1 big one down, us next. the volatility of the markets makes me think it's going to eventually break up or down, and it seems like it's more likely to be down.

Any family making less than $40K a year has been in a recession for some time...guess what the median income for a family in the US is? $45K/yr...lots of us have been hurting out here for some time, kids.
After all, we wouldn't have millions facing foreclosure if it weren't true.
Although I can now fill my tank for $20, there's no job to go to.

When did the US 2008 recession start?
Below are ECRI’s official recession calls in the past: Feb. 6, 1990 by Geoffrey Moore. Lead-time = 6 months. Mar. 26, 2001 by Anirvan Banerji. Lead-time = 0 months. Mar. 21, 2008 by Lakshman Achuthan. Lead-time =?
My own speculation is that ECRI’s recession call is late this time around. There was solid evidence for a recession call in January 2008. Unfortunately, ECRI was hoping that rapid rate cuts by the Fed could help avert a recession. They did not realize that this particular recession, driven by a deflating credit bubble, would increase the time needed for monetary stimulus to work itself into the economy.
Hence, until NBER announces the official recession dates for this cycle, I will assume that it began in January 2008.
We'll be in recession when our Lords and Masters tell us we're in recession.

Chris, you might enjoy this: On NPR this am, a Frenchman (I don't think it was Sarkozy himself but a rep) attending the G20 made the optimistic comment that "The US now has an intelligent president-elect..."
