AMERICAblog: Friday Morning Open Thread

That and how the secret service is keeping reporters of all people, corralled and away from interviewing the public at McCain and Palin rallies makes me question their patriotism and their softness to political pressure.
  • JohnInTexas · 1 year ago
If the press doesn't like it, they need to start pointing their damn cameras at the SS guys who are keeping them penned up and start talking about it LOUD.
  • WDemDem · 1 year ago
Exactly! Why isn't the press doing it's job?
  • JohnInTexas · 1 year ago
I don't know why their giving Palin any press at all anyway, the moosecowbitch won't even answer a question.

What's up with a single mother in Ohio who lost her home and is now living with her mother and is STILL an undecided voter? What is it with these people? What don't they get? Why does their vote swing every time they "read something"? At this point, we shouldn't even let people like this vote. They're scarey. Do they not read about all the lies of the McCain camp? They hold our future in their hands, and they're also holding the press hostage (along with Miss Sarah). May the gods help us all.

And Sanjay Gupta is a total GOP hack.

Haven't you noticed? Obama is blaaack!
  • JohnInTexas · 1 year ago
Yeah, some people just don't pay attention to the fact that he's only HALF black, so he could technically be white.
  • BarrieT · 1 year ago
There was a time when being of mixed race was considered a whole lot worse than being black. Maybe that time isn't over yet for some people. :-(
  • red_dwarf · 1 year ago
    (1) She lives in Ohio, (2), as Indigo suggested, Obama is a black (though I tell rednecks down here in the south that Obama is also 50% white), and (3) they lack the cognitive capacity to make simple decisions (genetic). Greed, ignorance and the rePiglican party are virtually destroying and bringing down American society. The fruitcakes, nut jobs, you name it, have yelled and screamed and cried and whined until America, non-complacent, looked the other way - not even questioning blatant lies that took us to a criminal occupation. With a whore press, you have the recipie for fascist control.

When religion died off as a major player in world politics the two party system arose to take its place. Divide and conquer. We are all slaves, by shear numbers, to man's follies.

    Breakfast TV Barking Heads:

WOW! What a comeback! No, we're not just barking and wagging our tails about the Red Sox. It's John McCain, the Comeback Kid! Not only did Dave forgive him last night, which enabled the Maverick to find the love again with the late night crowd of cool kids. But there's been a "Gallup Shock," too! Even before McCain's boffo performance at the Wednesday debate got factored in, the Daily Track now shows a statistical dead heat: 49 (Obama) to 47 (McCain). As a wizened Jack Welch, one of America's most beloved CEOs (back when America actually loved CEOs) burbled to Joe: the real McCain is BACK. As lovable as the guy America always knew was lovable before a few bad guys "took over" his campaign. Doocy yelped: "It's Game on!" So, the liberal elite media Washington Post trashed Sarah this morning in its endorsement of Obama, but that's only going to tighten the race even more, when real hard-working American people recoil from that endorsement.

It's the Battle of the Joes! How dare Joe Biden, who doesn't even know there are 4 letters in J-O-B-S, attack America's beloved new blue-collar guy, Joe the Plumber. Gretchen insisted that despite Joe the Plumber's not earning $250K, the "point is" he wants to! That's the American Dream! And the Democrats want to destroy everybody's incentive to succeed. Why does Joe B hate Joe P? Because Joe the Plumber "stole" Biden's Joe Sixpack cred! As Kilmeade scoffed: Biden lives in a "complex," whereas Joe the Plumber just has a normal house. Two plumbers who work at The Villages showed up with Doocy, and Shawn the Plumber said Obama's tax plan was "an abomination" (just like the title of that great book that says Obama is a Secret Muslim Who Pals Around With Terrorists). Shawn the Plumber was referred to as: a "real life Joe the Plumber" by the Fox and Friends! It's great to see reality be the watchword of Fox News!

It was like Chuckles the Comedy Lounge last night at that white tie dinner. America on the precipice of an economic meltdown and two shootin' wars loves to laugh along with Obama, McCain, and Hillary (in her glittery pants suit!). Both candidates got their zingers in, and Gretchen spoke for us all when she said it was better than the debate. Obama and McCain weren't "as angry." America hates Obama when he's angry, and has seen how much McCain is back to being the guy they fell in love with, so it all adds up to: Meghan McCain, welcome to your new writer's studio in the White House--the kidz of America want MORE of your adorable books about Daddy McCain--a role model all kidz can look up to!

What the hell don't people understand about taxes? I keep hearing these anti-tax types calling up CSPAN and whining when they're only paying 10%.

How the hell do they think roads, bridges, schools, the post office, and many other PUBLIC facilities get built and running like the public demands?

Hell, if they want to hide their little bit of money, they can build their own shit. Let them see exactly what it costs and what they're really missing by not paying taxes.

What don't these anti-tax types understand about the billions in subsidies, tax shelters and offshore banking that mitigates the taxes of the rich which actually are a detriment to the ordinary taxpayer's own success and keeping more of their earnings?

Eat the rich! They create no value except for their own pockets. Working people are the ONLY people that create honest value. And people wonder why there has been a financial meltdown. Go ahead, corporations, lay off some more workers and see how much money they have to buy your products and services. Corporations create demand, not for the products people actually need and want, but what creates the most profit for them, and they are now paying the price, along with the laid off worker and consumer you so despise.

Am I the only one who thinks central banks are just printing money to give to these yahoos to save them? How many trillion will govts owe when it's over?

If Joe the Plumber is not a licensed plumber but just works for one, and has never applied for a license or an apprenticeship, doesn't that make him Joe the Labourer?
  • JohnInTexas · 1 year ago
I agree. but I'd bet the name "Joe" is on the top 10 redneck trailer trash baby names of the year this year, at least up in the great stated of Alyaska. Wouldn't doubt if six-pack doesn't show up as a middle name in a few.
  • JohnInTexas · 1 year ago
I think he'd be called Joe the Plumber's Helper....kinda the gopher tools and shit guy from my personal experience with plumbers in the past.
  • Older_Wiser · 1 year ago
Joe S, how about schlepping over to TPM and getting David Igelsia's educated opinion on the politically-motivated persecution of ACORN, and the lying, ubiquitous and incessant robo-calls being perpetrated by the RNC?

I like this news!!!! I hope the Giant Awakens and slaps those racist REPUKES in the face!!!

    -----------------------------------

The Sleeping Giant Awakes: Latinos are Ready to Vote

Recently released data on voter registration points to the dawn of a new political reality.

In the spring of 2006 millions took to the streets in cities, large and small, across the nation. Carrying signs proclaiming, "Today We March – Tomorrow We Vote," they voiced their opposition to legislation intended to criminalize 12 million undocumented immigrants, divide families, and foster a climate of fear and intimidation. They demanded instead that meaningful, humane, and responsible, immigration reform be enacted.

Two and a half years later, no such legislation has passed, replaced instead by a toxic and divisive debate that has led to increased raids, illegal detentions, hate crimes, and the very climate of fear and intimidation the marchers took to the streets to oppose. These events have galvanized the Latino community like never before and set the stage for what could be a seismic shift in the American electorate.

Joe, crushed and humilitated is not enough. I want to see some orange jump suits and Rove, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Rice crying like babies. Bush should be made to clean the trash in Crawford with a dog leash attached to his neck.
  • High Crimes & Misdemeanors · 1 year ago
Damn straight lynchie!!! We need these crimes investigated, prosecuted and sentenced with the bush crime family. It's not enough that we throw their ass's out!!!!

I'm pissed and not gonna take it anymore!!!

Obama is down two points in CNN's poll of polls this morning. We could still lose this thing.
  • High Crimes & Misdemeanors · 1 year ago
let's not give to much credence to the propagandist.... remember, polls are only good for the first 20minutes, then they become obsolete....
  • Hurrycane · 1 year ago
I dunno... I'm just awash in dread. Category 4 dread.

I can't imagine anyone who isn't rabidly anti-abortion or racist supporting McCain / Palin, but almost half of America, apparently, plans to vote for these very dangerous individuals. It's frustrating and frightening.

That aside, the M$M has such a strong profit interest in a close race... might it be able to engineer one by influencing public opinion through poll reporting? Life imitating spin?

Wasn't Gore ahead by a wide margin, too, at this point in his race?
  • freshpaint · 1 year ago
then let's get to work and get our early voters to the polls, do pollwatching so we know who's voted and who hasn't, and work our fingers off on election day, even if the weather is awful. our turnout vs. theirs. that's the way it always is. polls don't vote, people vote.

When Hubble funding came up in a recent Senate debate, John McCain was overheard saying, "Whoa, that's a lot of money for an overhead projector!"
