    Were they slimmed down?

Yes I remember the 3 firefighters in the infamous 9/11 photo.

One lost about 50 lbs in the 'reenactment'.

Nice to see they're looking to the left.

I wonder what Chris intends with this lovely image, I'd certainly send some money her (or his) way for a high res copy and/or in the form of a small poster, placard, of some type.

Really nice. It reminds me somewhat of a sort of shrine someone in my neighborhood erected. There's a large sign that reads "Minnesota for Obama." Behind that sign is an American flag on a stand. Below the large sign are signs for other Democratic candidates. Nice to see children, not of voting age - our future.

    Neat.

Disclaimer... I'm a huge Obama and Americablog fan.

That image is distasteful. One of the comments below relates the image to the raising of the US Flag after 9/11. Convenient, but no... that Iwo Jima being represented there.

I'm just as emotionally engaged about taking back our country as anyone else, but some things are iconic and should be respected. The flag raising at Iwo Jima is something that should be respected, and has been rightfully enshrined with it's own memorial.

This is just a cheap takeoff of a great concept, albeit it has good intentions. More importantly, It dilutes the memory of fallen heroes on a battlefield practically a world away by changing the concept into something that fits one's political self interests. Yes I understand the correlation, but it's just a little inappropriate for my tastes.

Cheap? I couldn't agree less, children as part of the battle for making America great (again) -- in the best taste possible.

The Iowa Jima image has been knocked off in many ways -- not always as solemn as the 9/11 responders, There have been cheesy images, but this is not one of them.

Although I find it distasteful, it doesn't mean I don't understand the intent. It can be commended for that I suppose, but I still find it over the top.

I'm sorry but it reminds me of the hokey heroic crap with which the soviet bloc was so enamored in the 50's.
  • graymatter · 1 year ago
Yeah, um, as a Marine Corps veteran I'm kind of offended. This needs to go away. There are plenty of ways to depict the heroic struggle of every American supporting Obama without appropriating such an icon - such a bloody icon - as the raising of the flag on Mt. Suribachi.

    Uncool.

i completely agree with you. i too am a veteran, although i don't know if that has anything to do with me not liking this particular picture. There are some things that stand out in time as truly significant and important events, and trying to "recreate" them to define something unrelated always falls short and ends up looking way too staged.

I respectfully disagree with those who find this image distasteful. After what GWB has done to this country, with his irresponsible and treacherous actions leading to the deaths of over 4,000 brave Americans, I think the image is wonderful.

Yes! This image is absolutely appropriate!.....Our youth recognizing that they are in a struggle to reclaim the very soul of our nation.
