AMERICAblog: Former Clinton ambassador, Bill Richardson, to endorse Obama

  • Nigel Elliott · 1 year ago
Good Friday is not a good photogenic day for Bill Clinton.
  • Rustyzipper · 1 year ago
So much for the Superbowl party..... Way to go BR, Bravo, just with he did this before Texas.
  • BorninUSA · 1 year ago
If John Edwards would just do the same. Why hasn't Edwards endorsed anyone? He was my man and would really like to know who he supports.
  • Deacon_Blues · 1 year ago
Maybe Edwards is wrangling for a place on the ticket? Obama/Edwards would kick ass, I think.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
    I agree--totally.
  • BorninUSA · 1 year ago
Sounds like a winner to me.
  • Zach W. · 1 year ago
I think it'd be more likely to see Obama pick someone like Richardson, since Richardson would provide nice balance to the ticket with his extensive executive and foreign affairs experience.
  • kladinvt · 1 year ago
Definitely, Obama/Richardson....with Edwards as the Attorney General!

Finally, after the speculation. Oh well, Bubba's in Charlotte today to pry some bucks from the wheelers and dealers (aka bankers). Typical fundraising day, after all.
  • SarainKC · 1 year ago
Can't help notice the irony. Fund-raising on Good Friday. Is someone trying to rise from the dead?
  • 1billinnj2 · 1 year ago
good for richardson, i hope edwards does the same thing. hillary will still do anything to win. al gore will be a triple and hillary quitting will be a home run.

We are seeing again and again that the major people closest to both candidates, are opting for Obama. They've been up close and personal with both, so they have much better insight into who is the most authentic; who has the superior character; and who's most likely to exhibit sound judgment. BR is a Super D, and I'm sure will bring more along.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
Reported on MSNBC that Condi Rice will be "looking into" the breach of Obama's passport.

Of course probably nothing will be done by that incompetent.

i have been waiting on some "leaders" in the party to step forward and speak out.
I think this took guts on Bill's part....
and he should keep the beard...even when he is Vice President!

now, the next one who should step up is John Edwards to slam the nail in the coffin of the old politics!

    Maybe right before North Carolina?

    Governor Richardson endorses Barack Obama
After a week from hell, Barack Obama has pulled off a great coup. Bill Richardson, the Governor of New Mexico a super delegate and a former Presidential candidate has endorsed Senator Obama. Richardson, a Latino and a former Secretary of Energy in Bill Clinton's Administration said he is endorsing Obama to unite the party and hopefully put an end to divisiveness. This speaks volumes for Richardson for endorsing a candidate who was being beaten up by the media and right wing conservatives. To take a stand under these circumstances is courageous and admirable.

This is also a major blow to Senator Hillary Clinton as Bill Richardson was considered close to Clintons and Hillary was wooing for his endorsement. Is this going to be the start of a major move by super delegates to throw their lot in with the front runner? We have to wait and see. But if it is, this may be the beginning of the end for Hillary Clinton.

The beginning of the end was on Super Tuesday, unless you're talking about the illusion that her campaign has been running on. MI & FL have torn down the curtain on that illusion so Richardson is probably feeling a big relief by finally being able to come out and support the candidate he has always wanted to support.

    Bill said this:

We are blessed to have two great American leaders and great Democrats running for President. My affection and admiration for Hillary Clinton and President Bill Clinton will never waver. It is time, however, for Democrats to stop fighting amongst ourselves and to prepare for the tough fight we will face against John McCain in the fall. The 1990's were a decade of peace and prosperity because of the competent and enlightened leadership of the Clinton administration, but it is now time for a new generation of leadership to lead America forward. Barack Obama will be a historic and a great President, who can bring us the change we so desperately need by bringing us together as a nation here at home and with our allies abroad.

Earlier this week, Senator Barack Obama gave an historic speech. that addressed the issue of race with the eloquence, sincerity, and optimism we have come to expect of him. He inspired us by reminding us of the awesome potential residing in our own responsibility. He asked us to rise above our racially divided past, and to seize the opportunity to carry forward the work of many patriots of all races, who struggled and died to bring us together.

As a Hispanic, I was particularly touched by his words. I have been troubled by the demonization of immigrants--specifically Hispanics-- by too many in this country. Hate crimes against Hispanics are rising as a direct result and now, in tough economic times, people look for scapegoats and I fear that people will continue to exploit our racial differences--and place blame on others not like them . We all know the real culprit -- the disastrous economic policies of the Bush Administration!

I guess I must risk the emnity of many by pointing out that the "demonization of immigrants" as you put it is caused mainly by the unfortunate generalization that combines two separate issues that are and should be kept separate into one pot. I mean of course 1. immigrants and 2. illegal aliens. Immigrants are those who have come to the US from any country legally and with the desire to become citizens and abide by the law. Illegal aliens are those coming from any country, who have entered the US contrary to the established laws for whatever nefarious purposes. It has been my observation that groups favoring shall we say more liberal immigration policies, such as La Raza, do their cause a great disservice by confounding these two categories. The media do the same disservice by the same means.
Just to make clear my own opinion on the issue, I am in favor of immigration legally by any people of whatever color or religion, from whatever country. Illegal aliens, on the other hand, again on the same basis of anyone of any color or religion, from any country, should be sought out and deported.

    That's really just stupid.

    A. We are not going to round up 10 million people, load them into trucks and toss them in the ocean or dump them in the desert in northern Mexico. It's just not going to happen. Get over it.

    B. The economy would collapse even further than it is now. Those so-called "illegal" immigrants perform a very vital role in the lower end of the economy. If you're willing to come to the desert of southern California and pick vegetables in the 115-degree sun, just hop on a bus.

I don't agree that Obama/Richardson will be a great ticket. An African American and a Hispanic, the right wingers will have a field day. This is not to say that Richardson will not be a fabulous Veep. Personaliy I think he waited so long to see if Hillary could win as he would have been an ideal Veep candidate for her but seeing that there is no chance of that he decided to endorse Obama at a difficult time for Obama, which is indeed courageous.

To my mind Obama/Senator Hagel would make a kick ass Democratic ticket. Imagine Hagel, an angry Republican debating against the Republican Veep nominee and kicking his ass for all the lies Republicans told about Iraq war. To top it all, appoint Joe Biden as Secretary of State and what a powerful team that will make.

I guess this endorsement should put to rest the fact that race is not a major component of this run for president. Richardson made that clear in his speech that he feels Obama can help Hispanics etc after his race speech the otther day.
