Negative campaigning doesn't work, huh? So did I only DREAM that Dubya has been president these last eight years? Wow, do I ever feel like Pam Ewing.

Breakfast TVTime ChitChat: Finally! Obama reached out to Bill Clinton! What took him so long? That just let the bad feelings fester so much. Yep, Bill badmouthed Obama and said no one was ready to be President on Day One, but Obama should have brought him on board right after he secured the nomination. But he did it so soon after that interview a few days ago it's obvious that they really hate each other, anyway and they're just pretending to patch things up out of political necessity. That ad with all those Dems praising McCain: just brilliant! And Hillary gets to make the point that Obama didn't have any qualifications to be President, except a single speech in 2002, back when he was a nobody, before he was a celebrity. Whereas she and McCain had a lifetime of experience. The DNC rebuttal ad with the same Dems critiquing McCain? Weak, since the only Hillary footage criticizing McCain came from that one Unity event--the ONLY time she ever said anything negative about McCain. Who knew? Obama has gotten more money from Big OIl than McCain, so who's the guy who's really beholden to Big Oil, huh?

Actual audio/visual ads showing the McCain " moments " will do the job better than any which talk about him. HIS OWN INCOMPETENCE will come through. The reality series would include his " deer - in - the headlights non-responses and false responses. HE has provided the very best ammunition and his destruction will be based upon HIS OWN demonstrated incompetence. How can you beat that?

It is only a negative ad if you are on the receiving end. How about some ads which talk about McCain not voting the last 400 times he had a chance, his record on not supporting the troops, his not wanting to provide increased health care for the troops, his not championing armored HUMVEE'S, his not supporting mortgage relief, his voting record supporting Bush, now these ads are FACT not negative. Negative ads which are lies do no one any good. Just deal with McCain's record. How about his voting twice against Martin Luther King Day, his votes against affirmative action, his flip flop on women's rights. There are so many things you can hammer him and the GOP on it would take years to be able to run all the potential ads. That is the thing the DNC and Obama need to stress every day, every week.

I want to see some ads informing voters about the Ledbetter decision and that McCain opposes a law that would overturn it. Forget Roe v. Wade--far more women work outside the home than have ever had an abortion or would ever consider having one. They need to be told that McSame, who lives off a superrich trophy wife, is against laws mandating equal pay for equal work.

Your right that is a major position of McCain's and while abortion is important not having the President support equality between the sexes is a paramount issue. Great point.
AND i think Obama is wisely laying the groundwork to hit back harder if he needs to...i don't doubt that he can.

SO... John McCain endorsed the war in Iraq that was probably THE main reason that oil prices have skyrocketed (that whole destabilizing the region thing) and then says see how much money these high oil prices would have given Saddam... really???? If we HADN'T gone into Iraq in the first place, oil prices might half (or less) than what they currently are. So why aren't we holding McCain (and everyone who voted FOR this elective war responsible for their role in our current economic crisis?????
you just described why democrats always look like such losers. screw hitting back. try going on the offensive. they've got plenty of ammo. but do they use it?
I do think the crappy McCain ads hurt him. My DHL delivery guy told me today that he is voting for Obama. He is a disgusted blue-collar white guy who said "this country needs a change" and he agreed that Obama is the mature adult in this race.

The Obama campaign is walking a fine line with negative ads - honestly, because he's Black, I think the campaign is sensitive to him being perceived as an "angry Black man".
But, you're right, the Dems have always had a hard time going negative. There are subtle ways to do it that deflect the damage from your candidate. The Obama camp may be waiting until after the Olympics, when the debates start up as we head towards the fall, to hit harder.

I can care less about the Olympics. If you're not into sports its really boring to watch. I mean constant coverage? Its insane. And all the pageantry of the opening, closing ceremonies is so freaking corny and over the top. I suppose if you're there it may be impressive, but coming through a tv screen it pretty much sucks and looks tacky.

The conventions is when this race is really going to kick into high gear. The contrast between Obama's speech and McCain's is going to set the stage for the narrative this fall. I personally think Obama should confront McCain about his flip-flopping on the way he set out to run his campaign in the first debate. A zinger that shows McCain's obsession with Obama instead of offering any real solutions to any problems would be a nice dagger to the heart of that campaign. Sorta like a Michael Douglas moment at the end of The American President.

Focus groups are a product of Total Quality Management and fit only for the most diliatory (time-wasting) of activities. Although pseudo-inspirational in 1991 when everything fell down boom! they were never anything more than an instrument of practice meetings for failed MBAs who were currently unemployed. That Democratic Party media types continue the myth of focus grouping is another symptom of the failed DNC and its enablers. As with Kerry, the November election is ours to loose. It can be done, just stick with Dean and the DNC and McCain's inauguration will be in January.

The decison by the McCain campaign to suspend having news conferences, ( do no doubt in part to his off-kilter performance in Florida last week) along with his increasingly disconnected comments raises some serious questions. Read more. http://www.tagg-lines.com/2008/08/speaking-unsp...

Beijing Olympiad...fancy schmancy propaganda for the American masses to tell them that it's really okay to buy crap they don't need at Wally world and Target for low prices. Please ignore that odor over there of dead Chinese "radicals" who've been "Soylent-Greened" for the party.

John McCain is an arrogant SoB with a manufactured reputation and persona (can you say transferrance?) He's got a lot of weak points. I wonder if the delay is about waiting to be sure he's the nominee. If his projected EV tally is low enough, they've already set him up for a graceful exit with the sample of skin removed for testing, If he still thinks he's strong enough, there's no way, short of a major health issue, that they can get rid of him. Maybe they just want to make sure he's the target in the Fall. But what do I know? I'm just a hick from PA.

We can sit and complain about it all day long but in reality this campaign relies on the people commenting on this blog. You people are the ones who got Obama where he is today--he really is a nomination of people and of change. I think it is time to get grassroots--he got the nomination and it seems like his supporters have given the reigns up to the campaign. You should take them back and take it in a direction toward victory. You can't let the Democrat Leaders run this operation into the ground. I only say "you" cause I was a Hillary supporter--and I am seeing so many Obama people seem helpless now. It is time to play the game: start whisper campaigns and negative attack ads to sway the ignorant, get relevant information on McCain into the hands of the educated voters, and keep promoting change to the media--they were eating this sh*t up when you were running agains Hillary. Get off your asses--if you have time to sit on here and comment you have time to send emails, create websites, sign up voters, and spread the news!
I am feeling very positive/dreamy today...LOL. BTW...quit pointing out that Crist is gay...we need McCain to pick him as the VP so that can come out later.

Ron, Why don't you focus on the Clintons? That sounds like a winning plan to me! While McCain is tearing down our nominee lets focus on the past and relegate ourselves to the losers once again. You definately sound like the Democratic leadership. I don't think the Clintons matter...probably the further they are from Obama the better. Get your head out of your ass and don't demean a positive comment with further infighting. Your attitidue is the only thing that will propigate any negative offsprings from the Clintons. They are old news. Get over it.

Mr. Graham: I don't wnt to focus on the Clintons and that is precisely the point of my comment. Their actions since the primary have been and continue to be distractions. You stated that you were a Clinton supporter and that is the reaon I posed the question to you. Also, please try to refrain from vulgarities in your discourse as they are not appreciated and add little to your comments.
Well then for an honest reply, I wish they would go away. Btw, your style and eloquence on a blog comment thread comes across as complete satire. I hope that is your intention.

Surely the Obama campaign is well aware of the pros and cons of negative ads. I have to have the confidence in their competence since they have come a long way on the road to victory. Barack Obama is clearly the superior candidate and only the " hidden " factor can derail his effort. If this proves the case then the US will have earned what will result. Stupidity and predjudice have their costs. McCain will deliver more pain. Count on it.

To hell with the thug a-hole chi-coms. If you can go to any place in the world I wold suggest Finland. Wonderful place this time of year, warm but not hot, and air that is clear and fresh as I have ever breathed, except out in the middle of the Pacific. Washington D.C. was cool as well, but if I could choose, I would have spent the whole vacation in Finland. I am very happy for my wife, for three reasons. One she was able to see her homeland, she was able to spend time with something that gives her grate joy, that being Pandas, and she was able to meet the girl she gave up for adoption 14 years ago, there had been problems about it because of the fear that she may wish to take her back, a moot point now, so the mother relented. I am happy that my wife has been given a chance to know real joy, it felt to me almost as if we were stealing it from life. But to hear my wife reveling in her joy with the little panda cub, or to see the pride and joy in her eyes when she met her first born for the first time, the joy I feel is bittersweet. And the irony sits on my hart like Jupiter's stone. Now I am back home and life is back to normal. Semi... I am going to write in Hilton, she is the only one who knows what she is talking about anyway, she is hot.
