From Watergate: "Just follow the money."
While we're at it, where are the investigations into the money sent to Blackwater, Haliburton, and others??

I commented on this this morning over on UM. The basic stance here seems to be that no, we can't tell you what we did with your money because if we did so, you'd know what banks were in serieous doo doo and you might be tenpted to remove your money from them. And we can't have that, can we?

This is complete bullshit. Obama must bring this to an end day 1. No more bailout money to anyone. Congress should exercise their authority to disapprove the bailout's next $350 billion or so.
By the way, all that suppoorted the bailout on this blog do you support this?
Also, enough with bailout, let's call a pig a pig. This is simply a raid on the US Treasury by greedy barbarians led by Paulson. US taxpayers should lynch Paulson, figuratively speaking, of course.
In addition to giving AIG an additional $40,000,000,000 of taxpayer dollars today, insult was added to injury when America Express and American Express Travel Related Services tonight became bank holding companies having their application approved by Treasury/FDIC in expedited fashion, thus, allowing these pigs to feed at the bailout trough.
Give me a fucking break.
I heard Halliburton, KBR and Blackwater will all soon be bank holding companies.
Then count on Liberty University, Bob Jones University and the Mormon church all becoming the first 501(c)(3) bank holding companies and thus eligible for bailout dough.
Also, do not be surpised if Exxon, the bankrupt shell that once was Enron, the Klu Klux Klan and the estate of Ken Lay become bank holding companies before 1/19/2009.
The freshly lynched corpse of Paulson's failed and corrupt ideas need to be put on public display for the buzzards to munch on their decaying flesh. Nevermore.

Sounds like the Bush folks are trying to give their friends some money before they leave office.

Why would anyone listen to the woman who spearheaded the credit default swap scheme, and why is she still working on Wall St.? If any of us devised something so shady that even cost our company thousands, we'd be fired. This woman's machinations is costing the world tens of trillions in possible losses and lead to a worldwide recession, but maybe it's OK with JPMorgan since they've made trillions themselves....
LONDON, Nov 5 (Reuters) - J.P. Morgan Chase & Co aims to join the top ranks in the commodities and energy business and is not pulling back from expansion plans despite the uncertain global economic outlook. "We are striving to be a top-tier commodity franchise globally," said Blythe Masters, head of the U.S. bank's global commodities business. "We've benefited from a flight to quality and are seeing market share gains," she told Reuters in an interview this week.

Whoa, wait a minute here. Two trillion in loans? If this is just keeping them afloat how will they ever pay it back?

As EdnSted pointed out, their argument may well be that "If we told you, you'd know which banks were in the most trouble, and that may start a panic". But it is counter-productive I think, as the BIGGEST problem is nobody trusts ANY institution, so they all stop lending each other money. It would be BETTER to identify the troubled ones, and let the consumer decide, and also it would imply the non-troubled ones were not tanking....HELPING to start cash/loans flowing again.
Secrecy is just knee-jerk for the GOP.

This current administration rests on the infirm foundations of duplicity, deceit and secrecy, tossing aside concepts of honesty, truth and transparency.

They're looting while the looting is good--just 70 days left to sink taxpayers into a morass of debt for generations to come. So little time, so much to pillage.

Oh, wait. It is your money. Boy, are YOU stupid! Hah!
Are any of us TRULY surprised that it's come to this?

So whats a taxpayer to do, continue to pay into a system that keeps defrauding him/her? Or revolt and walk with the other 999,999 people on to Washington DC??

A like the thought of cutting off tax flow to DC, not by taking income and refusing to pay taxes because this is illegal and not immediate, rather, by a lengthy nationwide strike of as many W-2 employees as possible for several months. a large enough strike easrly in the year before those making a ton exceed the cap will cut off the weekly flow of substantial employment tax dollars (billions).

I hardly think anyone would take several months off from work in order to protest, via their W-2's. its to indirect, and involves the organization you work for. Not paying your taxes on April 15th would be the most immediate civil disobedience move. If a million people stood up and said no more the grand heist, what could the IRS do? It would not have the capabilities to go after everyone?

This is illegal, but if enough participate then perhaps. The problem is it would take a while because most folks' income taxes are automatically withheld and paid over at payday to the government by their employer. You need an immediate cash cut off to the feds and cutting off the employment taxes at 15.3% (employee's share and employer's share of fica and the income tax withheld) of sdalary and whatever income taxes are withheld at pay day wrought by leave without pay would have an immediate impact.
