AMERICAblog: Does it matter what's in your fridge?

  • Chris From Maine · 1 year ago
    bullcrap.

thats another obama is "elitist" article.

I'm an Obama guy and I eat Kit Kats and I hate organic food. so there.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
Oh really, I have white wine, butter, prefer olive oil, drink lattes, although I have never tried Bear Naked granola the name sounds fascinating. So there goes that theory. I support Obama.
  • devis1 · 1 year ago
I have no food in my refrigerator. Who do I vote for?
  • dmd76 · 1 year ago
Who keeps red wine and olive oil in the fridge? I have boquerones, butter, and left-overs in my fridge.
  • bumpkis · 1 year ago
I got some roundish brown stuff, sliced...and some green ovals things with white fuzz on em...so, does that mean I am not an "elitist"?
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
Depends on whether one of the "green oval things" hangs lower than the other one....... ;).....
  • dogeatdogi · 1 year ago
  • momby · 1 year ago
I'm so confused...white wine, butter, ball park franks, yogurt and grape jelly. I'm for Obama.
  • LunaStick · 1 year ago
Had to check, I got Coke Zero, OJ, 1% milk, eggs, 2 kinds of mustard, mayo, pickles, strawberry jam, cheddar cheese, flour tortillas and a 12 pack (what's left of it) of Miller Lite. Olive, Canola and vegetable oil in the cabinet along with Oreo's and baking stuff. Can't stand Fig Newton's. ICK!
  • ndtovent · 1 year ago
Damn!!... that's almost exactly what I have in mine!...I have olive oil, but NOT in the fridge (up in the cupbard - who the hell keeps olive oil in the fridge??). No fig newtons, but I do like em... oh...and I do have some white wine in there...pinot grigio. In addition to the cheddar, i have swiss, monterey jack, parmesian, and motzarella cheeses, salad veggies...
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
    bumpkis

No it means you need to CLEAN out your fridge. :)
  • bumpkis · 1 year ago
AQ2...Yeah....in the spring...which starts in November here...

O/T Hillary just showed on Colbert. Didn't sit for questions or even get closer than 10 feet from Colbert. She left and his first bit was about debate and George S. letting her off on question about conversation with Richardson because "she didn't want to talk about it". Looked like a slam that she wouldn't sit down with Colbert and answer questions.
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
I am not much for lattes. I prefer my coffee black, but I do like fig newtons once in awhile. I only use real butter, but I cook with and dip into a good olive oil.
    I guess that's why I supported Edwards.
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
Edwards? The sane candidate with no baggage? Get out of here!
Italian bread dipped into balsamic and olive oil, ..... my favorite..
  • ModerateLefty · 1 year ago
Sorry to be so sour about this, but herein lies much of the problem. The cheap, reductive linking of what we consume to how we vote. Is there truth in it? Yes. Should we report on it and obsess over it - probably not. As Benjamin Barber has pointed out, Americans have become CONSUMERS first, CITIZENS second (or third or fourth...) We are better than this. I don't give a fudge what you have in your fridge. Let's elevate the discussion and not give in to the tyranny of branding, lifestyle marketing, products and junk culture. We may think about it, share our predilections, make small talk about it, laugh about it -- as Americans we have the leisure to do so -- but let it not define us. I know, I know...lighten up, dude....
  • devis1 · 1 year ago
Now Edwards on Colbert--still won't say who he's going to endorse. Funnier than Clinton tho!
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
Didn't someone, maybe Nigel, say that all three, Clinton, Obama, and Edwards, were going to be on Colbert tonight?
  • devis1 · 1 year ago
    Saving the best for last?!!
  • devis1 · 1 year ago
    OOOOOYEAH!!
  • devis1 · 1 year ago
    Don't mention it busboy!
  • devis1 · 1 year ago
    Good night!
  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago
Yup, butter and wine...Hillary, as she said last evening, has a lot of baggage though mostly around her calves and hips...
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
    OT

This just goes beyond ANYTHING that Gibson or Stephanopoulos have to say to vindicate their "debate" as anything more that a hit piece. Remember the old lady in the "debate". Hmmm, seems the Times did a piece on her on April 4th, she is quite familiar with the press. She doesn't like Obama because he doesn't wear a flag pin and has said so before. WHAT A COINCIDENCE SHE TURNS UP AS THE SOLE DEBATE QUESTIONER!!!! This should not go unnoticed---first Stuffy with his Hannity question and now this. Oh sure, this was a debate and I am the tooth fairy.

My grandpa told me that a chicken in every pot didn't mean much to people didn't have a pot to piss in.
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
    Hi, mirth.
  • unrepentant_expat · 1 year ago
People who live under bridges don't have fridges or are often registered voters.
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
Bush Bites, or skeletons in the closet
  • LeslieB · 1 year ago
Oh my god, you mean I have to get rid of the white wine and Fig Newtons if I want to vote for Obama. Who knew?! To think someone actually got paid to write that too.
  • LeslieB · 1 year ago
    Mirth 2 hours ago
Oh, I also have a baked apple stuffed with mascarpone, currents and walnuts. Which candidate does this suggest?

    You're undecided. LOL.

    Oh-oh, that's where Saddam's WMD went.

If the media spent more time analysing the pre-war intel as they do our food, America wouldn't be in a war and falling into a depression.

Anywho...yeah, I love extra virgin olive oil, no-salt butter, white wines for cooking, and granola bars and mochas for treats. So I guess my taste buds picked Obama. ;-)
  • ModerateLefty · 1 year ago
Thanks, Mirth, you're right. But it's so damn hard to lighten up. I've got butter (lots of butter), unfiltered olive oil, some dense, chewy Tuscan red and leftover Beef Bourgignon lying around. I made a pizza tonight with melted leeks, pancetta and walnut oil. Obama? Maybe I should write in Berlusconi come November. I'll pop a Tums and get back to you.
  • unrepentant_expat · 1 year ago
anyone here catch the kerfuffle between Rachel Maddow and Joe Scarborough on MSNBC today? good golly I hope she is some of the shape to come to the media. Video at C&L

  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
Last woman Scarborough gave that look to was later found dead in his office.
  • paulbe · 1 year ago
If you vote John McCain there's probably nothing in your fridge, for which you still manage to blame "liberals".
  • Satanobot · 1 year ago
Hmm - 2% milk, leftover pasta, cheese singles, barbeque sauce (for veggie burgers), two racks of sam adams and homebrew. Obama Supporter now, Edwards Supporter before that.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
    Food jokes...oh dear, I'm doomed...
  • interlude · 1 year ago
who does a gin drinker vote for? this one is all Obama.

in my fridge at the moment:
black beans, chesses, teacte, pizza, lettuce, sliced ham.
  • TomJoad · 1 year ago
Oh my god... who can make this idiocy stop? When can we get to actually address the PROBLEMS, and where the candidates SAY they stand and what they SAY they will do, and what they HAVE DONE in the past, and analyze if what they say makes any sense or not, or if what they say is true even, or if they have ever shown inclination to do the things they SAY they will do.

Instead of what the hell is in my fridge, and how likely that makes me to vote for whom.

God damn it man...this country is flushing down the toilet, and they STIL L just want to pretend it is all just a popularity contest, admiration society voting, or People Magazine person-of-the-year style election.

This stuff is serious, and I think someone with oversight (like say...congress) ought to start directing that we revoke broadcasting licenses if they cannot take it seriously.
  • sallyh · 1 year ago
I was told never to refrigerate olive oil. I have white wine and butter and I drink bourbon. I will vote for whichever democrat gets the nomination.
  • BatGuano · 1 year ago
I like nothing better than bourbon (Maker's Mark) and pizza. But I'm all about the Obama.
  • mirth · 1 year ago
    Unsalted butter
    Olive oil
    Fig Newtons
    Southern Comfort

    Obama
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
White wine, pink, Blue sapphire gin, vermouth, parmesan, pomegranate juice, bacon, eggs,....etc....and I'm voting for________; well, I don't know yet.... I'm negotiating with Mirth for my vote; but, she hasn't offered anything interesting yet.... ;)...
Why would you keep olive oil in the fridge?
  • mirth · 1 year ago
Oh, I also have a baked apple stuffed with mascarpone, currents and walnuts. Which candidate does this suggest?
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
Mascarpone is a triple-cream cheese made from crème fraîche by denaturing with tartaric acid. Sometimes buttermilk is added as well.

Darn it Mirth, you made me google that! Are you going to tell us you made it yourself?
  • mirth · 1 year ago
    Busboy,

I didn't realize it was only stuff in the frig. I mean, c'mon - granola bars?! Of my list, only the unsalted butter is in the frig. The olive oil is on the counter, the newtons are in a drawer and the Southern Comfort is within reach.
  • mirth · 1 year ago
Yep, Luna, I did. That was my dinner, half of it leftover for breakfast.
Hey! I'm single. I can eat whatever I want!
    :)
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
My Aunt Susie from Mississippi kept her loaded revolver in the fridge. She voted for Goldwater.
  • mirth · 1 year ago
    Hi Karol :)

    ModerateLefty,

Do you think we are letting this light post (after a day packed with heavy ones) define us? Seriously?

    Yes! Ferchrissakes, lighten up!

G'night All. See you again tomorrow.
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
    Thankyew, and goodnight...
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
Would somebody please give me another negative point? I'm stuck on -666; which is not a good number for this Catholic boy...
