Great Ad. Democrats need to make 10 more just as effective. Also where are the Democratic 527s? They need 527s to throw some mud on McCain and let some of it stick. 527s need to Peel those core McCain supporters away from having interest in supporting their candidate and the GOP in general. Smart democrats needed to form 527s!

Does it bother you that the ad edits the response of McCain to leave out the phrase "as long as US soldiers are not being harmed or killed"? This is is a lie, and it gives the right license to edit speeches by Obama to twist what he says into whatever they want. Will you complain then, or will that be ok too?

Remember, the perception of time's passage seems faster with increased chronological age. 100 years, to a tumor-packed geezer like McStain, might not seem like much...Too bad we send time-stretched children to fight our wars.
Heck of a surge. McSame wants 100 more years of this. Last throes. Turning a corner. Rah rah rah immoral war. Rah rah rah occupation. Heck of a surge.

Both his sons are fighting there. He is the only person in congress with children in the war.

I am becomming more of a McCain supporter every day. I never used to like him, but more and more he is the lesser of three evils. Deceptive ads like this where his response is edited to distort the truth only serve to alienate more people.

Face it bulldog, the corporate media and the right wing have been even MORE deceptive for the last 8 years. And with much more dire consequences.
The question really is this-what does McCain believe? You cannot get a firm answer from him on any issue! Really astounding, so what is his position on Iraq? Big question. Maybe Obama will be able to pin him down in a debate, because it is not at all clear at this point.

I watched that video. It really shows a fairly consistant response from McCain. He is oppossed to a large presence but thinks a smaler number in a support role for a long period of time will probably be required, like Bosnia. He doesn't know for how long this would be required (who could?) but thinks eventually we would completely withdraw. It is a mistake to think this man knows nothing about the military, he was in the Navy for 22 years and in the Senate for 25 years. What is Obama's position ? I have heard several, and since he has no military experience and only 3 years in the Senate, it's hard to say he is an expert on the subject.

bulldog909: "Deceptive ads like this where his response is edited to distort the truth"
Can you please specify exactly what was edited? I watched the whole McCain Q&A several times and it's exactly what he said. I don't understand what the alternative interpretation of his remarks is. The RNC is even claiming "he never said it". Again, what was edited?

He said "as long as US soldiers are not being harmed or killed". Not including that implies he is ok with the status quo, it changes the whole meaning of what he was saying, which was refering to an 'after the war is over' scenario.

I don't want McBush as our next president. I want Obama as our next president, even though he has not stated that he will get us out of Iraq immediately and completely. He's just being paid less by corporate military interests than Hillary (last time I checked).
With that said, I have had trouble with this whole 100 year thing for a while. I can't stand McCain, but his 100 year gaffe was him trying to compare Iraq to our long-term military presence in Korea and other countries. But everyone jumped on the 100 years quote like hungry tigers, while few people have addressed his actual mistake, which was trying to compare a long-term presence in Iraq to our other foreign military bases. Iraq was strategic to the neocons. They want to control the Middle East and it is the best place to start. That's why our embassy is bigger than the Vatican. That's why we are building so many permanent bases over there. McCain has been hijacked by the neocon agenda, and intends to carry it out, which includes expanding American aggression into Iran and Syria. To me, THAT is much more critical. But it's a little bit harder to capture in a 30-second sound byte.
You can also watch his speech on Iraq and national security in Fayetteville, great speech....he is correct in his comprehension of foreign affairs. Diplomacy is needed now more than ever.

McCain's pont is that if it okay to stay in Germany for now going on sixty-five years, and to maintain troops all over the world since World War II, then it makes sense to maintain a presence in Iraq after the fighting is under control. One of his points being that the objectionable thing is not our presence, but us taking casualties. That makes perfect sense to me. Where's the beef? If you oppose McCain on this point, why aren't you calling for withdrawal from Germany, Europe etc. At least be consistent, otherwise you just sound shrill . . . and dumb.

McCains OTHER point was, that a Muslim country will NEVER accept us. We will be fighting them the whole time we are there stealing their natural resources. I agree with the McCain of 2005. Not the McCain of 2008.
He has caved to the neo con agenda, as well as the radical Christian right agenda. What does he really think?
Who the hell knows.

I wonder why all the calls (mostly from gop lemmings) for this ad being deceptive and a lie? These are old and senile mccain's own words... Are you people afraid of the truth?

He said it, he's backed it up in multiple interviews, so why should the RNC be mad about an ad that quotes him on it? The truly insidious negative ad is the one the North Carolina Republic Party is pushing linking Obama to Wright. While the McCain ad focuses on McCain's actual stance on a critical issue, the anti-Obama ad focuses on an acquaintance Obama has actively disavowed, in an attempt to link him to an ideology that is clearly not his instead of focusing on the issues he is fighting for.
Full disclosure...I work for the website (The Point) that this campaign is hosted on. But this campaign is an important precedent for how ordinary people can begin to hold the media accountable for its role in this kind of classless mudslinging that delegitimizes our national elections.
