AMERICAblog: Friday Orchid Blogging

  • vwcat · 1 year ago
As a gardener and someone who worked for several years in a garden center, I just love seeing your orchids. I do roses myself.
By the way, for those wondering about the democrats and FISA, Time has an article on it. As I thought, alot of it has to do with the elections. To protect the downticket in red districts and to help Obama appear more to the center to those voters who might think him too left and blunt the right's attacks.
it's pure political positioning as I assumed. it's the season.
Not happy about it but, I understand what is going on and why. Some was because Pelosi wanted to get some things out of it to keep Georgie at bay.
    Surprisingly!

OK, from the start, this article... pissed me off!
"drawn attacks from both sides of the political spectrum" - wrong. a lie. the riech-wingers are laughing. WAKE UP and realize that Time is phony coporate 'press'. From nyt (also an unreliable newsource, but) http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/20/washington/20...
"I think the White House got a better deal than even they had hoped to get," said Senator Christopher Bond
Back to the time article: "a top Pelosi aide, who estimates that as many as 10 competitive races could have been affected by it" - are 10 seats worth it? really?
"Pelosi's centrist compromise doesn't just help House Democrats in the fall." helps them? sure. helps the nation? democracy? hell no.
The central compromise of the article is the court will review the request for warrantless wiretapping and just make sure it was 'ok'. BUT it doesn't matter because it was still VERY wrong for them to do it and we need to know WTF they did! Get it?? There can be no such thing as an 'immunity law'. They knew that much at Nuremberg. The judge in this case, would look at the so called letters only if he has evidence to not believe the AG. Also, if the judge doesn't like it; it is still doesn't change ANYTHING: http://www.aclu.org/safefree/general/35726prs20...
"if the court denies an order for any reason, the government is allowed to continue surveillance throughout the appeals process, thereby rendering the role of the judiciary meaningless. In the end, there is no one to answer to; a court review without power is no court review at all." More to read:
    http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2008/06/...
Make no mistake, this law is damaging to justice right now and who knows what could be uncovered if the lawsuits proceeded.
i'm sorry, but don't think you know "what is going on and why" ; on the contrary, you're behaving fairly sheepishly.
I really this dispise this craven deal making; and the cowardly, neo-lib, coporate-caving, money/lobbyist-driven, rahm emmanual-slimy cabal that controls this crap - ye gods!. The US and the world does NOT need it; and I get frustrated with "it's the season" - type comments which sounds like just shrugging it off. No thanks.

I think you misunderstand what I am saying. What I'm saying is that there were reasons - whether I agreed or not - that may just explain some things.
I hate the FISA deal. But, I am just trying to understand why the democrats, Obama ect., were acting the way they were. It made no sense and with all the pressure to not go along, I am trying to understand why they did.
I linked to Time as maybe some of the reasons.
I was not commenting on my personal take on this. Everyone hates it. I hate it.
I am just looking for why.
So, the article may have held some clues as why the dems were doing something so against what people want and would tick people off.
It is not my personal. I was not express it was okay. I am just trying to understand what is going on and why.

I forgot. I think you should know I am half french. My family and i will be spied on because we talk to our cousins and aunts over there. So, please understand how I personally feel about this thing and the anger involved.
But, I am just reserving my anger to see if there is an explaination and good reasons. I can't think the dems would support this and give Bush more power right before an election. Many of who are up for re election them selves.
I have found that there have been times when we on the left over reacted to something that turns out later to have been for a reason and we end up wasting anger.
So, I am just reserving mine and trying to find out why first.

I just posted this on the FISA thread, but since it seems to have fizzled out, I'll repost it here:

On the rerun of Countdown, i just watched the part where Keith and John Dean were talking about the FISA bill again.
John Dean offered up some hope, saying that while the bill contains *legal* immunity (as in lawsuits) for the telecoms, it does NOT preclude the possibility of bringing CRIMINAL charges later on, something that Obama has been saying all along that he would consider doing.

Keep hoping to be disappointed. Barack is not the change agent. We simply have no leaders for the people and the contract that binds our grand experiment, the Constituion.

Barack is a fraud and a coward, but one of the most attractive of many in this group.

May the next election or so work like a much needed devastating plague hitting the halls of DC government removing all of those pigs who have slopped at corruption's trough for far far too long.

Nice flowers but an hour since the last comment, maybe they could be laid upon the grave of the once proud Democratic Party on their newly renamed work place 'Capitulation Hill'.

Ahhhh, the species of Fisa Reticulorum is rampant in this thread.
John, do you have any fragrant orchids?
  • Indigo · 1 year ago
Lovely tiny orchids . . . and a very nice thumb.

Sorry, John, but I can't buy the Doritis pulcherrima tag. Here are a couple of links to the type color form (http://www.orchidspecies.com/doritispulcherma.htm) and the peloric form (http://www.orchidspecies.com/orphotdir/doritipu...). The lip is all wrong for Doritis; without seeing the growth habit (sympodial or monopodial) I can't be sure, but the flowers look much more like Encyclia or Oncidium (it's a little hard to see details in the photo). Of course, they could always be something I'm not familiar with, too, but Doritis? I very much doubt it.
