i agree with HereinDC- Hillary should get Debra B. up on stage tonight and set her straight, or at least call bullshit on that ad.

Thanks John! That was great.

That was really cool! I felt like I was sitting down at a noisy bar having a beer and shooting the shit with a fellow feminist whose opinion I highly respect, only John kept interrupting and wouldn't let me get a question in edgewise. I truly mean that in a good way and am not trying to be snarky at all.
Good job, all of you!

"You're my son's favorite blog!" But when he moves out of the basement and decides to wear long pants . . . :-) I dunno, John. That's a two-edged compliment she gave you. Nice interview, though.

Here's what I wanna know: when are they gonna turn these people loose on those swine who say it's either Hillary or they vote GOP? When are they going to set people like Smeal, Michelman, and Cindy Sheehan on them? I want these disgraceful human beings to have to face those women and others like them, who wil turn them into dust if they persist in this whiny nonsense they should be embarrassed about but somehow aren't. I really want them to pay, big time.

"Former Hillary supporter." Well, I am glad Smeal has moved beyond the politics of female victimization during the Dem debates, when she lumped Obama in with all other men who, by their very presence, seemed to be causing a "flashback" to the Anita Hill-Clarence Thomas hearings, when men outnumbered the lone woman in the harsh political spotlight. Smeal conveniently forgot that Clinton chose that spotlight.

true feminists, female and male, recognize that McCain is untenable. the rest are GOPers trying to get on teevee...and succeeding quite nicely.

uplifting interviews. should have asked why NOW supported placing Hillary's name into nomination. some readers on here thought it was a good idea but I don't think JA was at all pleased.

Nice to see you can do good work and have fun, too. Keep it coming John. Now that Debra Bartoshevich has been kicked out of the convention, does anyone know how we can kick her out of Wisconsin?

Ellie Smeal is a petty tyrant and egomaniac The world doesn't need more of her. It's time she moved on from the "women's movement" and stopped sucking up the small amount of oxygen available to feminist causes.

Hey, John, I just picked up the Kim Gandy video.
Absolutely outstanding.
And yours is MY favorite blog too-- if that counts for anything! (:->

Was a NOW member before Smeal was president, but with the early endorsement of Clinton, I'm no longer a member. Emily's list got not a dime this year for the same reason.
John it's nice you were impressed with Smeal and Gandy. Gandy is a terrific person, but NOW jumped the gun with Clinton. Not all women are feminists and not all feminists are women, but NOW ignored the fact that peace is also a major issue with most feminists. Did they check Clinton's legislative record? Most of it was little more than fluff. Why would a life long 73 year old feminist who has done more than her share of street action for feminist causes deny Clinton support? The Lieberman/Kyl Amendment to the Defense Authorization Act of 2008 was the final straw for me, when she voted for not the authorization of force on Iraq, almost all did believing Bushes lies, but to provide what could well be used as an authorization of force on IRAN was another matter entirely. I'm more than relieved she lost. And only hope she doesn't choose to pull anymore shenanigans tomorrow night with the roll call vote. BTW, your blog is the first blog each morning out hear in the capitol of the not so golden state. The NOW chapter I once organized has long since been defunct. The marches and rallies in the old days against Reagan obviously didn't succeed, but in a very parochial area we gave it our best shot. Had we succeeded what grief we might have saved our children and now grandchildren as Dubya as carried on his legacy only worse.

Women Want Safety, not Biden's Abuse of Power
Senator Joe Biden proudly proclaims that he was regularly and severely beaten by his older sister as a child and as an adolescent. This is the same sister that raised his two sons after his wife and daughter were killed in an auto accident.
Biden has often claimed that the Violence against Women Act is the greatest achievement of his career. He also claims that a woman cannot be a perpetrator of domestic violence, despite the fact that hundreds of studies show that women commit acts of domestic violence as often or more often than men. Many studies also show that lesbian women physically attack their intimate partners at higher rates than heterosexual men.
As a result of Biden's Violence against Women Act, the federal government pays states to create laws effectively requiring that innocent men be removed from their homes and families without even an allegation of violence, with no legitimate standards of evidence, when a woman makes a claim that she is afraid.
Elaine Epstein, president of the Massachusetts Bar Association (1999), has said "the facts have become irrelevant... restraining orders are granted to virtually all who apply. Regarding divorce cases, she states "allegations of abuse are now used for tactical advantage". According to Epstein, who is also a former president of the Massachusetts Women’s Bar Association, restraining orders are doled out "like candy" and "in virtually all cases, no notice, meaningful hearing, or impartial weighing of evidence is to be had." Cathy Young reports on the Elaine Epstein quote and the broader issue at Salon.com here:
This report from RADAR (Respecting Accuracy in Domestic Abuse Reporting) provides much insight into the situation brought about, in large part, by Joe Biden.
State restraining order laws are starting to fall because they're unconstitutional. The federal law behind them, written by Joe Biden, is likely to fall as well, not because it isn’t popular, but because it is clearly unconstitutional.

I will be totally happy with the feminists when the truly help the lower middle class and working poor women. I don't see them trying to help these women get the advantages that alot of executive women get. They would love to get paid sick leave, paid for vacations, and flex hours. These ladies really need the help. These people only give them lip service. I know I might make some of you mad but I am 60 yrs old woman. I have had jobs where I got some breaks such as working in government offices. When I moved to this town I worked part time. I didn't get any sick, vacation pay. Hell I didn't even get a cost of living pay increase. I would have thought I should have gotten at least that much sense a loaf a bread cost the same for everyone else. I am sick and tired hearing that people working in fast food places, restaurants, waitress, waiters etc. are only people in high school or college. I got news for you all not in these small towns and I am sure every place else.
