AMERICAblog: Does Bush FDA own responsibility for Vioxx deaths?

And TV is still pushing a Vytorin type anti-cholestoral drug, too, while Vioxx is still being touted as "worth it" for patients, in spite of the deaths. How would a person know they won't be next?
I try to take as few drugs as possible, and it's sad that for most Americans doctors are pushing drugs instead of advising an active lifestyle from childhood, doing people in this country a great disservice.
We've become a country that just wants "to watch" instead of doing anything physical. People will pay hundreds of dollars extra for TV shows that feature cars going around in a circle, men pretending to "crush" their opponents...but they won't get off their fat asses to walk around the block. When they see someone on the road walking to a store, they feel sorry for them because walking is a disappearing value. Riding means wealth and security and the more expensive and flashy the ride, the better.

There has been a great comparison of healthcare systems all around the world on Frontline, coping with the question of regulation, among other aspects. An overview, interview transcripts, and video is online: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/sickaro... A very informative report on the strengths, but also the weaknesses of those different systems. Highly recommended
What ethical doctor allows his or her name on a ghost-written, glowing report on a drug they didn't research?

We're at the end of a round of selfish behavior like O&W described. At least I hope so! The selfishness reached a new level of nutiness here in central Florida recently where the Republican representatives voted against Bush's proposal to fund medical help for HIV, AIDS, and other ailments in Africa. That little off-beat tick cost that entire crew of seven role models for social malice [Ginny Brown-Waite, Tom Feeney, Ric Keller, John Mics, Adam Putnam, Cliff Steans and Dave Weldon] a raised eyebrow comment in the local newspaper. Unbelievable! I'm talking about the newspaper from Hades but even the devil couldn't tag along on their "money-saving" negativity. I think it's over; I think we're going to see a transition after the November election and the profit-taking. There won't be much left after the demons sweep their chips off the table, but at least they'll be gone.

Ring Of Fire on Air America radio had a former FDA employee on last weekend and it was disgusting how bad they're destroyed the agency. Norquistian hell for the people, heaven for the drug companies
