AMERICAblog: Defense expert on Hillary's nuke-Iran proposal: "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt."

That's another thing...this "umbrella"...where the hell have I been on this because last I checked "star wars" iodiotic plan to shoot a bullet with a bullet wasn't even able to pass it'¨s own rigged demo test.
I mean, I think finally they were able to hit one rocket, that had a planned trajectory, no cloaking or other devices to confuse, and all...they finally got one to hit one, once...rigged.
Last I heard we were NOWHERE near technologically capable of some "shield", "umbrella", "lean-to", "scarf" or any other clever aliiteration to some sort of cover. Keep in mind, this will keep Bush's buddies in yachts and champagne forever, since the missiles cost a lot less that attack, than the smart ones we have to build to defend, and EVEN if we had all the money and resources, it has to work flawlessly and from the very first and only time it needs to be used.
We're talking fantasy land, and yet Bush, Clinto, the whole dynasty is talking as if this is possible.

"Nuclear umbrella" is not a reference to missile defense. It is a reference to the security guarantee we offer to a very limited number of our allies --- NATO, Japan, S. Korea and Australia, and it means that we extend our nuclear deterrent to them. It means we would not rule out the use of nuclear weapons in their defense if they were attacked. Israel does not sit under the nuclear umbrella, and has never indicated any desire to do so. It has its own nuclear deterrent. But, as Jeffrey said (very well, I might add), we don't run around making nuclear threats. Not ruling something out is not the same thing as actively ruling something in. Its also been a really, really long time since we've phrased our nuclear policy in terms of "annihilation" or massive retaliation. We would threaten to use nuclear weapons to destroy critical military targets so that we could achieve our war aims, not to annihilate a society. The result may still be massive annihilation, but that's not the threat we issue. That kind of threat is essentially existential and goes unsaid, as Jeffrey said.
Senator Clinton really, really messed this up. If you think it sounds bad to the general public, think of how awful it sounds to the of us who know what the actual policy is and how we really do talk about it....

Hillary's just fission for credibility...And, Obama should thoughtfully call her on it.

"Rule number one is never, ever, ever threaten to use nuclear weapons against another country unless you plan to do so in the near future. "

Is early Alzheimer's setting in? She endorses a republican for president, she's hallucinating about being shot at, she's in denial that she can't win the nomination, and now she is threatening to annihilate a country that doesn't have nuclear weapons pointed at anyone right now? Why don't we also give hatchets to every kindergartner so they can settle any disputes in the playground sandbox?
I'm not entirely sure she is capable of coordinating her shoes with her pantsuits anymore..............
Hillary and John McCain's "bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran" tour!
Its so obvious our government is planning an Iran attack with Admiral Fallen leaving CentCom and being replaced by that political general Petraeus. That isn't the only reason I believe we are on the "bomb Iran" trajectory but I just Def Sec Gates on MSNBC and it reminded me...

Is Clinton really as smart as everyone thinks she is, or is she just putting on a show for the rightwing? I keep thinking about AJ's posts on bloggers and how many were raised or are now privileged, but can only put out crap.
Lots of poor, smart women could have gotten in Wellesley, too, if they'd had pull and/or means. And it really doesn't mean shit if you can't tie your own shoes. Being intelligent and honest is a lot more admirable than being clever and conniving...

I am no supporter of Hil, but surely she should see that it is of no help whatever to her own cause to be talking, and yes she did say it, like she is running to be Insane McCain's running mate. Neither of these crazies should be allowed anywhere near the controls. Hil needs to try and get her brain in gear before she engages her mouth.
That was something of a smackdown if you ask me -- even if a rather tactfully and carefully worded one. I agree with everything he said, especially with regard to the first rule of nuclear diplomacy. It's the same with firearms -- carrying a handgun if one is not truly willing and prepared to draw, shoot, hit, and kill the target not only makes the handgun a useless and meaningless deterrent but actually increases the risk of oneself being injured or killed.
Of course, even though it's clear that she was suffering from an acute case of Foot-In-Mouth-Disease at the time, it's not too hard to figure out what prompted Clinton to say this -- it's just another twist on the down-home, shot-and-a-beer persona which she's been experimenting with recently as part of her "anti-elitist" attacks on Obama.

She can't help it; she was born with a Goldwater pin on her chest. (Okay, bad pun)
Thank you for taking the time to do this homework. I've been sucked into too many conversations around the net concerning Clinton's latest bellicosity. Many Clinton supporters are defending her attitude with rationale like: "Well, we should nuke them...what's wrong with that?" These are people I've actually met in person and know that at one time they would have never let such an idea roll through their heads.
The correct answer should go something like: This is a horrible hypothetical to contemplate which is why my administration will end bush's cowboy diplomacy and work with the rest of the world to end nuclear proliferation. We are ready to show leadership in resolving this issue peacefully....yada...yada...yada...
I hope your friend understands that her comments are not a one time event. Clinton's foreign policy team includes some real hawks, the same people who advised her on the IWR and Kyl-Lieberman. Every time she threatens Iran or whomever, she only makes the hard-liners stronger. My guess would be that Clinton has never heard the expression: "talk softly and carry a big stick."

Do you want a President, like Obama, who has proven judgment and won't shoot off his mouth to CAUSE some kind of international incident?
OR do you want a President, like Clinton or McCain, who think the answer is to always THREATEN to BOMB countries?

She's not a fool, of course...
REALLY? I think that's open for debate at this juncture, because all she seems to do anymore is look foolish, vindictive, asinine and weak.
