My God! A Republican with a soul! The mayor of Fairbanks Alaska just endorsed Obama! Maybe we can after all.
  • DonQ · 1 year ago
Great stuff, John - I love these shorts. And you're right: we shouldn't do business with these guys, especially when they don't keep their word. But I guess keeping your word isn't one of the ten commandments.

Why are they starting these speeches so fucking LATE??????

Goddamn it I just learned that Hilary will speak after 10pm. Don't they know that most hard-working people CAN NOT stay up that late? I stayed up til 11pm for Michelle's speech last night and overslept such that I had no time for a fucking shower or breakfast this morning, plus I had to pay for a cab to get to work on time. I can't do that again, so I guess I will have to miss ALL the big speeches at the rest of the fucking Democratic convention. I am steamed. I need to go to sleep at 9; I can stay up til 10 if it's something special; 11pm is out of the question unless it's worth getting into major trouble at work.

Am I the only one who is pissed as hell at how they are doing everything significant so bloody LATE at night???
  • Fireblazes(CheetohsandCatfood) · 1 year ago
Really, here in the Mountain time zone it all ends just after nine. It is so nice to have events on our schedule as opposed to New York time. Record it or watch it tomorrow.
  • ShirleyGoodnessanMercy · 1 year ago
Thanks but I have no way to record it or watch it tomorrow. I'm glad to know it's not keeping Mountain Zone residents up late, though.

    splice it. anything but pundits.
  • Fireblazes(CheetohsandCatfood) · 1 year ago
No we in the west are in charge of this election, didn't you get the memo?
  • dad · 1 year ago
i think we just need to be nice to them more.

this convention is in SERIOUS trouble.
it is not playing well at all.

i just hope hillary is comfortable with her loss.
i just hope her supporters will be OK.

    economy. foreign policy. leadership.
    anyone?
  • ShirleyGoodnessanMercy · 1 year ago
No one at my work place is watching the convention, even though almost all my coworkers are black and pro-Obama. This puzzles me.
  • dad · 1 year ago
    the aren't missing much

I thought both Ted Kennedy and Michelle Obama last night were both sublime, historic, and wonderful.
  • dad · 1 year ago
    Ted and Michelle were great.
Though I did not catch Michelle live. Too late.
The first two hours were dead, lost air.

    the economy. foreign policy. leadership.
where's the message? where's the vision?
    where's the fight?
  • Fireblazes(CheetohsandCatfood) · 1 year ago
I think it is all happening, but a lot of people would have this convention be solely about McC, a 3 day attack on him. But if it is all about him, where does our message come in. I think you have to tell what you are going to do. Todays convention has been putting forth Obama's vision and policies. Overdoing the attacks will only backfire. Besides the news boils it down to 3 or 4 30 second sound bites. The first I heard was Obama's daughter asking where he was. 8 hours of convention and thats all America gets.
  • dad · 1 year ago
hillary coddling. that's all America gets.

i hope tonight turns out to be different. or maybe tomorrow night, maybe after bill. that leaves thursday. here's hoping for a big close.

oh, and fight, message and vision are not the same as attacks.
attacks, direct and ruthless, you'll see next week.
  • Fireblazes(CheetohsandCatfood) · 1 year ago
I agree, next week we kick ass and take names. I think the keynote address will start things off. I hope Hillary will go for the throat. Bill too. All incredible speakers, in need of channeling their anger at McCain and his McCminions.
  • Fireblazes(CheetohsandCatfood) · 1 year ago
How is the convention in SERIOUS trouble? Nobody was a bigger HRC supporter than me (fireblazes). But it is time to move on , if they are not on board now, I doubt that anything will change. It is time to stop enabling them. Hillary is on board, what more do they need. If they, Zeus forbid, help McCpow-dude get elected they deserve the coming cataclysm. We don't but they will.
  • mmedefarge · 1 year ago
I am surprised Barack has been courting the fundies. Ultimately their support will be like that of that "minister" today--they just won't show up when it is timel

I was surprised to see a local event on the campaign website billed as a "prayer meeting", using a lot of the fundy vocab to describe it. Having been raised as a Catholic during the most authoritarian phase of that church, I am extremely grateful that we have separation of church and state. So I flagged the meeting as having objectionable content. A week later, same group, another prayer meeting. So I flagged it again. When I realized that these folks weren.t going away I called the campaign, and apparently the web site is a "grass roots" thing and anyone who wants to can support Barack in any way, per the nice young campaign worker I spoke with. If that is so, why do they have the "report objectionable content" flag? To me, repressive religion is more obscene than any four letter word.

Any involvement of a church in a political campaign violates separation of church and state. They can pray for whatever they want, but it should not intrude into the campaign. I hope that the campaign will really take a look at this

I am sick of Dem's giving any creedence to bible humping evangelical creationist idiots.
  • bish8 · 1 year ago
I have bee listening to the speeches for some time and I hear speaker after speaker mentioned the middle class. Has any speaker mentioned the poor yet?
  • mmedefarge · 1 year ago
I noticed that, too. i think it is because the middle class IS poor. so rather than all being poor, we can all be middle class! Sounds better, n'est-ce pas?
  • ShirleyGoodnessanMercy · 1 year ago
No American politician has mentioned the poor since 1969. That would be communism don't you know.

(Cue Bill O'Reilly screaming about class warfare.)

Actually I guess John Edwards mentioned the poor. So he was our token commie.

    I think you are right.

As a gay man I'm sick to f*ckin death of having Obama and others in my party continually kissing the ass of fundamentalists and trying to attract them by throwing me and my brothers and sisters (one of the MOST loyal constituencies of the Democratic Party) under the bus.

Fuck Rick Warren, Fuck Saddleback church and Fuck trying to kiss the ass of people who wouldn't vote for a Democrat if Jesus himself came down and commanded it.

Even if we could bring them over to vote for Obama there would be no way to keep them without totally screwing over two of the most loyal constituencies of the party; women and GLBT people.
  • devis1 · 1 year ago
    Amen.
  • ShirleyGoodnessanMercy · 1 year ago
This is`why the 2-party system doesn't work as well as a parliamentary system does, where politicians have balls and speak their minds.
  • Fireblazes(CheetohsandCatfood) · 1 year ago
It is so nice to communicate pleasantly with you all. I was so tired of being attacked and threatened. Not that I am completely innocent but still it is nice. I do apologize if I ever was mean or nasty to any of you.

Hillary comes on at 10:30 et
  • Fireblazes(CheetohsandCatfood) · 1 year ago
A lot of the trouble is that if you do not watch it all, you miss the policy presentations. All this is being done by normal people, or relatively unknown politicians. So people have a tendency to tune them out or leave the room. People really do like celebrities to tell them things, as though they have more gravitas.
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
Jane just doesn't seem like a a "player". She's likeable; but, with only a negative message...
  • lucycph · 1 year ago
I dropped by a "local" Obama headquarters today. Nothing to put on the lawn, no Tshirts, buttons, and how hard is that? Bad location. and located in one of the Midwest's, OK hell this is no secret Madison WI COMMON! How hard is it to get a tad grass roots....break out the presses....do it on your own if the DNC cannot it's act together....at least try to make it look good. INFing credible. I thought only the Repukelican party was OOOOOLLLLDDD!!
  • bish8 · 1 year ago
I was at the Minnesota State Fair yesterday and the card table for Obama was out of buttons. Woopie! A whole card table for Obama. I was very disappointed.

Sorry. Watching LIVE. I cannot relate.

Obama's acting like he's got this thing sewn up, but this attempt to court other votes with a more 'centrist' or 'hateful' message is going to turn off what should be his rock solid base.
As a gay married couple, my husband is not voting for him and I'm 'this close' to voting a straight Green ticket.
  • jr · 1 year ago
    I love the short interviews

The thing about evangelicals is that they seem to firmly believe their religion gives them the right to screw everyone else. Now if the Obama campaign had offered to pay ... then maybe he would have shown up.
