AMERICAblog: GALLUP: Obama gets a bounce

  • NealB · 1 year ago
Complicated, because McCain will likely get a negative bounce from his convention (unless they cancel it).
  • SSB · 1 year ago
From all accounts, the hurricane will hit Monday night. This couldn't be worse timing for the GOP. Not only will it swipe all kinds of coverage pre hurricane, but also post storm al la "how was the fed's response?" I couldn't see the convention getting cancelled, but there won't be nearly the coverage. Thus no bounce.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
Are they still considering canceling the convention. I saw where someone said it was because "it wouldn't be right to hold it if people were suffering the effects of a hurricaine"

TRANSLATION: We won't hold it if the hurricaine is going to get more press
  • anotherdumguy · 1 year ago
That storm is going to be spun by the news media as how could those nasty dems enjoy such suffering. Mark my words.
  • moreleesafer · 1 year ago
    Convention=funeral

no way is it going to have the party atmosphere and enthusiastic crow of the dem convention. I am still in awe at the speech. I hugged my 11 y.o. child as we watched. I told him you will always remember where you were when this happened.
  • dad · 1 year ago
    and post speech?

    here's hoping for double digits!

You know what they say about polls Robert.

OK. Does everybody here want to fully push for Bob Barr for president? I think I see a bounce in his numbers :-)
  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago
Negative McStain bounce from Veep selection and the convention...
  • TheOriginalLiz · 1 year ago
41% support McCain??? Hard to believe that many people are that brain dead.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
Their not. From what I have overheard from fellow workers, it is a vote against Obama. They are not in love with McCain they just don't want Obama.
  • Soundboy_jeff_meanie · 1 year ago
that was my vote for Kerry as well.
  • Soundboy_jeff_meanie · 1 year ago
    chimpy still has 28%.

    nuff said.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
GOP spin: "But it's not over 50%! Still can't, won't seal the deal with the American people!"
  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago
    Numbers only reflect landlines...
  • rkarena · 1 year ago
Not true - nearly all polling organizations now include mobile-phone-only households. From Gallup: Interviews are conducted with respondents on land-line telephones (for respondents with a land-line telephone) and cellular phones (for respondents who are cell-phone only).
  • scottinsf · 1 year ago
I'm glad you put that idea to rest. I've heard that argument quite a bit lately but trust your opinions on this and that is that.
  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago
I think you need to define "nearly"...
  • rkarena · 1 year ago
I do not reference polls that don't address this issue directly. I say nearly because I'm sure that there are some pollsters out there (say working for Congressional candidates, etc.) that don't, but every single national poll I reference does.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
I'm still trying to figure out how Palin helps McCain in any of the swing states.

    Am I missing something?
  • devis1 · 1 year ago
The Catholic vote in PA maybe.
  • ndtovent · 1 year ago
good news, but I'm still worried because the gap is too close. Candidates from both parties always get a bounce in the numbers after the conventions.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
I only worry about the state-by-state polls anyway.
  • HereinDC · 1 year ago
    .
    Thinking:

WTF is the GOP Convention bio/ film going to look like the night of the VP candidate?

Plus....to see her on stage with her small kids and..... what......her holding a 4 month old baby?
  • HereinDC · 1 year ago
    OMG
Can you imagine a crying baby on THE STRAIGHT TALK EXPRESS?

    McCain will be livid!
  • HereinDC · 1 year ago
The Saturday Night Live skits are just writing themselves.
  • Soundboy_jeff_meanie · 1 year ago
one of my friends suggested palin will govern from a drum circle.
  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago
You mean aside from McCain himself?
  • HereinDC · 1 year ago
And Tina Fey looks so much like Palin.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
A 4-month old baby with Down Syndrome. Soft focus, slow piano music, the whole works to jerk tears out of the suckers. There will be an avalanche of bathos in the media focused on this woman, I guaran-damn-tee it.
  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago
See Peggy Noonan's "two-headed baby" remark from Mourning Joe...
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
Yeah--that's the equivalent of a Karmic bitch-slap on Noonan's smug face.
  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago
To be totally serious...This really reminds me of Quayle's pick and, as with H.W., telegraphs the ticket topper's insecurities and short comings.
Joining Johnny's temperment in the discussion cue will be Johnny's judgement and ego.
John must be made to detail the reasoning behind this presidential candidate's most important and seemingly most flawed decision to date.
  • HereinDC · 1 year ago
Dailykos was writing "Sarah Quayle Palin" and putting a slash thru Qualye.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
That is good news but I don't think the bounce is going to last. McCain's campaign has managed to push Obama off the news cycles today. I believe that tons of uneducated women voters are going to be swayed by this Palin women, experienced be damned.
  • nicho · 1 year ago
Uneducated doesn't mean dumb. And, actually, it's the "educated" women who were mesmerized by the idea of a woman candidate.
  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago
I'm wondering if the Palin's have any nannies without W-2's???

Plus, I can't see too many women getting teary over a woman who puts career before her young family...
Michelle Obama has made her two little ones her top priority.
And, today's cycle is young...Negative Quayle material didn't appear until middle to late afternoon of day 1...
  • nicho · 1 year ago
I can't imagine Wall Street is going to be thrilled with the idea of an inexperienced mayor from East Bumfuck, Alaska running the economy -- and I'm guessing the Pentagon isn't jumping with joy over the prospect of having to salute Miss Congeniality as CIC.

Remember, just to get into the race Hillary had to prove she had bigger balls than any of the guys on the circuit. And, if that meant staring a war or two, she did was up for it. What has Ms. Palin done?

People have to realize that McCain's VP stands a 60-70 percent chance of being president before 2012.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
You're right; tuned to CNBC right after 10 AM EST and they were NOT happy. But they will learn to like what Unca Karl dishes out for them to eat.

Meanwhile, Bush Administration officials can score photo ops and cover your ass memos before Gustav shows up.

    Impressive.

Rumor has it that the baby isn't Palin's....it's her 16 year old daughters...

GOOGLE has more about Palin's baby rumors. Guess we need pics of her prego
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
    Chance of a 16 year-old having a baby with Down Syndrome: 1 in a 1000+.
    Chance of a 43 year-old having a baby with Down Syndrome: 1 in 35.

Beautiful. Simply beautiful. Send this to all your GOP acquaintances:

I hope they show her a job description before November.
  • eagleye · 1 year ago
I think McCain's problem is that she is going to be the better half of the ticket,

Queen Palin's Husband is a real backroom snake!

    She's in serious shit!
  • scottinsf · 1 year ago
Oh that's juicy. This is going to be interesting.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
OK--I am baffled: in the last 4 hours I have read more dirt on Palin than I can enumerate. The McCain campaign had 4 months to vet her: WTF happened?! Can't anybody on McCain's staff "do the Google?"
  • scottinsf · 1 year ago
    They panicked dear.

    As well they should ;-)
  • okojo · 1 year ago
They had to focus group this to death, and find the group they need to pick up to win. They had to know the crap and lack of experience etc. This is just a really lame pick.
  • Soundboy_jeff_meanie · 1 year ago
whoa!! I just emailed the link to John, he should push this tidbit.
  • Dave of the Jungle · 1 year ago
I had so many Freedom Underpants jokes for Mitt Romney.

    Ho Hum.

    Sarah Palin should be fun.

I wonder if Ms. Palin can spell???
  • okojo · 1 year ago
I think the stopping of wearing depends, ulcers and less scotch drinking comes about when Obama gets above 50% and stays above 50%, that means he got enough Independents, he is getting close, but as long he is wavering around 48-49%, that bothers me, and it means his support has stop or it has solidify.
