    I just happened upon this site and I realized it is indeed possible to be gay and racist. I had not thought that possible for some reason. You don't have to be only straight to be intolerant. This thing of expecting the President to fix all ills in a short time is crazy.
    Saying you will not vote for him in '12 is even crazier. Does it mean you will be dependent on a Republican to help you, just because you cannot be patient with this man who is trying sooo hard? What "friends" you are! Someone here said MLK was not "patient"....he surely was. After all he had to deal with a lot of log time ignorant people and had to take his time doing it. Why so impatient? You believed that 'cause he is black that he is a liberal? All his enemies painted him as such (and maybe you in hope did too)...but HE never said he was. Main point here...he leans the left way, is as good a man as you will ever find. So please just give a big hush...and let the guy do his job. What ever he does will NEVER be enough for Republicans and obviously for this site. Republicans at heart??

    If Obama was trying to keep his promises, I'd cut him some slack. The exposure of the Maine Email Lie shows that he's consciously not trying at all.

    Therefore, this president isn't "trying sooo hard". He's just trying to make a fool of you, and succeeding.

    How dare you call us racist? What skewed perspective are you reading from that you think we are upset with President Obama because he is African-American? Your logic makes no sense at all. I could pick at all the holes in your comment but for the sake of time, I will only point out a few:

    What evidence do you have that Obama is "Trying sooo hard?" In fact, there is plenty of evidence that he is not trying nearly hard enough, which if you took the time to read this blog and the comments, you would know. You are unfairly judging people based on limited experience and knowledge.

    While MLK may have been "patient" by your standards, I wouldn't agree with that characterization. Is a patient man one that calls for protests, boycotts, marches, and relentless pressure on the government to award equal civil rights? If MLK had been patient I believe equality would have been a lot longer in coming. There can no such thing as being patient in the fight for equality - every day that we prolong the homophobia and inequality brings more shame and injustice to our country's image.

    What exactly is your definition of liberal? I cannot believe that you think Obama is not a liberal and would not characterize himself as such. His "enemies" never painted him as a liberal but rather a socialist or worse, comparing him to Hitler. His supporters embrace his liberal tendencies. (Additionally, your second to last sentence doesn't make any sense in this context).

    Finally, if you're going to comment here, expect it to be critically analyzed.

    So I've read these blogs about Obama and I still have to ask the question, so what if Obama is against us? The ugly truth here about the Maine election is Maine voters don't like us, just like California voters last year with Prop 8. It is easier to blame the president then deal with the elephant in the room. Now ask yourself this question - if Obama is so influentual, why after campaigning for Corzine did the Democratic governor lose? After all, did not a majority of voters in NJ go for Obama himself last year? What does that tell you about the president's influence? Perhaps it is limited. Deal with the elephant in the room folks. It ain't Obama out to get us!

    I'm glad you wrote this, but it begs the question: if Obama is against us, then what other avenue is available if an issue of civil rights for Americans can be trampled upon by the President of the United States?

    We're all equal, but some are more equal than others?

    For this plight, substitute Blacks, women and any other minority, and tell me why we never learn that what's staring us in the face is that we must struggle, rather than have these rights guaranteed as they already are in our Constitution?

    Marriage is a contract between two people like any other that can be dissolved at will, and that makes 'straight' marriage more sacred than two people of the same sex? With a better than 50% divorce rate in this country? What hypocrisy, let alone the ridiculous of it.

    If only one man and one woman can get married, then let's make sure it's just that: one man, one woman with no hope of divorce for either party for the duration of their lifetimes.

    Furthermore, since religion is being played as the obvious hate card and we live in a Nation that used to know how to separate the two without offending God in the process, then how can religion usurp the courts to satisfy bigots who's only claim to fame is ignorance of their own salvation in the first place, let alone... another's?

    Finally, the early Christian churches celebrated gay marriages in their churches from one shore to another until the fourteenth century, with Sts Sergius and Bacchus two of the most glaring examples of the church's proactive stance on gay marriage, which ultimately trumps any 'tradition' now being claimed.

    What say you now?

    President Obama has stated he is not in favor of gay marriage, so if I oppose his thinking, I'm racist? Far from it.

    If this is an open blog I've just stumbled on this evening, then let it remain an open blog of people's thoughts, ideas and feelings. If not, close the site and let someone else with courage step up to the plate and offer a forum of intelligent thought and discourse.
