AMERICAblog: Dissidents jailed during Olympics, for Olympics

  • lynchie · 1 year ago
Be nice to know who the Chinese paid off in the Olympic committee to get the Games. The world revolves around money. If there wasn't enough evidence during the movement of the flame, the censoring of internet now we hear about jailing anyone who doesn't agree. Mr. Chimperator of course doesn't want to cause a scene, I think he and Pickles are afraid they won't get an eggroll if they order the #2 meal.

It has nothing to do with size. China OWNS us. They can do whatever the hell they want, anytime they want. Bush sold this country to finance his war for oil.

I think of what would be the just punishment for what Bush/Cheney and the Republicans have done to this coutnry. There needs to be a public contest for suggestions and the real feelings of the great American population would be known.
  • SarainKC · 1 year ago
I think something similar to Mussolini would be good. Nothing elaborate. Just a public shooting and upside down hanging in the streets where we the people can stop by with our "condolances".

Sarain: A great suggested punishment as copied from the Italians of Milano.
I hope others will put forth some more just punishments. I admit to too
much anger to even express what I'm thinking would be just. Perhaps, the court
at the Hague is the best place for international crimes.

Who gives a turd what China does? America lost the moral high ground a long time ago.

2004 Republican National Convention protest activity includes the broad range of marches, rallies, performances, demonstrations, exhibits, and acts of civil disobedience in New York City to protest the 2004 Republican National Convention and the nomination of President George W. Bush for the 2004 U.S. presidential election, as well as a much smaller number of people who marched to support Bush at the convention.

Hundreds of groups organized protests, including United for Peace and Justice, a coalition of more than 800 anti-war and social justice groups, and International ANSWER. Over 1800 individuals were arrested by the authorities, a record for a political convention in the U.S. [ However 90% of those charges were eventually dropped.

Totally agree. The US represents 5% of the world's population but has in jail 25% of the world's prison population (>50% for drug use), not to mention all the bullshit at protests around the country (rubber balls anyone?), as well as that touched on by unrepentant_expat. Americans, bitch all you want - but I do believe nobody is listening.

Yes indeed. We'll have to do much more than " deal " with China who holds most of our debt. They will soon own us. Thanks to the Republicans for putting us in ditches of all sizes and types. The Bush/Cheney legacies will be the disgrace of all time. Now, WANT MORE PAIN ?????VOTE McCain!!!!!

"Their indefinite detainment, relatives and neighbors said, is the price they are paying for stirring up trouble..."

"The Olympic Games have become the occasion for a broad crackdown against dissidents, gadflies and malcontents this summer."

What's with the assholish editorizing spin in this article?
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
They probably had to take China's side to get it past the censors, like war correspondents did in Nazi Germany.

(Unless the censors just put it in themselves.).

I totally agree with unrepentant expat. Totally. As a dissident, gadfly and malcontent most of my adult life, my free speech rights have been violated over and over by this govt. and yes, I was jailed for it, too.

A song for our time, actually. I never get tired of it.

It's important for Amerika's country club athletes to feel safe from malconents. The Beijing Games of 2008 are the Berlin Games of 1936 Revisted. Später denn komt die Krieg . . .

The problem for us Yanks is that we've fallen out of our ivory tower, and we're in no position to point the finger at other nations for their shortcomings in the area of human rights. When our government engages in an offically sanctioned policy of torture and the citizenry and the judicial system do nothing in response, then we've given up our rights to pontificate from a lofty moral perch about the transgressions of the Chinese. Glass houses, and all that....

When I worked at the jail in Seattle, they used to round up mentally ill street people and arrest them for "trespassing" whenever a high-profile event was coming to the city.

The Chinese government wants no embarrassing incidents during the Olympics. So therefore the Communists are going out of their way to create them. What a great reminder about the dangers of a dictatorial society. You would never see any of this happening in the good old USA!
Oh wait, just for a minute I forgot the corporate fascists had taken over our lives.
