AMERICAblog: FOX VP: Race-baiting hoax means McCain's quest for the presidency "is over"

  • SCLiberal · 1 year ago
Like John Wilkes Booth, these people do more to harm their own causes than any outsider possibly could.
    Let 'em keep talking.
  • kladinvt · 1 year ago
Stick a fork in em, they're DONE!
  • HereinDC · 1 year ago
"If the incident turns out to be a hoax, Senator McCain’s quest for the presidency is over, forever linked to race-baiting."

Oh, I thought he was talking about the South Carolina ad that McCain fathered a black child.

    wink wink
  • nicho · 1 year ago
Ashley is scum, but don't let them lay this at her feet. The McCain campaign has been about nothing BUT race baiting since Day 1. Ashley was just following the lead she saw at the very top of the ticket, all the way down.

And by the way, TPM is reporting that Charles Fried, one of McCain's campaign advisers, just endorsed Obama -- ROFLOL.
  • scottinsf · 1 year ago
Ashley kind of fucked it up for McCain.
  • Forty2 · 1 year ago
    John Moody: Drama Queen.

It reflects badly on their campaign, sure, but the Straight Talk Express is quite capable of crashing and burning on its own, thank you very much.
  • TPierce · 1 year ago
I don't think it does anything to the campaign except serve as a sample of the kind of people and commentators the campaign attracts. Unless it turns out that McCain or his top advisors okayed this stunt, this is just the work of one screwed up woman who couldn't even come up with a story that could take a decent amount of overnight scrutiny from the cops--who have done their job well.

If it could be proved to be a McCain-supported tactic, it WOULD be game over, but while he's erratic, absent-minded, clutching at shadows, and fatally out of touch, he's not this stupid. Not yet.
  • scottinsf · 1 year ago
A "sample"?!? You've got to be kidding me.
  • TPierce · 1 year ago
Yes, a sample. A sample as in, a small selected portion. I wasn't specific; I'm sorry. I didn't mean to imply everyone attracted by his campaign is like this.

What do the Republican Party, John McCain, and the Titanic have in commom: A view from the bottom!!
  • MyVoice · 1 year ago
Funny that the right wing blogs do not condemn the actions. But the twitter crowd is twittering the site of lift08 which is the group she belongs too. This is the group she belongs to http://lifeinthefield.com/ they have not posted an apology yet.
  • michaelt · 1 year ago
this is the new strategy. give up. everyone will feel sorry for him and vote mccain while all the obama supporters will slack off and not vote.

we're right where he wants us.
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
I hope someone other than Fox is investigating this.
  • Older_Wiser · 1 year ago
Coming from Moody, that's just ass-covering.

And remember, a young 14 yr old boy, Emmett Till, lost his life because a racist white slut told a lie, too.
  • HereinDC · 1 year ago
    Excellent point.
  • Older_Wiser · 1 year ago
And the South Boston incident is recent enough for many to remember. But isn't it funny how the rightwing nuts always bring up Tawana Brawley, though, and never bother to mention the many, many incidents where blacks only had to be accused by a white to be found guilty, never mind evidence of a crime.
  • samiinh · 1 year ago
    Remember "To KILL A MOCKINGBIRD".
  • David_in_Toronto · 1 year ago
Going on out a limb here, but it seems pretty unlikely that this was a well thought out plan from the campaign.

If anybody else had been involved, they probably would have done a better job.

As much as I'd love to blame this on McCain, it really looks like an unstable teenager/ twenty year old who wanted attention.
  • scottinsf · 1 year ago
It's the resounding silence from the McCain campaign about this that grabs my attention.

Crawl out on your limb now.
  • Older_Wiser · 1 year ago
It may have been unlikely that the McBush campaign conceived this horrendous lie, but you have to admit that racism creeped into the campaign since Palin, who pals around with white supremecists and even sleeps with them(AIP, a thinly veiled WS org), started her assaults on Obama's character, with the code words racists in particular understand.

    Give them an inch...

Governor Richardson was at an Obama rally in NM. There was a repub carrying a sign that said "Governor richardson lied to me. He is LIEING to you"

This woman carved a backwards B on her own face. When she should have carved an O.
Repubs have seriously mutated into another dumber species.
  • Older_Wiser · 1 year ago
Like the picture of wingnuts with the "Joe the Plummer" sign...

Just goes to show that while this may fly in "Pro-American" parts of the country. It won't in Liberal Anti-American places like the Elite Northeast.

We actually care if you're making s--t up.
  • Older_Wiser · 1 year ago
What about the guy (Charles Stuart) who killed his wife in Boston, was it, and blamed it on blacks? Hmmm? Come on, no part of the country is free of racism. Or the white woman in Hartford CT who in 2007 accused a black man of rape?

    CAMPAIGN AD ALERT!!

George Bush made his choice for his successor. John McCain.

    Spice this up.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
Fox News and Matt Drudge both tried to turn this into a Winning McCain Strategy.

McCain and Palin both also called the "victim," which makes me wonder if the campaign was behind it.
  • PAULinDC · 1 year ago
You should see the poor McCain campaign HQ workers here in Crystal City ... I think that even the ones that didn't smoke DO now. It's perhaps strangely relevant that, for months, the campaign workers simply have not patronized a Korean-owned small business that is mere steps from the campaign HQ. I LOVE the coffee there in the morning. But, always, you see the McCain folks strolling back from Starbucks. I know that it's the free market in action, but the owner of the Korean place said she gets NO business from the McCain folks. That's not exactly true, as the campaign HQ security guard seems to be the only one from that direction who spends his money there.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    Not a shock.

    Repubs hate immigrants.

At least ones who came after 1900 or so.
  • samiinh · 1 year ago
Was Joe the Plumber a plant too?
  • PAULinDC · 1 year ago
I don't think any of them are plants, but there seems to be a phenomenon that plagues the rudderless ship that is the McCain campaign: the lack of substance and integrity of the campaign play on peoples' base thoughts and fears, which emboldens tax dodgers like Joe and miscreants like Ashley to act or speak as a sort of everyperson who is emblematic of the party's platform. Then, the campaign and their talking head enablers latch on to the populist everyperson schtick. It's a circular, directionless process ... a self-licking ice cream cone. No vision ... no hopeful message ... zippy.
  • Eyeball_Kid · 1 year ago
I heard a report that the Republican Party contacted "Joe the Plumber" about three weeks before Obama's appearance, ASKING him to attend the function.

And a few hours ago, our friend Ashley Todd ADMITTED that she created a hoax. Well done, Ashley. Thanks for the help.

    http://www.opednews.com/articles/Attack-on-McCa...

Bloggers turned over stones everywhere in her past to look for clues as to whether this story might be real or be a hoax. The following quote was found on her Myspace.com page: "Lying is the most fun a girl can have without taking her cloths off, but its better if you do."

(I did a copy and paste, she misspelled "clothes" as "cloths". I don't want to take credit for anyones mispelling, except my own. lol)
  • JustAnOldLady · 1 year ago
Here's the best part.....the police were skeptical of her story because the "B" scratched on her face was BACKWARDS!!!!!! The "victim" was a McCain volunteer.........just proves how STUPID these Republicans are.............
  • houstonray · 1 year ago
    Stupid...AND desperate!
  • Hardy_Haberman · 1 year ago
That was indeed a hoax and I would say Race Baiting waqs the last "hail Mary" McCain had.
  • Mark217 · 1 year ago
I have a very strong hunch that other people will be arrested in this hoax.
  • Older_Wiser · 1 year ago
I really think that the McBush campaign is in such disarray it will never recover. The only thing Obama supporters have to do much of at this point is VOTE--and don't get complacent about it.

It's just proof that McBush/Palin are total incompetents, that McBush has skated by for 30 yrs now in the Senate on his "war hero" meme with nothing of substance to back up his presidential run, and Palin is trying to position herself for a "Christianist" run in 2012, testing the waters before trying to walk on them...
  • Dave of the Jungle · 1 year ago
I call on Senator McCain to concede the election, without delay.
  • lutton · 1 year ago
You know what...via John Cole, a reminder that Joe McCain called 911 to bitch about traffic. I think that's way more relevant than what one unvetted campaign volunteer did...

I may be alone here, but I wonder if it will have much impact.

    Who will care?

Does anybody who can be swayed really expect anything better of Republicans?

I hope it closes the sale, I am just not confident.

Seems to me the sale is closed anyhow.
  • nsr · 1 year ago
Well, linked to race-baiting, terrorist-baiting, physical decreptitude...the most memorable thing about McCain's campaign will be its sheer incompetence. People are going to look at that six-week slide in the polls after the convention as an achievement of monumental ineptitude.
  • cupofjs · 1 year ago
Everyone should write and congratuate FOX for this reporting scoop on the anti-Obama hate attack as a lie, and it being an unadulterated attack on Obama supporters.. I know this sounds rediculous, but viewership always proceeds sponsership. and no complaints from "regular Viewers" means everyone loves our content.
Everyone should respond with a positive comment on their handling of this incident. Make no negative, Inflamatory of even suggestive comments. Remember you can attract nore flies with honey, than vinegar.
We need all the help we can get, even if it may not 100%.
  • stephenl · 1 year ago
Anybody think there's a link between this incident and McCain camp's announcement last week that they were concentrating on Pennsylvania? I know the McCain campaign has covered itself in slime more than the Creature From The Black Lagoon, so I wouldn't rule it out. Then again, one should never attribute to mailice what can best be explained by stupidity.
  • cole3244 · 1 year ago
i wonder if and when it will be revealed that she was put up to this, or at the least this was suggested to her as a way to help the mccain campaign.
