She is still living in sin, right?
  • Gridlock · 9 months ago
No, not 'everyone' should be abstinent. Some of us are able to handle sexual relations responsibly and in an adult manner.

Just because the Palin clan has reproductive issues doesn't mean the rest of us have to march in the same hypocritical fundie line
  • Rob Mule · 9 months ago
Am I sled-team loaded or did she say, "everybody's drinks absinthe..."?
  • Older_Wiser · 9 months ago
Bristol smart and wise? Well, if she had practiced safe sex, she wouldn't have gotten pregnant. She also makes it seem okay to start having babies as young as possible, screwing up your life forever. Not everyone has a gov. mother and no drawbacks in their lives. She'll be able to continue with her education (if she wants it) and with mom's pull, get a well paying job.

I wouldn't advise any teenager to take advice from her. It's not the sex, because I fully expect teenagers to have sex, but protect yourself, both from pregnancy AND disease, esp. when your boyfriend was said to be banging every girl in Wasilla. Cheeeezus.
  • ChrisSF · 9 months ago
Oooh, the fundies are going to fume over this! Way to go, Bristol. It's about time the crazies got some talkback from their own kids about the abject failure of abstinence-only as a disease prevention and pregnancy reduction model. Something is very wrong in this country when the only thing teenagers are taught about condoms is that they can fail.

    Oh.my.God. Get this:

    http://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/2/16/133958/...

A photo of Obama was taken down at airforce base in Colorado after people "complained!" WTF?!!?

    I wrote the base this:

"I'm a submarine veteran from the Cold War, and I would like to know why Obama's photo was taken down during President's Day?

This, to me, is an affront to the Commander-in-Chief and INSUBORDINATION. The military doesn't have to LIKE the elected Commander-in-Chief but he damned well better be respected.

Have you people forgotten your chain of command?"

The current President's photo is ALWAYS displayed on Presidents Day on bases. This is a huge slap in the face of the Commander-in-Chief and very worrisome to think the military would disrespect their POTUS in this manner.

I'm sure that base has been taken over by rightwing fundies...is it in Colorado Springs by any chance?

Good for you! Whoever was involved should be put in the brig and court martialed for insubordination and disrespect to the CiC.
  • cowboyneok · 9 months ago
Yes, its VERY CLOSE to the bigots in Colorado Springs! They must think they don't have to respect the current President because their pastor told them to vote for John McCain. I'm sure they think they are being "patriotic."

  • cowboyneok · 9 months ago
"People out there are evil because they don't konw whats going on." Yea, right, Bristol... Ever thought people are reacting to the intolerant message your Mama and her cult bring down on the rest of us? Now, THAT INTOLERANCE is evil. The response to your pregnancy is just a reaction to that EVIL your Mama brought on herself and you, as her family. Its just every day people reacting to a bunch of bumpkins trying to act as THE AUTHORITIES on human behavior and the fact YOU proved them absolutely wrong by GETTING PREGNANT. Someone needs to explain to Bristol that "evil" is simply a reaction to "people in glass houses shouldn't be throwing stones" all the time.

Someone needs to explain to Bristol those "evil people" would be 110% supportive of her if her mama and her family weren't so damned judgmental and hypocritical regarding everyone else and their HUMAN choices.

I was amazed that Greta was so surprised that Sarah showed up. She was expecting the "other" grandmother. Like Sarah P would pass up an opportunity for some fame-whoring on National Television. Hell to the no! No way she would let her daughter eclipse her.

So has the message gotten through yet? Has it become clear that the ever-ascending birth rate has to stop, like, yesterday? Octomom? Teen moms? 13 year old dads? Families with 18 kids? Let's get one thing straight: sex education is the number one priority today if we want to survive. We should be handing out birth control with their schoolbooks. It should be COMPULSORY. It's all gone too far, so please, people. Get the friggin' message!

None of this would have happened if she had been practicing "saddlebacking"

Saddlebacking: sad•dle•back•ing \ˈsa-dəl-ˈba-kiŋ\ vb [fr. Saddleback Church] (2009): the phenomenon of Christian teens engaging in unprotected anal sex in order to preserve their virginities

After attending the Purity Ball, Heather and Bill saddlebacked all night because she’s saving herself for marriage.

“Everyone should be abstinent . . . but it’s not realistic at all,”

Why? What should be done is start teaching what happens when one is overcome by the moment of lust and doesn't know a thing about contraception. The fact that she became pregnant from this is obvious, but what about all the potential STDs she may have caught in the process? I do not excuse her macho boyfriend for not using any protection either. They both weren't born yesterday, they know about condoms, they know about birth control, They've trusted the "Just Say No" crowd and now, here they are with a child being raised by teenagers. Living with children "out of wedlock" is a problem in their form of religion. It's amazing how many free-passes some get when they break their own rules. Hypocrisy, you have no shame.
  • Reality · 9 months ago
Hoo-boy! But I bet this like has the family values, right-wingers like cringing and the spin doctors like running to the phones. Did I say like, cause you know, I like really like saying like.

No, it never has been realistic to tell teens they must, must, must abstain from sex. It has never worked and unplanned teen pregnancies are highest among born-again Christians. Smart people encourage their teens to abstain from sex, but also make sure they know what they need to know about sex, how not to get pregnant and how not to contract an STD. Why send these so-called "mixed messages"? Becaue smart people know that teens don't use the best judgement and their sex drives oftern overrule their common sense and resolve.
  • ndtovent · 9 months ago
Good for her! It's about time someone who's walked the walk admitted that 'abstinence only' propaganda is not effective against unwanted pregnancies and std's, even if she was kinda 'tongue in cheek.'

Actually, I think she sounds quite stupid. Her comments are so monosyllabic and inane. ...Der! 'Changing diapers is hard work!' But, getting laid was easy! ooops. I didn't mean to talk about that! In fact, who knows how I got this baby?...
Granted, I went to a high school with about twice the population of Bristol's entire Alaskan hometown, but even by the age of 17, I was a lot more reflective, articulate, and responsible than this slutty clown! It's very "realistic" that you'll get pregnant without protection, ya dimwit!
Der! I think she doesn't have much respect for her mother-that's for sure! Or else she's just fully embraced the Palin/GOP penchant for extreme hypocrisy!
i.e. A "reformer" who is found guilty of ethics law violations...hmmm!
  • 2008 · 9 months ago
Seriously, she sounds so simple-minded. I mean after my younger brother had his first child, he actually could say some profound things about it. All she can muster is--"awesome." As in, that hockey game was so cool and "awesome." That pizza is "awesome"! My new jeans are "awesome." (eyes roll) You get the idea... I know that teen moms adore their kids as much as anyone, but, whew, Bristol doesn't strike me as a deep thinker on the subject!!

Moreover, it doesn't sound like those "wedding plans" are too firm!!...
  • Indigo · 9 months ago
If it's not realistic to expect abstinence, then what's the expectation about? Foolishnes is foolishness no matter how you slice it up.
  • Andrew · 9 months ago
I didn't see the actual quote about it being "accepted" in that clip. This YouTube video has the full exchange: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQgaBvgmS88

She's actually not saying it's not realistic AND it's more accepted, she's saying it's not realistic BECAUSE it's "more and more accepted now," i.e. if all those sluts and horndogs weren't pressuring me, I wouldn't have gotten pregnant. She says everyone should still be abstinent, it's just not realistic with all the pressure. (I'm paraphrasing her broken, "like-laden" comments.)

She's just like her mother: stupid, uneducated and unwilling to take responsibility for her own actions. It's someone else's fault.

But it's good to see she'll be speaking to teens about teen pregnancy--wealthy, white, good Christian girls can get pregnant too, it's not just the black and immigrant kids in the ghetto! (sarcasm)

This is just an another example of how far we've gotten away from the Word of God:

    Exodus 22:16
    1 Corinthians 7:36

We've allowed ourselves as a society to believe that adulthood begins at 18 over time...when our bodies tell us otherwise. If we aren't strong enough spiritually to contain ourselves, then there is a provision that God provides.... marriage either before loss of physical/spirtual virtue, or to the one to whom physical/spiritual virtue is lost. Exodus 22:16 is one of God's original judgments following the Ten Commandments in Exodus, chapter 20.

It's time for us as a nation to wake up & realize that we're gone down the wrong path & have to get right before God finishing bringing judgment for all our past sins..... because it's happening already...
  • RitornaVincitor · 9 months ago
It's really not possible to tell from the bible if God is nasty or nice. The bible is full of examples of God's vindictiveness. For example:

"I will not pity, nor spare, nor have mercy, but destroy." (JER 13:14) "Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not, but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling."

But the bible also says God is not like that at all.

"The Lord is very pitiful and of tender mercy." (JAS 5:11)
"For his mercy endureth forever." (1CH 16:34)
"The Lord is good to all, and his tender mercies are over all his works." (PSA 145:9)
    "God is love." (1JO 4:16)

It's usually not a good idea to quote scripture. The bible says so many things. For example, EXO 24:9,10; AMO 9:1; GEN 26:2; and JOH 14:9 say that God can be seen. So do the following:

"And I will take away my hand, and thou shalt see my backparts." (EXO 33:23)
"And the Lord spake to Moses face to face, as a man speaketh to his friend." (EXO 33:11)
"For I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved." (GEN 32:30)

But then the bible is also very clear that God CANNOT be seen:

"No man hath seen God at any time." (JOH 1:18)
"And he said, Thou canst not see my face; for there shall no man see me and live." (EXO 33:20)
"Whom no man hath seen nor can see." (1TIM 6:16)
  • S.H. · 9 months ago
    RitornaVincitor,

I'll let the Apostle Paul counter your assessment, based on 2 Timothy 3:16-17

16 - All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 - That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

I'll also let the prophet Isaiah's writing from God speak as well (Isaiah 8:20 & 51:4
8:20 - To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
51:4 - Hearken unto me, my people; and give ear unto me, O my nation: for a law shall proceed from me, and I will make my judgment to rest for a light of the people.

Jesus corroborates this in John 8:12 & 5:27
8:12 - Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
    5:26 - For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself;
5:27 - And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.

God is a God of spirit, truth (John 4:24), righteousness, judgment & (if He so chooses) mercy.... and as Psalms 119:160 tells us about God:

119:160 - Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever.

The scriptures I listed on my original comment were Exodus 22:16 (by God) & 1 Corinthians 7:36 (by the Apostle Paul, by way of the Spirit of God)
22:16 - And if a man entice a maid that is not betrothed, and lie with her, he shall surely endow her to be his wife.
7:36 - But if any man think that he behaveth himself uncomely toward his virgin, if she pass the flower of her age, and need so require, let him do what he will, he sinneth not: let them marry.

We have to be willing to fully repent of our past sins in order to teach our children that the verses above ARE the standard that we are supposed to live by..... that's all....
  • RitornaVincitor · 9 months ago
Well now, there you go. Is scripture really inspired? Saint Paul says all scripture is inspired in 2 Tim 3:16, but then he contradicts himself in 1 Corinthians 7:6, 1 Corinthians 7:12 and 2 Corinthians 11:17 where he says that some scripture is NOT inspired. That's the problem with the bible. Just about everything it says, it also contradicts. I mean, the bible starts off with the book of Genesis, which gives not one, but two different accounts of how God created the universe, and the two accounts disagree with each other. In one, Adam and Eve are created at the same time, and it is on a desolate Earth before plants and animals are created. In the other, Adam is created after the plants and animals, and Eve is later created out of his rib. And then it goes down hill from there. Just Google "Biblical contradictions" and you will get 227,000 hits, many of them long lists. I really don't see how anyone could say that scripture is inspired by God unless one decides that God's intention was to deliberately mislead and confuse us by constantly contradicting Himself. For example:

In 1 Corinthians 7:8-9 Paul says widows should not marry, but in 1Timothy 5:14 Paul says young widows should marry, bear children, rule the house.

In 2 Corinthians 12:16 Paul says that he uses trickery. But in 1Thessalonians 2:3 Paul says that he does NOT use trickery.

In Acts 5:29 Paul says to obey only God, not men. But in Romans 13:1-4, and 1 Peter 2:13-15 he says to obey the laws of men (i.e., government). It is the will of God.

Acts 9:7 says those present at Paul's conversion heard the voice but saw no one. But Acts 22:9 says they saw a light but did not hear a voice.

Acts 9:7 says those present at Paul's conversion stood. But Acts 26:14 says they fell to the ground.

Acts 9:19-28 says shortly after his conversion, Paul went to Damascus, then Jerusalem where he was introduced to the Apostles by Barnabas, and there spent some time with them (going in and out among them). But Galatians 1:15-20 says he made the trip three years later, then saw only Peter and James.

Acts 9:23 says the governor attempted to seize Paul. But 2 Corinthians 11:32 says it was the Jews who tried to seize Paul.

Acts 10:34, and Romans 2:11 Paul said God shows no partiality. He treats all alike. But in Romans 9:11-13 Paul said God hated Esau and loved Jacob even before their birth.

In 1Corinthians 10:33 Paul says that he tries to please men so they might be saved.
But in Galatians 1:10 Paul says he would not be a servant of Christ if he tried to please men.

As for Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, they don't even agree on the names of the 12 apostles (disciples). Matthew 10:2, and Mark 3:16-19 list a Thaddaeus aka. Labbaeus as one of the twelve. But Luke 6:13-16 and Acts 6:13 -16 don't mention him. Instead they list a Judas the son of James, not to be confused with Judas Iscariot. So the twelve apostles are actually thirteen, plus Mathias who later replaces Judas Iscariot. And there are completely different accounts about Judas Iscariot, how he betrayed Jesus, how he was paid and by whom, and how he killed himself.

Throughout the books of Matthew and Mark, Jesus deliberately speaks to the crowds only in parables so that they can not fully understand. He explains the full meaning only to his twelve disciples. But throughout the book of John, Jesus speaks very plainly to the crowds, and never employs the use of parables.

Matthew 2:13-16 says that following the birth of Jesus, Joseph and Mary fled to Egypt, (where they stay until after Herod's death) in order to avoid the murder of their firstborn by Herod. Herod slaughters all male infants two years old and under. (Note: John the Baptist, Jesus' cousin, though under two is somehow spared without fleeing to Egypt.) But Luke 2:22-40 says that following the birth of Jesus, Joseph and Mary remained in the area of Jerusalem for the Presentation (about forty days) and then return to Nazareth without ever going to Egypt. There is no slaughter of the infants.

Matthew 4:1-11, and Mark 1:12-13 say that immediately following his Baptism, Jesus spent forty days in the wilderness resisting temptation by the Devil. But John 2:1-11 says that three days after his Baptism, Jesus was at the wedding in Cana.

The four give differing accounts of Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem.
Matthew 21:1-17 Says the sequence was: triumphal entry, cleansing of the temple, Bethany.
Mark 11:1-19 says triumphal entry, cleansing of the temple.
Luke 19:28-48 says triumphal entry, cleansing of the temple, daily teaching in the temple.
John 12:1-18 says the cleansing of the temple took place early in Jesus' ministry, then much later came the supper with Lazarus followed by the triumphal entry, with no cleansing of the temple following the triumphal entry.

At the Last Supper, Matthew 26:26-29, and Mark 14:22-25 say the order of the communion was: bread first, then wine. But Luke 22:17-20 says it was: wine first, then bread.

When Jesus is tried before Pilate, Matthew 27:11-14 says that Jesus answered not a single charge. Matthew is very specific about this, says it twice, and says that Pilate was amazed that Jesus refused to answer his questions. But John 18:33-37 says that Jesus answered all the charges at his hearing before Pilate, and he specifically lists three of Jesus' lengthy answers in detail.

They give different versions of Christ's last words before dying on the cross.
Matthew 27:46-50, and Mark 15:34-37 say Jesus' last recorded words are: "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?"
Luke 23:46 says they were, "Father, into thy hands I commit my spirit."
John 19:30 says they were, "It is finished."

Matthew 27:28 says Jesus was given a scarlet robe (a sign of infamy).
Mark 15:17, and John 19:2 say Jesus was given a purple robe (a sign of royalty).

In fact, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John and Paul disagree with each other on hundreds of things, and sometimes disagree with themselves.

Paul also says that you shouldn't talk to non-believers, which would be me.

The Catholic Church is promoting a program here in NC that says EVERYONE must be celibate outside of marriage. And, since gays can't get married, they need to be celibate for their entire life. Alternately, gays could choose to go through the "pray the gay away" process and become straight. Then they could participate in sexual activity once they get married to an opposite sex partner.

I thought the way Sarah barged in on the interview, packing the grandkid like a football, was downright weird. She proceeded to dominate the conversation with all kinds of unintelligible 'bristol is so lucky to have family' mouth flapping.
the camera occasionally panned to Bristol who sat , blank faced, hiding any emotion, as mom comandeered everything. I thought it was contrived, awkward, and I felt embarrassed for everyone involved. Except for Sarah, who as usual, was tone deaf to any song but her own.

Was anyone else disturbed by the headline CNN used for this story? Listen to Bristol... she clearly believes abstinence is the preferred way to deal with the issue. And yes, she has a MUCH more realistic view of the situation than those who think its that simple.

But listen to her... she still prefers abstinence, and wants others to see her example and follow that path. If you watch and listen closely, I get the feeling she would still prefer abstinence-only education. I hope I am not putting words in her mouth, but I think that is exactly what reporters are doing by emphasizing a particular word in the interview that Bristol doesn't seem to be emphasizing at all with her message.
  • timncguy · 9 months ago
depends on what she meant. There is a BIG difference between promoting abstinence as a behavior and providing "abstinence ONLY" education with no discussion of safe practices for those who intend to be sexually active.

Bristol, I don't know about this blog, but I hope this somehow makes its way to you. And I know that you are probably being blogged by thousands of people. But I just wanted you to know how I feel, along with many, many others in Minnesota as well.

I just read the report about your interview with Greta today. I can only imagine the rotten coments you've had to put up with. One of your comments was that people don't understand, and you are right - many don't. But more than don't, do. Many of us have gone through something similar, and do know how hard it is, and admire you for doing what you are doing.

I don't like your Mom's politics, Bristol, but I want you to know that I am behind you all the way. I hope you and Levi make it, and have a great life together. I know from my own experience how hard that will be, and if you don't make it together as man and wife, I will pray that you make it together as Mom and Dad. You two have shown tremendous strength, and so have your parents.

Bristol, please don't lose sight of the fact that thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, even millions of us across America, from Alaska to Florida, and from Maine to California, do solidly support you, and do understand, even some of us Democrats. And the fools who have made your life more difficult with their words and actions are simply setting themselves up for their own troubles as a result of their attitude towards you and Levi.

Absolutely the best of luck to you and Levi and the baby, and all your loved ones who are with you, too. We will be rooting for you, regard- less of politics. Take care.

Like mother, like daughter. Wasn't Sarah pregnant before she got married?

So....anyone think that they are practicing abstinence now? Of course that's like shutting the barn door after the horses escape, but it does make you wonder.

    "It could happen to anybody..."

No, Sarah, it can only happen to people who fuck.

Boy, Palin was sure babeling on and on. No doubt very nervous and trying to do damage control. Pathetic.

Wow. What an unrepentant slut. I thought we may have had a Republican we could follow, and have defended her mother for months. This does it for me. The talentless slut, whose only claim to fame is being knocked up by her "fiance" takes the screen to say three things.....1. "Abstinance is unrealistic" ( I am going to do what I want to and there should be no real consequences...even though there are, I am breast feeding mine.), 2. "My son brings me so much joy I don't regret haivng him at all" (Look at me, I'm having fun, becasue my mother and father will help and the daddy "comes around" !), 3. "Levi sees his son everyday." (Really. If he wanted to marry you, he could have by now and certainly, if you and the boy were important why aren't you smart, realistic, joyful, adults living together and raising the kid together?) Let me guess, you are "living your life". Gutter snipe. We will see you next on Jerry Springer.

Then, the mother has to be in the interview to which is a tacit approval of what the girl just spouted off. Your dad, apparently is running another dog sled race. Guess he is "living his life" too. Good job, Mr. Palin!

Sorry, Palins, you are not doing this right and your glib invitation for the rest of us to understand it is insulting.

This is what happened. You failed. It doesn't need comment, explanation, excuses, insistence that it will be just fine, and it certainly does not need to be on prime time. You ignorant fools, do you think they ran the story because you are smart, or pretty, or talented? No, dumbass, the whole point of the story was to convince others to throw away reservations and go with the crowd. You have been used to smash traditional, and intelligent family values right in the mouth. Thanks. Here is an idea, since everything is going so great, spit out some more bastard puppies.....why not.? Grinding your sex organs together is "realistic". The human product of your lust, though a bother, is something to be proud of, and maybe the "baby daddy" will swing through because he is so proud of his kid and the mother.

Sarah Palin, don't bother running for anything outside of Alaska. Your stupid slut daughter getting knocked up is a thing that could happen to any of us. However, time has passed and the girl is still not married. You have accomodated her becaue the punk that scewed her is not going to marry her. You have escorted her to the prime time to be genuinely unrepentant....when we did not have to hear from her at all. You do not get it.
