    Breakfast TV Yipping Heads:

The last day for the October Surprise. So, unless there's a terrorist attack or a Bin Laden video, we assume the October Surprise will be:

IT'S TIGHTENING UP! (Yes, like Obama said it would--he's right about one thing, at least). All the Heads ask, rhetorically, Can McCain "Close the Gap?" Rhetorically, because there's only one answer possible on Breakfast TV: YES McCain Can! (Charlie Crist, his manly visage the color and texture of John Wayne's tooled-leather gunbelt, said so!)

Dick Morris squeaked, in his usual nasal tone, that Obama would lose because this 527 is saturating the airwaves with their Reverend Wright video. In case any Fox and Friends viewer couldn't remember who Wright is, Morris said he was the "gee-dee America" guy. Oh, THAT Reverend Wright! We only forgot about him because McCain wouldn't mention him. But other people can. Which, for Doocy and Morris, is a good thing.

Rich Lowry kept his legs together and crotch under control (sitting on a tall stool rather than the Fox and Friends sofa helped, as did NOT talking about Sarah) and mentioned how much of a chameleon Obama is. In Hyde Park, he's a terrorist sympathizer and PLO-lover, whereas in the Heartland of Ohio he's a moderate. Andrea the Dittohead Babe chimed in and insisted that we see the Khalidi video, not just have a transcript of it. A transcript wouldn't show Obama hugging Khalidi. That would be THE money shot of the election--and one fondly to be wished for by Fox and Friends. Lowry is convinced McCain will "somehow eke out a victory", but with an Obama-Khalidi porntape all bets would be off.

Meredith Vieira, interviewing Rachel Maddow (not wearing her femme makeup job), also pushed the Obama as chameleon meme. Isn't it a bad thing, Meredith mused, "he's trying to be a politician for all seasons?" That dirty Obama, trying to get elected by being all things to all people--and, God knows, trying to attract voters from the middle and even some moderate Republicans!? Doesn't Obama know anything about how to win elections successfully?!

Peggy Noonan sent Obama one of her high-minded valentines in the WSJ this morning, but she scrunched up her face and assumed a concern troll lockjawed voice to wonder if America is willing to take a chance on the "unruffled" Obama, without fully knowing "how far to the left" he will govern. So, Obama is NOT going to be a man for all seasons. Like Joe says, he's the MOST liberal Senator (according the National Journal, so that proves it!) so he will just be a man for a hot, wet American summer of liberalism.

Willie did a snarky piece about himself standing in front of Zabar's and, without any provocation, filming the HATE speech about Palin and McCain spewing from snippy and obnoxious Upper West Siders. Barnicle said it was "no wondah people hate the Left and urban elites." Missy Freeland daintily tried to point out that a parallel piece in the Deep South might possibly elicit critical grunts from those people about Obama, but Willie and Joe said it would be "polite" since people in the South are always "polite" no matter how much they hate Democrats, blacks, Mexicans, women's libbers, homosexuals, arugula, Volvos, etc, etc. ....

What with the race tightening up, Obama being too many things to too many people (which means he has no core values or integrity), and McCain's emphasis on taxes and spending (which is a fresh, new, and focused message for him thanks to Joe the Plumber!), it all adds up to: will Obama be calling to concede to President-Elect McCain on cell phone or land line? (President-Elect prefers the latter, we think).

All those salt-of-the-earth non-elite (i.e. Republican) pundits were right. The Left is nothihg but latte-drinking elites: latte-drinking ghetto elites; latte-drinking union-worker elites; latte-drinking suburban elites; latte-drinking college-student elites,...

Meanwhile the real American salt-of-the-earth corporate heads and the real American salt-of-the earth Wall Street brokers and the real American salt-of-the-earth Washington lobbyists understand by their native American instinct the intellectual genius of Sarah Palin and the deep wisdom of Sam the Joe the Plumber Not, soon to be releasing his recording of country-and-western hits available in a store near you and on amazon dot com on the Innernets..

    It's humbling.

    Thanks, Karen!
    On small town polite-prejudice-lingo:
When I first moved to Petaluma, CA in '69, there was a hell of a flap going on about moving the town's only bocce ball court from the wrong side of the tracks to a park across town where the old ladies walked their pomeranians. The blue haired seniors said the move would bring the "wrong element" to that part of town.

We will be carving our pumpkins today when the kids get home from school. We got some great ideas and stencils at this site:

Also, after cancelling an appearance here this week due to bad weather, McCain has rescheduled and his rally will now be just a few blocks from our home. Anyone have suggestions on how we should greet him?

Daughter of slave votes for Obama

Amanda Jones, 109, the daughter of a man born into slavery, has lived a life long enough to touch three centuries. And after voting consistently as a Democrat for 70 years, she has voted early for the country's first black presidential nominee.

The middle child of 13, Jones, who is African American, is part of a family that has lived in Bastrop County for five generations. The family has remained a fixture in Cedar Creek and other parts of the county, even when its members had to eat at segregated barbecue dives and walk through the back door while white customers walked through the front, said Amanda Jones' 68-year-old daughter, Joyce Jones.

This is a very touching story, i have read it over and over it never ceased to inspire me. I would love to see her when Obama was sworn into office.

Thanks for posting... Dreaming and hoping is over because change will come and we will all work to make our dreams and hopes to finally happen.

...the first time she voted, she paid a poll tax....

    not this time.
    thanks for this link, grandma!

New Poll shows that 59% think that Palin is not ready for prime time.
Palin's candidacy is bringing that ticket down. Serves McCain right.
He has shown poor judgment, and no consideration for the this nation,
by picking her. He has run a terrible campaign, and has no managerial
skills. It is unbelievable that there are American idiots out there, who cannot see this. I suppose this is the lot that voted for the Village Idiot, TWICE.
What does it take for people to learn from their past mistakes?

Spent last night with some great volunteers calling fellow MoveOn members in Florida getting more volunteers to get out the vote there.

Amidst all the answering machines/services we talked to some great people, most of whom had already voted. Got a few more people to spend some time this weekend on the phones or on the sidewalks. There was a lot of hope and nervousness.

    4 more days!

    OVERHEARD IN FL:

I am trying not to gag listening in on a couple speaking. She's an Obama supporter and he is insisting that Obama is a Manchurian candidate from the Muslim world who does not have a U.S. birth certificate. Thankfully, for Central Florida, I am seeing far more Obama signs than I expected. I'll be out on Tuesday working to defeat Amendment 2.

How do I re-grow the brain cells lost listening to that guy?
