AMERICAblog: Developing countries ask G8 for more emissions cuts, sooner

  • Indigo · 5 months ago
Just say no. The "developing" countries, as the media call them, are in fact trying to recreate the worst of EuroAmerican techno-sociology. This is a wonderful opportunity to refuse further development along those lines since, in fact, all it does is generate polution and a false prosperity that leads to further economic confusion. The solution is not to "develop" but to stabilize and restore agriculture as the dominant home-based industry.

It is rather arrogant of you in the north to say we in the south can't have refrigerators or air conditioners (it's very hot here in the tropics today). I don't see where your "technologically advanced" nations are doing anything much to curb your energy consumption, or cutting back on your explotation of our resources to maintain your lifestyle.

For example, here in Mexico, my electic bills are "green priced" -- the more I use on average, the more I pay per KwH. A siimple thing, but I don't see anyone north of our border doing that. Our air conditioners, refrigerators, etc. are built to meet local conditions, as are our homes. In the U.S. you build the same houses whether in Minnesota or in the Texas desert -- both requiring massive energy and resource consumption.

WE did not create the problem, but -- typical of northern elitism -- we are expected to suffer for your screwups.

um . . . presumptuousness is a fault, su'h.  I'm a third generation Floridian.  My Maryland and Virginia ancestors were slave owners.  How much more "Southern" does it get? Su'h?
