AMERICAblog: Democrats unsure what to do about Lieberman

Don't forget his 2006 do-over, when he took out a highly acceptable Ned Lamont.
That smarmy fuck has got to be out of the caucus. Let it be a warning to the Bush dogs.

Yeah, Joe can go to hell... this guy is trying to obscure and overtake Benedict Arnold's place in history.

OK, here's my insane never-gonna-happen plan for Lieberman.
There's gonna be some pressure on the moderate Republican senators like Specter and Snowe to jump ship. I think it might be hard to get them to defect all the way.
But, we let Lieberman set up his own little caucus of independent, unaffiliated Senators and encourage Snowe and Specter and that lot to join that instead.
Gradually, we pare down the Republican party until the hardcore crazies are what's left.

Even with him, we won't get 60. Without him we won't go below 50. And he votes with the GOP enough of the time that he doesn't help the cause. I say cut him loose. He needs to be publicly reprimanded for his betrayal. The Democrats nominated him to be Vice President, and 8 years later he's actively campaigning for the other side. It almost makes me yearn for the days of Hamilton & Burr.

Exactly right. Keeping him around to kill a filibuster doesn't help, because odds are nearly 100% that if the repukes want to stop something, he'll be on their side. In short, Reid doesn't need him anymore to hold a majority, and can't count on him to vote Dem in any case, and he pissed off the base.
If there is any downside to cutting him loose, I sure can't see it, and there is plenty of downside to keeping him.

This one's easy. Take him to the White House. Appoint him to Cabinet. Make him the frackin' Ambassador to Israel or the UN or Tahiti. Anything to get him out of the Senate.
Then fire his ass in six months after the Democratic Governor has already appointed Ned Lamont to his rightful Senate seat.
That is all.

I agree. Make him Ambassador to Israel. Talk about an offer he can't refuse. And with the CT statehouse in Dem hands, we can have a CT Senator that actually speaks, walks, & talks like a Democrat.
