AMERICAblog: Friday Morning Open Thread

    Good morning....

The media is so focused on Wright that it is totally ignoring what the current administration is trying to get away with.....just read this on Digby:

......the news we're hearing about a possible deal on immunity definitely suggests that the Administration knows they're legally liable for spying on American citizens and they're desperate to squash any knowledge of it.

Now we learn today that the Bushies and the telcos have formed a partnership to try and get immunity nailed down.

Everybody has been in on this game. The White House, the telco lobbyists, their allies in Congress, and the outside GOP front groups. This has been a full-court press and the entire conservative machine is being brought to bear on Democratic holdouts to force them to give the Administration and their corporate buddies amnesty for breaking the law. This is the real legacy project for the Bush Administration - evading responsibility and accountability.

The Democrats have thus far resisted this wave of efforts; maybe not for long. But they should understand that Republicans would have no problem losing the next round of elections as long as they get their immunity.

A reader of Sullivan noted that yesterday over at The Corner , Nat'l Review Online, the following was observed:

    - The number of times the words "health care" is mentioned: 7
    - The number of times the word "Iraq" is mentioned: 15
    - The number of times Rev. Wright is mentioned: 230

Former journalist Sidney Blumenthal has been widely credited with coining the term "vast right-wing conspiracy" used by Hillary Clinton in 1998 to describe the alliance of conservative media, think tanks, and political operatives that sought to destroy the Clinton White House where he worked as a high-level aide. A decade later, and now acting as a senior campaign advisor to Senator Clinton, Blumenthal is exploiting that same right-wing network to attack and discredit Barack Obama. And he's not hesitating to use the same sort of guilt-by-association tactics that have been the hallmark of the political right dating back to the McCarthy era.

I am so fucking sick and tired of being lied to by everyone, including my students and parents and my admins...and the government and MSM and everyone. I guess my folks raised me all wrong...with integrity and honesty...maybe that's why I am not rich nor drive a huge car or am able to fuck everyone around me to get ahead.

Obama will be in Charlotte today at 5:30 pm at the Cricket Arena. They expect a huge crowd and wish I could go, but will be otherwise occupied until 5, so that's the second opportunity I've missed. It will be good, however, to see him sworn in as Commander in Chief next January.

It's been quite an interesting revelation, though, to see how far the Clintons will go and how low they'll stoop, to realize their ambitions. The 1992 election was the perfect opportunity for them (the disaster of Bush41 and Bill's "folksky" Rhodes Scholar style), virtual unknowns who knew how to game the election process.

Bostonian, I think we share the same gene for that. : } But, you gotta remember, this country was built on sham, dishonesty, theft, genocide, etc. when dealing with the real natives, in spite of the lofty rhetoric of the colonialists.

Chickens coming home to roost, indeed.

I wonder what the fine people of Ohio and Pennslyvania will quietly think when they get wind of this. I'd say it's kind of ..........."elite".

Amazing how easily her staff can fabricate a lie!

grandma, do you realize that "Think Progress" is part of "American Center for Progress" headed by John Podesta, who was chief of staff for B. Clinton from 1998 to the end of the term?

Podesta is also part of the 527 that is trying to "swiftboat" Obama, and Podesta's brother is a bigwig in the PA Democratic political machine.

Hidden agendas are everywhere on behalf of the Clintons.

I thought the obsession over the "flag pin" was lower, frankly.

Not sure how the Wright thing will play out, but Hillary and her handmaidens in the Media may have done Obama a favor in the long run, but forcing Obama to completely sever ties with Wright.

    BTW:

Lots of African American bloggers on Kos seem upset with Wright getting the door. It's interesting. Frankly, I'm not sure some people realize that, though Obama has lived on the South Side for 20 years, he's not OF the South Side.

During the height of the Rev. Wright stuff, I remember thinking, "he should have run for office from Hawaii." There's a lot of muck in Chicago that you can get stuck in without even realizing it.

Oh well, starting to look like he may make it through anyway.

    Good morning, A-Bloggers.
Something odd is happening in the Orlando media. Well, odder than usual. Surveys are being reported on the local TV news that foresee Hillary winning over McCain in the November elections while McCain wins against Obama. I'm not sure who's doing this poll and if it's a Florida-only poll, but it doesn't square with what I hear people saying.
On real estate matters: Recently suicided D.C. madam Deborah Palfrey's 2 bedroom condo in Orlando is for sale.
Life in Florida is not for the faint of heart.

I always thought Think Progress was not biased...however, it always seems to be looking for "interns" and that left me wondering how many have left because they found out about the Clinton slant.

No, there have been several Florida polls showing Obama having more trouble than Clinton in Florida.

I'm not surprised, really. Obama's never campaigned there, while McCain has and the Clintons are a known quantity.

Seems to me that the MSM (and therefore republicans) are being awfully nice to Hillary. This only makes sense because they fear facing Obama. Much like they went after Dean because they would've rather face Kerry. It is a machine and that machine is well oiled and efficient. I think the objective should be to not use that machine and find independent means to have a fair election. But when the true diety is $$$, how/what can be done to circumvent?
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
Bubba deregulated the banks, passed NAFTA, deregulated telecom and allowed the oil megamergers to go through, and now Hillary is planning to turn the internet over to private industry.....the moneyed interests love the Clintons.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
Bush Bites, the meme on the MSM now is that Palfrey allegedly said, during a 1992 arrest, that she would "commit suicide" before she served time.

They certainly don't want any hint that perhaps she actually didn't commit suicide. And it makes you wonder what other names were in her black book? Cheney? Clinton? Other "esteemed" members of Congress?

Oh wait, Clinton didn't believe in paying for sex, did he?
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    Cheney was my first thought.

Indigo, how many New York retirees live in FL? After all, Clinton flim-flammed New Yorkers enough to get elected senator...it's not surprising that Clinton would share the elderly vote (substantial in FL) with the Rethugs.
  • Indigo · 1 year ago
Older and Wiser and Bush_Bites too, I have to confess that I'm not acquainted with any of the New York retirees who migrate to Florida. Some New Jersians, yes, but no New Yorkers that I know of. (Maybe they don't admit it?) Even so, they're around, especially in the low income parts of Miami-Dade, Barefoot Bay, and other drinkers-r-us RV camps and mobile home settlements. I live in a house; I don't see those people. Oddly enough, my mom would have supported your suspicion that the New York retirees have a significant influence on the polls. Mom used to say, "The only thing wrong with Florida is the New Yorkers!"
    ba-da-boom!

Forget which network it was now, but one of them was going to have an interview with her when the DC Madame thing first broke, and really hyped it up, about naming names and all that. Then, they pulled back and didn't do anything.

It was obvious that somebody got to them.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
Bush Bites, I believe that was ABC...and we know how they are. Probably learned that people they favored (and even employed) were on that list.

And retired military people for McCain.

Florida would be tough for Obama, no doubt, but I don't think current polls are an accurate barometer of how he'd do.

    Yeah, you're probably right.

Any network that allows its executives and talking heads to pal around and drink with crooked pols probably doesn't mind them whoring together too.

I didn't realize how bad Disney/ABC was until recently.

ABC notes in this story about the "suicide" that Brian Ross did indeed interview Palfrey...and it includes the meme about another "statement" to commit suicide.

Once the Democrats select a candidate the lines will be clearly drawn. The corporations, the MSM, the bible banging bigots, the warhawks and the landed gentry united with everyone else on the other side

John: "I am continually struck by the ease with which the Clintons and their campaign staff just lie. It's clearly considered standard operating procedure. And, they lie about stuff that they don't need to lie about. It's really bizarre."

It makes you wonder what type of person is embracing her campaign of deception. What is the character of a Hillary supporter who supports the outright lies, bigotry, and corruption? Do we want that type of person in the Democrat Party?

Thanks, Joe, for your right on the mark thoughts.
I am old as dirt, but it still bothers me when public servants deliberately lie.

I wonder if Bill Clinton was on that DC Madam list? Just a thought.
