough. Leak it to the media. Word gets around that she may be throwing in the towel in exchange for a VP slot, the presses start rolling, her donations all dry up. Have her over a few more times to keep the fire stoked. Then he could politely state that he had considered her, but decided to go in a different direction. She can't say no to a conversation, but she also can't run for President while she's having that conversation.
  • jr · 1 year ago
even the skeletons in their closets have skeletons in their closets
  • vwcat · 1 year ago
When the pundits begin waxing about their fantasy ticket I always post about Bill's business dealings during the past 8 years and all those skeletons.
It is the first thing that I think about and that is why I know they cannot be on anyone's ticket.
The Clintons may think because of the white house years they won't be vetted and be able to wave it off but, we all know Obama is a very detailed man.
And he has very good people working for him.
Given that and the fact that I doubt Obama even wants to deal with the Clintons (remember, they are trying to hold onto the control of the party and Obama is in control now pretty much), there is just no way!
  • devis1 · 1 year ago

The Clintons wouldn't sit for any interview. They just want to remain as close to power as they possibly can, because their real intention is to fracture the democratic party by starting their own 'Clinton' wing. I question all their obvious intentions.
  • Bubbles · 1 year ago
I really don't like her as a V.P. candidate - but she would be great security. Like Cheney is for Bush. No one would assassinate Bush so that Cheney could become President. Same with Hillary - no one would assassinate Obama so that Hillary would become President, except, of course, Hillary.
  • proseandcon · 1 year ago
All it would take is a whiff of an infidelity or two on Bill's part while he jetted around with Ron Burkle or Steve Bing and Hillary's loyal support among women would take a hit. To stand by your man once is one thing...
  • Milli · 1 year ago
He should under no circumstances pick her. First, Bill is all gooey in love with the senior Bush clan - I don't know what the hell is up with that. Second, both he and Hillary would be pounding on the doors to the Oval Office every morning to get in and work on their own right-wing agenda. They will try to undercut his authority. They aren't Dems anymore.

obama has waged a pretty brilliant campaign so far. no reason to think he's going to chuck it out the window now. IF he decides to offer it to her, i'll trust his judgment - but i don't expect it. far too much baggage.
  • slappymagoo · 1 year ago
I'd argue that Obama's campaign has been filled with drama. Just not self-created drama. Much like EMS workers are surrounded by drama not of their making, the Obama campaign has drama thrust upon them by lies thrust upon them by Hillary's campaign and the GOP, not to mention other li'l nuggets of joy like both Clinton's saying McCain has the experience necessary to be CiC, but not Obama, etc.

Sad thing is, for people predisposed to not like Democrats or black people (or neither), it doesn't matter that Obama had nothing to do with any of this, it'll be spun around the Beltway Boys as Bad News for Obama anyway. It's how those doo schnozzles roll.

Oh, wait. He's black. Silly me. Only the white candidates get that courtesy and respect.

Don't do it, Barack! You can win without her.
  • davespicer · 1 year ago
Terrible idea. Barack has a lot of hard work to do (and to inspire us to do), and having his administration turned into some kind of tabloid reality show would cripple that process.

We cannot afford that kind of distraction and media circus.

As Obama lands in St. Paul tonight to announce his securing of the majority of the party's delegates, he is already extending an olive branch.

Doug Grow reports that Obama invited three of Minnesota's three Clinton superdelegates to the event at the Xcel Energy Center: Walter Mondale, Rick Stafford and Jackie Stevenson. Only Stafford accepted.

How can Hiilary be his VP when she has pretty much endorsed McCain as Commander in Chief over Obama.

Hillary will try to grab more power than Cheney had and every time Obama reminds her that she is the VP she will cry foul and say its because she is a woman. There is no way that Hillary and Bill will take a back seat to Obama, it would be the worst President and Vice President relationship in our history.
  • TammyBuschart · 1 year ago
"How can Hiilary be his VP when she has pretty much endorsed McCain as Commander in Chief over Obama."

It's actually much worse than that. Some people say that she's cut a backroom deal to be McCain's running mate. The Clintons are the worst type of corrupt slime.
  • LeslieB · 1 year ago
I doubt McMore would want her on his ticket. He's running on four more years of Bush, not Clinton.
  • Coming Undone · 1 year ago
The Clinton's are corrupt and it will come out and we will all be right back in the 90's.
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
Obama would probably be wise to put her on the VP list, meanwhile he could vet both Hill and Bill and gauge voter opinion about potential running mates...
  • lucky hussein · 1 year ago

I don't think Hillary should ever be anywhere near the Vice President's office.

    She is too poisonous.
  • TammyBuschart · 1 year ago
I've had it with the Clintons and their supporters. This is beyond disgusting.

John: "Obama probably should put Hillary on his list for potential running mates. Then, let the vetting begin -- and the vetting is INTENSE."

Bill and Hillary Clinton have been involved in an endless number of scandals. She would NEVER come out clean in the vetting. The media has given her and Bill a decade long honeymoon and there is MOUNTAIN of dirt on them that would come out. Drudge recently ran a huge story that Bill is still cheating on Hillary and that is only one story. Bottom line - the Clintons are dirty as hell.

  • lynchie · 1 year ago
Well we all heard Bill's reaction to the article in Vanity Fair, an article he refused to be interviewed for. It would take about 12 seconds for the Rovians to jump on that pile of tinder and the house would be burnt to the ground. I don't respect Bill for using his office to exploit Monica, don't tell me she is guilty too. He used his Star power to get a bunch of Hummers. He hasn't changed, they never do. It would take no time for them to trot out his old lovelies to relive the 90's. While that soap opera goes on the Right loses it's lack of trust for McCain and rebuilds its absolute hatred for the Clinton's.
In addition this is about change, with the Clintons you get ickes, Panetta, and all the same tired old bag men. Hillary is Washington and status quo and having her take a secondary role does not seem possible to me. Lastly how do you control Bill's mouth. He may promise to shut the fuck up and be Mr. Mom, but that would last about a minute and he would be waving his finger and passing judgement on someone or something. I say John Edwards, ethical, honest and would we would be well served in 8 years to have him in a position to continue the Obama legacy.
  • Jamicka · 1 year ago
"I don't respect Bill for using his office to exploit Monica"

She was a very young, and impressionable intern taken advantage of by a much older and powerful man. And who really thinks she was the only one? The behavior of both Clintons made a mockery of the Democratic Party for over a decade. We can't afford to let such immoral and sleazy politicans represent us in government. They are simply dispicable opportunists with failed policies and an unquenchable lust for sexual conquests.
  • jcgraham77 · 1 year ago
and I thought the right wingers were the pious moralists! You would sound right at home with Dr. Dobson.
  • lynchie · 1 year ago
jc; first off I am not pious nor a moralist. The exploitation of women by men in power has been going on for many, many years. That still does not make it right. Having morals means respecting others. I question Bill's ethics and his morals. He used his office and then denied that he engaged in any sexual relations with Monica. As I said above she bears some burden of responsibility but we have all seen how glib and convincing he can be. We have had enough of the lies, cheating and games under Bush. To put Bill back in a position of power with no one controlling him not only demeans the office of President but suddenly the GOP will have ammunition a plenty to question the whole moral fabric of Democrats. i don't personally care what two consenting adults get up to but the hypocrisy with which he mentally separated boning Monica and then denying love between same sex couples does not reflect well on him. You my friend have serious problems if you don't see the difference in using his office to get personal gratification and throwing her aside like a used condom.
  • jcgraham77 · 1 year ago
If it were all that black and white what a wonderful world we would live in. You can have it one of two ways--either women are ignorant and evil men take advantage of them cause they don't know what they are doing, or there were two consenting adults who knew what they were doing and what the outcome would be--including her...she didn't get there based on her ignorance. I like how you pulled what aspects of the whole debacle fit your argument and then top it off with gay marriage--I didn't see that comming!
  • lynchie · 1 year ago
You suddenly dismiss the concept of age and experience. Following your twisted logic a 10 year old female should be as worldly as a 35 year old. Never forget Monica wa 19 or 20 and certainly not worldly in the ways of Predators which is what Bill was and still is.
  • jcgraham77 · 1 year ago
Unless part of her brain was missing I am certain she knew the difference between right and wrong. When they were doing their thing I am sure they both knew it wasn't appropriate. Its not worldy in play here, it is right and wrong and unless you are a sociopath or a 10 year old you know better. He was wrong. She was wrong. Enough with hippie excuses.

I find the calls for "unity" from the Hillary camp to be pretty hypocritical. She was the one who conducted one of the most dirty and racist campaigns against Obama: from photo shopping his skin color and nose size to making veiled threats against him. She openly courted racist groups and basically portrayed Obama as the n-word. That's not even counting all the blatant lies she told on the campaign trail.

Now she and her insane supporters expect us to embrace them because we have "common values". HELLO? Personally, I don't endorse bigotry, racism, corruption, dishonestly, perjury, adultery, and every other sick behavior of Billary. And yet we are supposed to welcome her into our hearts?
  • foolme1ns · 1 year ago
Hillary Clinton should not be Obama's VP. Everything for the next 4 years would be about Bill Clinton, and I think it would seriously hurt the chances of Obama getting a second term. America doesn't need anymore of the trials and tribulations of the Clintons. A mix of the Bickerson's and Animal House. The Clinton's time, like the Bush's time has passed.

It's gotta be all Clinton all the time.
She can't even let Obama have his day without inserting herself into the headline.
How can he be the candidate for change if she is in the White House? Bill would undermine Obama at any opportunity.
The RNC would drool at the thought of taking on the Clintons. She needs to support Obama, and forget about herself for once.

It wouldn't surprise me if Shillary is cutting a behind-the-scenes deal to be McCain's running mate. She campaigned with him against Obama, so she figures it would be a perfect fit. Talk about shameless. This *$%@ never ceased to amaze at how low she will go.
  • RalphWorld · 1 year ago
It's a bad idea. Bill and Hillary Clinton are almost universally despised in the Democratic Party for their despicable conduct during this campaign season. People are seeing the disastrous Clinton years in a new light and finally realizing how damaging Slick Willie's antics were to our country. To let his surrogate, Shillary, enter once again into the White House would be insane and bring tremendous disrespect to the office. Hillary has greatly offended the African-American community with her charged racist statements and they could never support such a vile candidate. BILLARY SHOULD NOT BE VP.
  • Ben Dover · 1 year ago
No way should Sen. Obama select Hillary as his VP choice! Hillary brings too much negative baggage. And, WHO WILL BE PUT IN CHARGE OF KEEPING BILL FROM BEING AN "ISSUE"?
No, the Clinton's would be constantly in the news with their drama and constantly undermine Obama's administration.
Keep Hillary where she belongs, safely tucked away somewhere in the Senate.

Obama '08! Now more than ever!
  • Viceroy · 1 year ago
Objectively? No! But done by a party dominated by extreme leftist who don't care if their candiates are sexual predators or liars or oath-breakers or multi-millionaire exploiters, sure. Why not? It happened in 1992 and 1996. All of which is why, contrary to the wishful thinking of most here, Hillary and Bill are probably more popular among the rank and file than Obama.

That said, it would make Obama's chances of defeat even higher than they are now if he should agree to take Hillary on. The nearest historical appoximation would be when Reagan negotiated with Gerald Ford in 1980 to be the vp candidate, which also would have been a disaster. Besides, why should Hillary run for vp, when she is certain to have the nomination in 2012 after Obama loses?
  • terryfree · 1 year ago
"contrary to the wishful thinking of most here, Hillary and Bill are probably more popular among the rank and file than Obama."

I think that is totally off base. In the last 8 years people have finally seen the disastrous Clinton years in a clearer perspective. The vast majority of Dems never want again to live through daily scandals and corruption hearings. The Clintons set a new standard for political dirty tricks and underhanded sleazy politics. Hillary should NEVER be a part of an Obama administration if not just for her personal threats against him (the JFK comments).
  • Dequain · 1 year ago
If Barack were to choose Hillary as VP, he would lose almost all African-American support. After their outrageous behavior, Bill and Hillary are seen as vile bigots by most African-Americans. They would not stand for someone as putrid as dishonest as Hillary in the VP slot. It's not easy to forget that she used every dirty racist tactic in her political slime attacks.
  • jcgraham77 · 1 year ago
I think that is stretching it quite a bit...he has the loyalty of the black voters--they aren't going anywhere regardless....
if you think she used every racist tactic you should come live in the south. I can't imagine what utopia you live in.

Look for all that has happened, and I see it as Obama's BEST & SUREST way of getting the White House. She needs to be his VP nominee, no other candidate for VP can bring the voting block she can.

As far as the Clinton years being disaterous. I'd vote for him again if he could manage the economy as he did before. Gas was less than 1.00 a gallon throughout most of his term, and I could afford food and clothes. It's time for the party to unite under Obama and if he chooses Hillary then I say bravo.
