AMERICAblog: DiFi says Bush & Co. broke the law by concealing counterterrorism program from Congress

So Feinstein isn't annoyed by torture, just the undercutting of her (Congressional) power by keeping Congress in the dark about the new program. Love it.

    Makes me cry:

"President Obama has ordered national security officials to look into allegations that the Bush administration resisted efforts to investigate a CIA-backed Afghan warlord over the killings of hundreds of Taliban prisoners in 2001."

I may be stupid and some think so, but I am not as stupid to not realize they will do nothing about anything the bush team did, they have already swept so much aside. The parts that make me actually very sad, not mad, but sad, are the parts that I voted for obama for, the feeling that america is back, with the dem house and congress, that accountablity is going to happening, that a reckoning was in play. That thousands where not sent to kill, and die for nothing more than made up stories, that those that ordered it where going to pay, that those tortured and held using my tax money in the name of my country where going to have their voices heard, that truth was going to come out to the light of day. I am not seeing that, or worse not feeling it is happening. I want the country back from those that exploit it for profit, that pull us apart for their own private political or religious endeavors. I want us to be a country again and for those that tried to "really" destroy democracy to pay for their crimes, and for civil liberties to be back to the for front. I just want better than what has been, and what is seen now.

Wow, did aliens replace Feinstein with a pod person or something?! She almost sounds like a Democrat for once!

I wonder how long it'll take before the "fierce advocate" for the Bush administration, Barack Obama, put the brakes on this rare exhibition of independence from congressional Democrats.

Let's see, it's almost 11:00 pm in California, so I'd say in about 10 hours...by 9:00 a.m. PDT tomorrow DiFi will be called to the princpal's office.

Well its about freaking time. Really, why do we keep electing these Senators and Representatives when it takes them years to figure out, for instance, that the previous Administration might have broken the law, and that it might be appropriate to open an investigation? Idiots. I am disgusted with all of them...this is again, too little, too late. Sadly, I think Obama is right on this one. Its too late, and time to just move on if we want to get things done.

You'll notice, she was careful to say that they broke the law of not telling Congress or withholding information from Congress, not that they actually did anything wrong. She's a crafty old bird and is sitting on the fence again. The real crime was that they were doing something subversive and the second crime was not telling Congress. She is only mentioning the ladder.

Its not enough to just say they broke the law. They need to be held accountable. If they subverted Constitutional governance, that is treason.

Eventually, he'll have to make a statement ( thank goodness it won't be another signing statement ) deferring this to the Attorney General and letting him hold the hot potato. I don't think Obama is much for confrontation and he doesn't want this mess attached to himself. I'm sure he has worked out all the political moves from different directions and knows what will work best so it won't stain his presidency.

NBC news reported on Sunday night that the information that Cheney had ordered the CIA to cover up certain operations in their reports to Congress as "raising questions." I would call it revealing High Treason by Cheney.

I can wait for her to back up her words with action.

After specializing in sitting on her hands for the last 10 years, DiFi makes a feeble comment. Her dozen supporters must be cheering.

My thoughts too Kevin. Feeble comment it was.

If Holder does not pursue this, it means that Obama made decisions, that directly affect our nation's principles of governing, based solely on political expediency.

I do not care that an investigation will annoy Republican lawmakers, or allegedly have an impact on passing upcoming legislation. This is bogus, and a shockingly hollow argument.

Whatever happened to doing what was right?

Wanna take the politics out of it, Mr. Holder? Appoint an independent special prosecutor and let them handle the investigations.

If not, then any future president will be able to get away with anything, and never be challenged for it. Checks-and-balances will come to an end. How the Obama administration does not seem to grasp the importance of this is a little mind-blowing.

Yet, all I see is Obama continuing many of those same egregious policies that Bush/Cheney set in place.
