Congressional dems will not pass anything without co-ownership and support from a large number of Congressional repubs, which support has yet to materialize.

If you're going to give a guy a free house and pay for it with the savings I've worked for all my life? Then, we've got a problem.... Just sayin......

Does it make it easier to give it to CEOs for all the "good" work they have done?

But the derivative paper swaps and the energy speculators are fine and dandy with you? I would rather my neighbor get a renegotiated mortgage loan than those guys bet subway fare, frankly.
At the very least, not having 50% of the houses in any community vacant as foreclosures will protect all other property values to some extent.
Saving hedge funds and brokers for worthless paper deals by paying over market prices to bail them out of their bad decisions?, not so much. They do not even know how to value these things, or who holds the mortgages. If they are that ruthless, they deserve nothing.

McCain has been away from the Capitol so long, his aides will have to help him find the bathroom is again.

Barney has dirty hands regarding deregulation, I don't trust his motives in this rush to hand the Bush WH another "territory of demand"

so McCain will swoop in and claim he did it like with the GI Bill?

That might be the photo op Bush has called for tomorrow morning...

Why does McCain think being near or around a disaster is a good photo-op opportunity? Two hurricanes, floods and now the financial crisis? I wonder if he also loves chasing ambulances?

BREAKING NEWS President George W. Bush crashes bomb-laden Air Force One into US Treasury. First responders still unable to asses damage or the condition of survivors.

We all know that this is just the plan that McCain would have come up with, and he would have, if only he hadn't been a POW.

It will be interesting to see what McCain's left eye problem is like at the big White House photo op tomorrow. He'll probably be placed so that only his right side is to the camera. That eye thing is really creepy.

One of the many problems with the Wall Street financial system are financial "products" called derivatives. They are basically bets by two people. One bets some artificial index like the London Interbank Offering Rate (LIBOR) will go in one direction, while the other person bets against it. No actual goods are produced. Its simply Casino finance.
so basically, there are a bunch of financial cons in the works, and banks are finally getting caught with the worthless paper... you know, if you were to do that on your own -- without being part of the "power brokers club" -- you'd be doing time in the gray bar hotel for fraud...

also sounds like a pretty good way to launder money...

As to the suggestion that McCain will take credit for the deal because he suspended his campaign and returned to "help" reach the breakthrough - - after the way both Letterman and Fergusen roasted him alive tonight, it may not be all that easy for him to to pretend he was in Washington.
So, I'm watching a little bit of "Morning Joe" Scarborough this morning, and Joe's bizarre point, after his co-host states that McCain is clearly playing politics with this move, is to say that even if McCain IS playing politics, anyone who criticizes is (wait for it) "WHINING" because it is in the best interest of the country. And can't the debate be held off until Monday?
He's got to be kidding. As Barney Frank said, they are already about to make the deal, and now McCain wants to swoop in and get all the laurels. The only WHINER is Scarborough and water-carriers like him who whine about people who state the obvious - THAT THIS IS PURE POLITICS.
