That's not the real problem. That is the symptom. The REAL problem is the disconnect between the people in Congress (mainly republicans, neo-cons, but a fair share of others voted on this as well) and Executive office, supposedly in charge of the welfare of the people, and the people.
Corporations are like immortal (and amoral) sharks swimming among us. They don't die unless they Enron it. But they concentrate their power, and it trumps ours.

People, EVEN the people that work in those corporations (with the exception of the top folk) WANT regulation for our safety. The "invisible hand" only works when there is a moral component as well as a long-term viewpoint. It should be business suicide to have slip ups like these, but we see there are no consequences. Or no direct ones on the companies.

OSHA has been gutted for decades. Horror stories about the Foundries, and mines, and other workplaces abound.

People need to get a handle on how to band together on this. You would think even religious (truly religious) orgs would be out for the welfare of the congregations, but they just want to moon over gay marriage or other things. While their flock gets sheared at their jobs, in their food, etc.

People need to pay attention to who votes for what and learn how our government works, NOW as never before purely even just out of self-preservation, and of their children.

"Once in power, E. coli conservatives shrink government by hamstringing it. They weaken rules that protect people, slash the budgets of consumer agencies and appoint industry friends to oversight commissions. The result: Some government regulatory agencies that we trust to protect us have shrunk to insignificance or serve private industry rather than consumers."

    More succinctly:

"Conservatives run on the idea that government doesn't work, then they get elected and prove it".

Republicans are not the solution to our problem, Republicans are the problem."

Here's the in-depth Obama article that TNYer said proved their disgraceful cover was not malicious:

I've only read the first bit of it so I could be wrong, but it seems like a soft hit job to me.

I miss a big juicy hamburger I grill myself with a big slice of lemon. Haven't had one in years, though. The food's not safe. Thanks idiot bush and repuke voters. They're testing a man in Mass now who they think may have mad cow.

The idiot wingnuts are killing us.

I heard a wingnut on the radio say that you can remove mad cow (pirons) from meat by cooking it really well.

"E.coli conservatives..." I like that. It should be john mccain's new campaign slogan and new motto.

And chicken is bad, too. They're so full of chemicals and hormones they're deformed no alot of the time. And that doesn't get cooked out. I'm a southerner and I miss my fried chicken. I can't fucking afford to buy free range chickens. One in three are now expected to get cancer. Used to be like 1 in a hundred.

Thank you idiot repuke voters for voting the reptiles in there and their policies the last 30 years. You're so stupid that you think it wont affect you but it is. I asked a family member who voted for bush twice why she had stopped eating roast on Sunday mornings. She said she couldn't eat beef anymore since she saw that video of the cow being mistreated. So I asked her what she eats and she said mostly chicken and fish now. I said this is because there are no longer agencies that watch over that sort of thing because of republican policies she voted for to prevent it and I could tell she was starting to seeth toward me but it's the fucking truth. So they're all angry at me now like I'm the big heavy. One voted for bush because "he was somebody he's like to have a beer with. Another voted for bush because her preacher told her to. The other one doesn't even know who's running right now and has never voted in his life and he's almost 50.

It's interesting that the "small government" Republicans have basically run the government using fear - basically, they make you mistrust government by proving it doesn't work to help you with basics like education or medical care.

They also use fear to make you think that you need some government to "protect" you from terrorists, rougue states, homosexuals, and pornography.

Ironically, they've done such a good job making the government not work - and expanding its size at the same time - that they've made everyone loose confidence in Republicans...

We'll find out when Bush leaves that there is no government. It's just an empty shell with a few Bushies out front pretending there's a government.

I know first hand. I was in the ER this weekend with food poisoning - again. The last time I was hospitalized for three days. I try not to eat in restaurants because I'm afraid of what I'm being served. Still, I'm ending up getting sick. Is the FDA even working?

Also, a friend of mine has been hospitalized with salmonella for the past six weeks and receiving plasmapheresis. Enough is enough.
