AMERICAblog: Customer demands increase as airlines ask for more money

In the last month I have flown on 6 different flights - all international - and I have no complaints. It appears that the problem is with domestic flights. I wasn't charged for my checked bags (2 crossing the Atlantic, 1 for travel within Europe/Asia Minor), food and drinks were free, including beer and wine, and seats were comfortable. As I also fly a lot on the west coast without problems, it appears to me that people who live or travel to/from the mid-section of the country are bearing the brunt of these policies. Since they voted Bush into office 2 times, I don't really mind that they are being fleeced.

I'm traveling to NY in November then off to a place halfway around the world.
I'm scared to see what awaits me with the US airlines. Last time I travelled was Christmas before the $5 water. What is that? A $5 circuit party water beverage? geez, can I bring my own wawa?

Why can't they all be like Southwest? Instead, they've been playing 'follow the leader' in screwing customers every way possible. All it takes is one of the big airlines to charge customers for yet another service that was free just a year or two ago and they all fall in line soon after.
At the very least, if just one of them screwed us over with a smile and really made the effort to have the absolute best customer service, it wouldn't be AS horrible. Instead, none of them stand out from one another, they all treat the customers in the same manner and you end up feeling no more inclined to choose one evil airline over another.

My post appears to have been deleted - why?

Just read your question. I didn't delete your post but if you question a moderator removing your post, the best way to challenge it is to send a message to the "blog" and have the situation reviewed. Very rarely, there are posting glitches that occur and a post might seem to have been deleted, and it hasn't.
Otherwise, send a message to "americablog@starpower.net"
I just got here. I didn't delete it... (I didn't see it, either)

Airline flight attendant "surly attitude?" - CHECK! Try pressing your "service button" during a flight if you don't believe it. They should have a note on the button that reads "IF YOU DARE!" Result? You will get a pissed off attendant marching up the aisle to huff, "What do YOU want?!!?" Guess they don't pay them enough, but hey thats not the customer's fault, is it?

Chris - I don't dispute that their are serious issues with the state of the airline industry in America. However, there is NO AIRLINE that is charging $5 for water. Besides U S Airways, I am not aware of ANY airline charging for water at all. Some are complaining they have to pay for alcohol in economy on overseas flights. Too bad. When was the last time you entered a liquor store and received an airplane ride? Remember when you used to go out to eat and the meal price included salad, entree, starch, vegetable and possibly dessert? Do we have that now? NO. It's all a la carte. Get used to it - it's the way of the world. You think the international carriers are better? Fly them. Should the American carriers provide better service? Probably, however, that will come with a price. Economy passengers are essentially paying about the same they paid in the mid 1980s when adjusted for inflation. For those who actually think it is reasonable to expect good service and transportation from JFK to LAX for $199 round trip. Forget it - the gravy train is over.
