AMERICAblog: French make world's largest tiramisu

Is it just me, or is the growing mania for (over-) eating contests and making the biggest food item (vat of hummus, stadium-sized cheesecake, swimming pool of jello) a sign of a societal eating disorder? Something tells me that this doesn't happen in places where finding enough to eat isn't a given. Maybe I'm just a crank -- I've always found the idea of food fights revolting as well.

I concur. We must be more careful with the way we use and waste food. That food could have been given to the poor.

Agreed. Unless this was sort of a catered centerpiece for a fundraiser for charity, 2,372 lbs of "food" should not be created on a whim. Those ingredients could make a LOT of food for real people, if you had a better recipe...

I would have some, but the waiter seems to be ignoring me. Damn those French waiters.

Well, that should last for a week. ;-)

Unbelievable. I'm sitting here in the front hall of my three story walkup working on preparing for the college class I teach while I wait for (adorable) trick or treaters, mostly with their parents and wearing great costumes (one couple urged me to vote no on 1 with their thank you for the candy.) My phone just rang--on Sat night yet, and in the middle of trick or treat hour--with a robo call from the head of the Yes on 1 campaign describing the harassment experienced by the jerk of a school social worker who appeared in a Yes on 1 campaign and complained to the media about the fact one of his co-workers was chairing the school civil rights GLBT support club (most Maine high schools of any size have one). I didn't even listen to the whole message. These guys are really getting desperate--I already voted, and there should have updated AND targeted lists for any get out the vote effort that is worth its salt.

I love that you told us your home is 3 stories. What an odd detail to work into a comment on Question 1. :-)

What's with all this 'World's Biggest/Most...' food thing? Ladt week it was the biggest vat of Hummus to celebrate the birthplace of hummus in Lebanon.
Howse about we segue into 'World's Most Perfect...'? Time to move to best, not just biggest.

Indeed. There's something about this quality-vs-quantity issue that seems to have been crystallized in the Windows 7 burger being sold in Tokyo:

    A whole gutload of garbage.

From a quick google search, 340g of Tiramisu has 310 calories, 135 of it from fat. The entire thing is about 981,000 calories, 427,000 from fat.

    based on a 2,000 calorie/day diet
It's 490 days worth of calories,
728 days of your daily value of fat,
1266 days of your daily value of saturated fat,
728 days of your daily value of cholesterol
and 411 days of your daily value of carbohydrates

The chemical equivalent energy is about 32 gallons of gasoline

And the Obama administration compounds the court with more arguments made of shit, just like the prior administration.

Here is the sound argument. If a tribunal of government attorneys say no then the court must allow the state to get a case dismissed. An absolute fucking joke.

http://www.pimpthatsnack.com/ shows you how to do a similar thing to what the french did. Of course the thing is when the food is made that large it tastes like garbage.

What are the remaining 327 kgs?
