I love the posts about Carmela, John. Thank you!
The photos are just too cute!

My cat, BooBoo, will sit on my lap when I'm at the computer, too, and sometimes, she'll follow the mouse with her eyes/head (before she falls asleep.)

That dog's face is just about the cutest thing I've ever seen. What kind of dog is she?
  • John Aravosis · 12 months ago
Yorkie-poo, and absolutely adorable in person.

Our Jack Russell Terrorist, Mary-Margaret, couldn't care less about the laptops or the desktop PCs. But she is fascinated by the new G1 Google phone because I have barking dogs and howling wolves on the integrated YouTube feature. I think it's merely the howling sound, and not the image that interests her. Some dogs just don't get it...rather like John McSame who tried to learn to use "The Google" during the campaign. Note to old fart Congressmen...it's not a series of tubes.

She's confused because while she can hear them she can't really "see" or smell the them. Our big guys, Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs, love to bark at the wolves and coyotes. They don't even pay attention to barking dogs, which I thought rather strange.
I am just glad they don't try and climb onto the desk!!!!

I've read that Gindy's comment below is correct. However, our cat watched almost all of "Winged Migration" on our large screen TV. Ordinarily she doesn't pay attention to any TV/movie.

Is Carmela a cock-a-poo? She is very cute.
What did you get for your birthday, John?
  • John Aravosis · 12 months ago
Yorkie-poo. And nothing yet, but often my bday gifts sort of meld into larger xmas gifts :-) And I'm seriously hoping to get a condo in the next few months (have been looking for years, but actually put some bids in on a few places in the last month), so if I end up getting one, Xmas may be mom and dad and others helping me buy a dining room table, or a leather couch, or a big-ass flat screen tv (sorry, but I'm a guy, I need a huge tv).

Carmela is a doll baby! Bad news at my house, though...a neighbor's huge German Shepherd managed to dig under our fence and terrorize our less than a year old pit bull who, sadly, is in heat. (We're looking for a low cost spay/neuter clinic.) My son put her in the chain link holding pen we have on the side of the fenced in front yard and just now I went out to see why the rat terrier was in here whining again (he bolted out the door) and the G-S had managed to somehow get into that (my son didn't secure the latch with wire or something so the dog probably reached up and opened it).

So, had an ensuing dog fight with all 3 dogs; the pit bull came up on the front porch and the rat terrier tried to nail her and when he did, I picked him up and threw him in the house (he was the worse for wear in the dog fight), and managed to get her back in the pen and secured it. Don't know where the G-S was at that point, but he was not in the front or back yards. I'm going to have a talk with that neighbor who allows his G-S to roam...we try to be responsible for our dogs (thus, the fences) but some around here allow their dogs to roam.

I suspect we'll have mixed pups...

    dog porn?
  • Older_Wiser · 12 months ago
Very much so! It was sort of funny watching the rat terrier (20 lbs) trying to mount the 80 lb pit bull. : ) The G-S is at least 100 lbs, maybe more, and the rat terrier has a few small gashes on the face, neck and side from the fight, poor thing. I broke it up before he was murdered...

Dogs are the best psychiatrists/therapists in the whole world. I have THREE of them. Love them all to pieces. They've kept me from going completely insane a time or two!! One of them goes crazy (the one pictured in my icon) whenever she hears dogs on TV or on the computer. She wants to go outside because she thinks that is where they are at. Funny as hell!
  • tlsintx · 12 months ago
good lord. i just read that Tweety the spit-talking groper is running for senate...gah.
  • terjeanderson · 12 months ago
At least you've only got a Yorkie-poo trying to use your keyboard -- my full size Black Labrador Retriever (Lucy) has discovered that the best way to get my attention when I'm on the computer (or laptop) is to climb on and put her paws all over the keyboard until I give up and play with her. A 65 lb lap dog isn't a very practical thing.

    Carmela is adorable.

I can't get Homer to watch TV at all.

He just gazes at me adoringly while I do.

Even on Super Bowl Sunday when I put on The Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet for him.

Homer's Dogbook page at this link.

My cat sleeps on my keyboard if I don't push the slide out tray back under the desk. I think its like a form of kitty massage therapy to him. My other cat LOVES animal planet, especially the puppy bowl show they broadcast on Superbowl day (I even record it for him). He's totally captivated by it. When he was a kitten he used to look behind the tv for the critters he saw...........

I've got a miniature schnauzer that watches tv. She likes dog shows, Animal Planet, westerns, and basketball. (I can't explain that last one.) She also watches youtube videos if they have animals. And if I run the video camera recording of her and Dusty (standard schnauzer) she comes running to watch. I've never had a dog that watched tv before. She's a trip.
    And Carmela is adorable!

Awwwwwww!!!!! So sweet! Precious! You Tube is full of doggie entertainment...my fave--well, actually my shih tzu Sam's fave was the dog FALCOR the Urinator http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pC3n-LC3Em4 Since I keep a laptop on the bed with us, he can watch closely. He can't get it--the dog could be his big brother, and the soundtrack was definately written for dogs! He is so puzzled every time I shut it down--like why would I stop that great music and the beautiful dog?

For cat lovers, there's the "mean kitty". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qit3ALTelOo Gotta love this guy and his cat!

For TV entertainment, nothing beats the rodeo! Dogs get crazy watching the bulls! My Jackson had to watch every Sunday night, sure those bulls were inside the big console we had then . Partly he wanted to herd them, and partly chase them off his property, is my interpretation. After 20 or 30 minutes, he'd sit back with his tongue hanging out, so proud of a day's work...we were safe for another week.
