Daschle is a proponent of "universal" health care. Wrote: Critical: What We Can Do About the Health-Care Crisis (Hardcover)
by Tom Daschle (Author), Jeanne M. Lambrew (Narrator), Scott S. Greenberger (Narrator)

    Anyone read it yet?

Should be a good pick. How refreshing to have leaders who actually care about our society, people, science, etc. Rather than cronies whose basic function was always to block progress and serve their corporate master, regardless of what department they headed.

Why do I keep getting the feeling it's 1992?

(Except for the part, you know, where the country actually has a healthy economy and we're not bogged down in a long war.)

    Boy, those were the days.

He is also a big proponent of Stem Cell Research to help find cures for illnesses. Should be a good pick.

Good choice. Knows a lot about how to fix health care in the country.

I want Daschle to go after the Pharmas...stop the Medicare ripoff. We could save billions. They're probably already quaking in their corporate boots.

I like this pick a lot but am curious how his wife's lobbying activities for drug companies will play into this.

It's a bigger job than it sounds.

I guess he's going to spearhead universal health care.

Probably smart to have a guy used to dealing with Congress in the mix. That's where Hillary f'ed up.

I think Energy Secretary will be a bigger job than usual too, since energy independence is one of Obama's key initiatives.

Where are all the new faces we were promised with this "Change." Looks like the "same ole, same ole" to me.

I sure do hope that Howard Dean is not just cast aside by the Dems. He deserves better than that, and SECHHS would have been a good fit. That said, Daschle is a fine choice and a good man.

Dean can be the Surgeon General...that would be a rewarding post for him.

It is not just the number #1's that are important...but the #2's and #3's.
There is a clear pattern emerging. This is going to be leadership of progressive activists.
I will use the term progressive because this IS progress.
President-Elect Obama knows these people. He knows their potential if given
looser reins. (But reins never the less)
Just as Obama allowed us to be a part of his vision,; he is doing the same with others who will implement
    change.
    "This ain't no party.
    This ain't no disco.
    This ain't no fooling around."
