And the amazing thing is that has never been cheaper for Europeans to travel here.
Another economic factor - normally in weak dollar periods, foreigners are more likely to buy property in upscale parts of the US - New York, LA, Miami et al. Yet far fewer of those who might in a small way help a down real estate market want any part of us.

America has nothing the rest of the world wants or needs. They don't need our approach to security which is everyone is guilty and we have the right to arrest, seize and incarcerate at will. The dollar is in the tank. The flight from Europe is 6 hours in overly cramped, expensive planes staffed with rude, petulant flight attendants. There is no longer an attraction and until the Bush years are a distant memory foreign visitors will stay away and travel somewhere friendlier and less expensive.

Read or watch the video about Paramount Park's treatment of foreign student workers at the King's Island amusement park outside Cincinnati, Ohio...it's astonishing: http://www.wcpo.com/news/local/story.aspx?conte...
Instead of watching the vid, I recommend reading the story to bypass the irritating "reporters" with their emphasis on what they deem to be key words.
As for the story...I think this country is beyond saving.

Robert and I made our first trip to Europe last summer. While visiting the Eiffel Tower ther were school aged kids in their early teens who were singing to the tune of Queens's "We are the Champions" at a cam -corder to their friends: We are in Paris We are in Paris NOT IN AMERICA Yes, we are in Paris! Robert and I were at first stunned and then saddened. A Philadelphia restauranteur posts an " Speak English Only" sign in his business and don't think the world isn't watching. GLBT travelers and young people are a large share of the travel market and they have a choice when comming to the Americas...USA or Canada...I know where I'd spend my Euro! Dana Milbank from the Washington Post was lucky enough to get a seat at this weeks US Treasury conference given by the under secretary of the treasury. Talk about a real vote of confidence in the economy. This guy is about ready to crap in his pants. Nice to know everything is under control. Enjoy.....
No matter which country I was from (Switzerland to Syria), I would not risk coming to America. They throw people in jail and don't let them have a lawyer.
Well, if you were suicidal, and loved pain, I guess it would make sense to travel to America.

Don't forget to include us Expats as well. I used to go home twice a year, now I only go once every two years. And my wife, who isn't from the US, will only go with me every three years, or so. She feels humiliated whenever she goes through customs.
Before we were married, and she came with me to the States, the customs agent asked her who she was visiting. She said, "A friend". The agent asked her, "How do you know he is your friend?"

Who wants to wait hours for an under staffed customs crossing, have a STASI like interrogation, have your pocket and your car turned inside out, be made to give over your laptop password or maybe have it seized, or finding yourself being renditioned to Syria because your name sounds funny.

Americans' unhappy birthday: 'Too much wrong'
By PAULINE ARRILLAGA, AP National Writer 22 minutes ago
Even folks in the Optimist Club are having a tough time toeing an upbeat line these days. Eighteen members of the volunteer organization's Gilbert, Ariz., chapter have gathered, a few days before this nation's 232nd birthday, to focus on the positive: Their book drive for schoolchildren and an Independence Day project to place American flags along the streets of one neighborhood.
♥ (Gad, how I hate having every freaking thing having to reload, over and over.)
They may not be visiting, but they are buying up property faster than the Japanese did in the 80's.

Does anyone remember when we pointed out that the economy was tanking and the pollyanna low information voters on the right said "that's okay, all the forgeiners will come and spend money because everything costs less. . . we'll be fine!"
I know many from other countries who don't want to come here any more .... and some of it has to do with our airlines.

Why would anyone want to visit Bush's little fiefdom, risk imprisonment, beatins or being shot by our bigoted cops for having a foreign accent, not looking American, probably being accused of being gay or homosexual. Our customs officials now have even taken into custody a Columbian minister accusing her of being an enemy agent, interrogated and threatened her for hours before refusing her entry into this nation, despite her diplomatic credentials. The Bush administration has completely thrown out the window all pretense of civilization and civilized behavior.

Yeah, like it's really frowned upon in the US, being gay? What bubble do you live in; I've never seen anything like what you've described. Your comments are right out of the MoveOn/DNC playbook...

Doesn't surprise me one bit. My friends who live in Europe used to come here on vacations, to attend rock concerts when their favorite bands were on tour over here, etc. But since Chimpy took office - forget it. Their attitude is - quite rightly - why the hell should we go to America, get harassed upon entering and leaving the country - having people demanding to know who you are, where you are going, wanting to see an itinerary of every single place you are planning to go, deal with a society that's filled with gun nuts who are willing to shoot you over a pair of tennis shoes, police officers who act rude to you if they find out you are foreign, our shitty human rights record, the war, etc. Hell, if I wasn't actually living in this place - even I wouldn't come to visit it. You couldn't pay me to. And that's why I'm seriously looking to find a job, any job, overseas, so I can leave. Cause I'm fed up and disgusted with all of it.

They're flocking here to San Francisco in numbers like I've never seen before. I don't know about the rest of the country, but we treat our visitors well. Very seldom do we shoot them. Unless they need shootin' of course!

That is vey bad news. the dollar is so low that this is the perfect time to visit. So it must be that people are afraid of the way they might be treated.

We don't see much of a drop in off-shore tourist business here in Orlando, Florida. The British invasion continues unabated, many of them so happy to be here that they forget to go home, their visas expire, and they pretend they're in the Commonwealth so it doesn't really matter, does it? It makes a person wonder . . . something is very wrong in the U.K. that so many of the Brits forget to go home.
Meanwhile, affluent Brazilians and Japanese are welcome!

Who the hell would blame them for not coming. They don't know if they come here and happen to look at a person the wrong way they might get arrested or worse shot at. My european relatives don't understand why we have so many guns. Hell I don't sometimes. Well america better start thinking that maybe we aren't alway right.
