AMERICAblog: Cuomo going after Madoff-connected financier

  • okojo · 10 months ago
Merkin, in many ways is a much bigger catch than Madoff. Merkin was much more powerful than Madoff. Merkin can also put up a much stronger fight than Madoff if Merkin gets indicted. The way to get to Merkin is to get at his associates, one of them has done time in Federal Prison for insider trading, (who ironically told Merkin not to use Madoff)....

I think it is easier to go after Stanley Chais, perhaps even Walter Noel than it is to go after Merkin.

Merkin will be financially ruined from all the lawsuits he will deal with, but I do think he can put up a pretty good fight, and have the best of the best criminal defense attorneys when he is charged with fraud.

Is this the Merkin Concert Hall on the Upper West Side of Manahattan Merkin??
  • okojo · 10 months ago
I believe the Hall is named after his father, Hermann Merkin, who was a very powerful financier. His father help found the 5th Avenue Synagogue, and also a big influence on Modern Orthodoxy.

As I stated, Merkin in many ways a is much bigger fish to catch than Madoff. Madoff was doomed, and he knew it, and he is taking the fall for the sake of his family and associates. However, Merkin would be a big battle for the Feds to take a case to trial and conviction...

i think why Washington hasn't done this, because they are moving much more slowly and methodically. Merkin has to pay back all the money he has made from his fund under Madoff's control, which isn't going to be easy, compounded with the numerous lawsuits he is going to face.

I think some signs how the SEC and the DOJ moves with Merkin, Noel, Chais and other are how the SEC and the DOJ subpoena which documents from Merkin's business, and how far back in years in records they want from Merkin. Merkin has to payback all his fees and management costs he allegedly made from Madoff, that is a given.

This is a really good article, that shows that Merkin is in very big trouble. The WSJ article basically lays out a fraud case, because Merkin is lying left and right...

What's a few billion among friends? Great article!

Anyway way you slice it Madoff's operation was well planned and with the intention of making himself and his family (future generations included!) wealthy. He knew that eventually he'd be caught so the more money in his piggy bank would only give him more notoriety for being the biggest fraudster that's ever lived.

Forget about individuals knowing about the alleged fraud, where was the SEC this whole time?

    Best regards,

Where was the SEC? The SEC didn't have the sophistication, or they didn't want a drawn out fight with Madoff if they decided to do a formal investigation. My guess is that the SEC investigators were more concerned with Madoff was abiding by Securities Law, than whether his business strategy was incredibly dubious.

Madoff and his firm knew enough about the SEC and how it operated, so it stated that it way underestimated its advisory clients, and the amount of money it was handling, so it kept below the SEC radar or trigger a formal investigation, which would had blown the cover off pretty easily.

Madoff would had kept it going if Fairfield Sentry and other hedge funds didn't pull out when the markets tanked in September and October of 2008.

The group that is heavily tied to the scam are the accountants in Madoff's life, from his father-in-law to a couple other who pop up in odd places..

Sorry I forgot to add this...

    (TheyMadoffWithYourMoney.com)

Words can't describe what Bernie Madoff has done to peoples lives. Simply put, he's ruined people and their companies that trusted him. Creating this website is the least I can do to expose fraud in the market place and hopefully make the public more aware.

    Kind regards,

Did you know the word "merkin" is related to the word "malkin?"
  • tomtallis · 10 months ago
I seem to have heard that. The difference is that the hair is over the mouth in a malkin.
