AMERICAblog: Dems who supported FISA legislation, were they bought off by telcoms?

  • tbhull · 1 year ago
Not that big of a price for a proven group of unprincipled cowardly feckless whores.
  • hopelesspedant · 1 year ago
    Those contribution totals are minor.

My vote is on blackmail - that the aim of the whole program was to catch politicians (particularly Dems) with information that could be used against them.
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
    i can't stand this.
  • slowshooter · 1 year ago
At least hookers leave after you pay them.
  • Milli · 1 year ago
Oh whats the big deal. Just stop talking on the phone and using e-mail. Invest in some good carrier pigeons. There's always the chance Dick Cheney might shoot them though.
  • unrepentant_expat · 1 year ago
Yes, they are easily mistaken for doves.
  • Savage8862 · 1 year ago
I believe that the Democrats have been bought off. Money talks in Washington. These Democrats are traitors to this country.
  • unrepentant_expat · 1 year ago
Although Congress may have closed the door on civil suits by those who feel aggrieved by the telecoms, at least the Supreme Court today has given them a second(amendment) option.
  • unrepentant_expat · 1 year ago
...$8,359. Hell of a cheap price to sell out your country.

That was the down payment, don't forget the revolving door and the inevitable golden parachute .
  • red_dwarf · 1 year ago
You can afford to be a cheap whore so long as business is regular.
  • michaelt · 1 year ago
tag 'em and bag 'em, that's all you can try to do...

just to clarify, that means vote them out.
  • vegasbaby · 1 year ago
my rep, Shelley Berkley was one of the Dem flippers

I let her have it in a letter yesterday....after years of giving lots of $$$ to her, I told no more money or support from either me, my s/o, family or biz associates....

    no more....this just sickens me
  • FatRat · 1 year ago
I'm not sure which is more offensive; the selling of their votes or the miniscule amount. If you are going to betray your constituents, they might as well go for the big money.

    .
I too am a constituent of "Manolo" Berkley.
I see that she got a whopping $1K in telecom $'s.
Which leads me to believe that she had reasons OTHER than the telecoms to cast this odious vote.
I think that Nancy Pelosi has some freaky reason to give Bush a post admin pass on his crimes.
    THIS CANNOT BE TOLERATED.
Now if there was a secret midnight delivery to the Berkley household and a crate of Jimmy Choo's fell off a truck onto the front lawn, I would think that the Telco's finally got to her. And vegasbaby, keep her high heels close to the fire.

There's something hidden in all this that has more to do with indiscreet communications than with money. Tthe legislators make their calls and the telcoms have the records. That must be quite a list.

    It’s over.

Time to focus on who to kick out of the Democratic Party.

We need to get rid of the repubulicons who have infiltrated our party. To name a few: LIEberman, Feinstein, Pelosi, Reid, Hoyer, etc.

Add to the list all the DLC types, the “Blue Dog” democrats, and all those who have failed to live up to upheld the oath of the US CONSTITUTION.

I had just built up enthusiasm for Obama. Now I know I will NOT give him any of my money. I will support TRUE DEMOCRATS only. My money and volunteering efforts will go to achieve a Democratic majority made up of with TRUE DEMOCRATS.

November 2008 will be a blood bath for the business as usual TRAITORS in the in the Senate and House.

    FunMe,
2010 are the races where the netroots will start the push to eliminate the DINOS with Democratic Party primary challenges. First, solid majority rule in both houses and the Exec branch, next cleaning housed in 2010.

Oh, hell, Judas' thirty pieces of silver were probably worth more than $8,359 in Judea two thousand years ago. Sell-outs. Worse, easily-bought, cheap sell-outs. When do we get some Democrats with some cojones?
  • Asterix · 1 year ago
It makes me proud to be a citizen of a country that has the best legislators that money can buy.
  • jcro · 1 year ago
My two NJ Senators vote a big ol' NO. That makes me proud.

So, where do we get in touch with this organization called MapLight?
  • rja4429 · 1 year ago
    blackwolf: see MAPLight.org
  • blackwolf · 1 year ago
Thanks, I googled it immediately after the post, and spent a little time there. You know, there's a bunch of rats on both sides. It kind of throw some light on what really goes on in Washington.

Obama would have to clean up a lot of mess in the dem party as well.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
This is just so discouraging, not to mention disgraceful.

Perhaps I am just being idealistic, but to me saving our 4th Amendment rights are something to protect. So for our family, Obama will have to forgo any further contributions from us so his take from the telecom industries better be worth it.
  • blackwolf · 1 year ago
I just might be with you on this one. It almost smells like OB-man is playing politics behind our backs.

First, he's against it, and then he supports it. Appears he doesn't want to be seen as being weak on terrorism.

Question for anyone! When anyone takes money from lobbyists. How does the process work? Can anyone trace an example of a "money trail"?
  • jr · 1 year ago
Teddy Roosevelt sued 44 corporations but we can't even filibuster a bill for fear of corporations
  • Gryphen · 1 year ago
Let's see how that $8,359 helps them get elected when we find REAL Democrats to run against them in the next election.

God I hate it when the Dems puss out!
  • lastDem · 1 year ago
Who bought off Obama, guess hes human after all!
  • Shannon · 1 year ago
Hawaii reps voted no, there is NO excuse good enough for Obama to support this..............I have changed my mind and will not vote for him.
  • Hawk · 1 year ago
Cut the head off, Pelosi needs to GO!
  • Shari · 1 year ago
At first I thought it was just money, but these are the telecoms who've been spying on Americans. Perhaps they've found damaging info to bring Dems in line. And the speed with which Obama offered his support makes me wonder if he hasn't been leaned on as well.
