    TWEAK!

Good news. Somebody has to control little boys with high powered rifles.

Coyotes have migrated from the mountains in NC to areas in the Piedmont, possibly in a hunt for food and water or that they were on the wrong side of whatever development was going on.

Of course, the first thought is to shoot them when the homeowner finds one in his backyard, never a thought that humans are invading their territory and driving them here.

Yes, this is good news, on the surface.
These magnificient animals are predators, not family type pets. They live in packs of around 8-10 animals and require a hunting territory that can be some 10-15 square miles. As a general rule, wolf packs do not intermingle with other packs. Keeping these animals confined to smaller areas can cause over breeding and instances of disease that can sweep through and destroy a pack.
So, what to do? I'm against the hunting of these animals as much as anyone, but at some point they out number their hunting areas and eco systems ability to feed them, thus they then become a problem as they migrate into areas occupied by humans. It's not the best situation for either species.
In order to keep the packs at a population number that will allow them to be successful some culling may have to occur.
It is not the best answer, but neither is having these animals over populate to where they destroy themselves. The U.S. doesn't have the vast tracts of unpopulated land to support the increasing number of packs and provide a healthy environment.
There is no good answer to this that will satisfy people and really protect the wolves.

Don't forget (according to the locals) these are Canadian gray's....much more fierce and dangerous then the American ones that used to roam there.

Good. The wolves were here before us- they 're entitled to a few sheep.
