AMERICAblog: Foreign Policy Dementia

  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
"But! B-b-but! He's a poor, tortured POW, whose poor broken body was returned on a stretcher to an ungrateful hippie-filled nation that spat on brave warriors! No one can know the untold torment endured by this brave and stoic hero, who so humbly refuses to talk about his hellish existence... (lather-rinse-repeat)."

This was what excused McCain's foreign policy "gaffes" three months ago. Will it still work?

What a moron, he deserves to be mocked....but hey it is nice to know that, using the McCain/Palin campaign's logic, a mistake like this would never occur with Obama and Biden. I mean Biden has extensive experience with Spain since Delaware shares a Latitude line with them. and is just across the Atlantic
  • brb915 · 1 year ago
To have all those mistakes condensed into a paragraph is stark. Who's gonna email the moderator of the debates and dare them to ask this?
  • Slim Cognito · 1 year ago
Somebody should try to track down what time of day these gaffes are occurring. I've watched some of his early-in-the-day speeches and McCain does fine then. I have no clue what time of day these mistakes are made. I'm not a doctor but I do work with the elderly. There is a phenomenon called sundowning. It's often the first sign of dementia. In a nutshell, the later in the day, the more trouble these patients have with cognition and I have patients younger then McCain. Somebody can be completely coherent when they wake up and by 3 or 4 in the afternoon they've slowed considerably. By evening, well, you can imagine.

The CIA World Factbook refers to Zapatero as "President of the Government" of Spain, at title it describes as "equivalent" to the position of prime minister.

Zapatero is the president of the "government" (which in parliamentary systems means the executive, i.e., the cabinet). "Prime minister" is a British term that has no use or direct translation in other languages. The French term "premier" is much more used and recognized, but that's not the name of the office in Spain. "President" seems to be the correct way to address the Spanish PM.

People who support McPain and Palin, don't realize how dangerous it would be to have these two unsuitable people in the WH. He has been lying, and changing his positions almost daily, and makes gaffes after gaffes. She is totally ignorant about national issues, and as Sen. Hagel says, it is a far stretch to think she can be Vice President. What is wrong with these people? Putting party ahead of the country, is really, really dumb, and dangerous.

If McCain could see Spain from one of his siete casas he would be a foreign policy expert just like his happy candy bar queen running mate.

Let's just hope nothing happens in Slovakia. Or the Czech Republic. Or Macedonia. Or LIthuania. Or Estonia. Or Bosnia. Or . . . omigaud! The mind boggles! Let's agree not to ask him about the Dalai Lama's role in negotiating with China and the United Nations for the proposed Autonomous Himalayan Biosphere that would include Tibet.

Has anyone noticed the inherent racism in McCain's inability to recognize that Spain and Zapatero is a NATO ally? I mean, he probably immediately recognized the as sounding like those evil illegal immigrant terrorists who he hates. Not only is he senile, but also a racist bigot who will divide the world into "them" and "us" depending on whether he likes the sound of their names and if he thinks they are WASPs or damned infidel terrorists.
  • LeftCoastOracle · 1 year ago
I would suggest that McCain gets a pass because the press a) don't recognize senile dementia when they see it, b) are uncomfortable talking about issues of aging - I mean, we're all doing it, c) they're still in the tank for McCain.

    Personally I like "a."

Whilst taking me and others to task about your use of the term "president" please consider that the correct use of the term is "presidente" in quotation marks. When you translate the correct term would have to be prime minister.
