AMERICAblog: Freaky water slide video

    FAKE!
  • Montiel · 4 months ago
Dkarma - probably is; but its such a good fake its still fun to watch! Chances of it being real are pretty slim.

The Comcast crew were asking the question whether it was fake or real. I think it's fake. I can't imagine that fellow doing all the test jumps just to get the distance right. Even if they use an object similar to his weight, they would have to imitate his aerodynamics, and speed to even come close. There is also a split second in time where they are waiting for him to stand up in the pool. I think "glee" that was being shown was a bit artificial as though they needed to keep pretending they were real excited at the accomplishment. I say nice job, but, fake.

I would wager fake. Every picture tells a lie.

Funny enough, a few techie sites had this a few days ago..it's been revealed to be an ad for Microsoft Office.

What the hell did they pour on that surface? They must have had that special lubricant Clark Griswald used to go sledding. I would have been VERY afraid of going off the yellow thing 3/4s the way down.

It would have been much funnier with Jerry Falwell coming down the slide. Especially if someone moved the catch pool just as he started down.
  • Butch1 · 4 months ago
At his present stage of being, we would have been picking up the parts.
  • RitornaVincitor · 4 months ago
I know. Now THAT would be funny!

I was going to say possibly CGI, but the same video on the original website is preceded by the performer testing and calculating the jump.

That was some seriously impressive engineering.

For some reason, this made me think of the old Rocky and Bullwinkle intro.

    Never mind...

That made me think of this:

The whole article is worth reading. Funny and scary at the same time.

    good ballistics calculations....
    impressive, but still freaking crazy
  • JD · 4 months ago
I bet you believed that viral ad purporting to show Bruce Lee beating pingpong pros with a set of nunchucks too.
  • justadood · 4 months ago
    never saw it...don't care, either.
  • JD · 4 months ago
FYI, for a top-level reply in a comment thread, "you" generally refers to the author of the original blog post.

been bloggin log enough to understand that... Even though the vid was a fake, it still didn't warrant 'beating' on John like everybody did. I'm a sort who just likes to be entertained sometimes....and this vid was pretty entertaining--too bad it was a M$ vid...
  • SkippyFlipjack · 4 months ago
if you think the tame comments in this thread amount to "beating" on john or anyone else, you obviously haven't been blogging very long :)
  • jurassicpork · 4 months ago
jurassicpork, this is not the place for your personal issues on your personal blog.

A couple years ago I wouldn't have thought twice about accepting this as real, but these days it's pretty clearly a fake. The filmed act that seems almost impossible, the shaky-but-perfect camera work (close up of players, wide-angle establishing shot, following the action, close-up on reaction..), the cheap-but-expensive staging (look at the size of the tub -- how did they drag that thing down there?), the looks-like-they're-acting congratulations, etc. You're simultaneously thinking "wow that's amazing" and "something doesn't feel right."

I thought bloggers are supposed to be skeptics of big media? ;)

Looks highly improbable to me. Could easily be a CG fake.
  • JohnNation · 4 months ago
That was some Lucas caliber sfx! LOL! It looks quite convincing.
  • tommytoonz · 4 months ago
It's not fake because we can't believe someone would be so crazy, it's fake because the guy accelerated down the hill like he was wearing a jet pack. That's what looked fake.
  • SkippyFlipjack · 4 months ago
    Ditto.

I love idiots that will do things like this to keep me amused.

Only NASCAR race that I ever saw was boring until the first driver was killed.
