Gingrich is the last person who should be given credibility if he's supporting an HRC candidacy. If HRC does get the nomination, Gingrich will be the first person on FoxNews to trash the bejesus out of Hillary. Gingrich's only interest is in getting the most vulnerable opposition candidate to attack in the general election. He knows that Obama will be more formidable and has less baggage. He knows that Hillary's background is full of political scandals and that Hillary herself is more prone to using dirty politics, which will continue to lower her negative numbers.
It's a tactic to a larger strategy.

These guys aren't pro Clinton. They are pro not-in-the lead. I don't think Clinton is the better candidate, but I do think that, if the situation were reversed, these guys would be pushing Barack Obama. It is to John McCain's advantage to defocus the Democratic message to the point of autophagious (sp?) behavior.
At some point, someone's going to have to act like an adult and drop out. I would think Ms. Clinton would be the obvious choice since her winning strategy is based on capturing a declining demographic (to which I belong).

" Hillary actually has more votes than Obama (which is absolutely untrue"
1. Depends on your point of view. In terms of popular vote (which includes Michigan and Florida) she ABSOLUTELY HAS MORE VOTES. In terms of delegates (which does not include MI or FL -- yet), she has less.
2. I;m curious, John. If Hillary Clinton gets the nomination, will you stand by all the trash you've hurled at her lately, and vote for McCain?

so... hillary... I took a presidental vote around Hillcrest, among my friends... where the two choices were myself and Joseph Stalin... and I won (Stalin only got one vote... I'm no longer speaking to THAT bitch).

It is NOT TRUE that Hillary has more popular votes than Obama, technically or by the seat of your pants.
IF you add Hillary's votes in Florida in you need to include Obama's and then she has LESS.
IF you want to add in Michigans votes, you simply cannot do so in any fair manner as BOTH agreed it would NOT count AND Obama was not even on the ballot.
So please, let us keep this an honest discussion...
Nigel Elliott

Honest discussion? How? Nothing "honest" about the Clintons. There is no way she can win. Florida and Michigan don't count because Hillary's campaign staff voted not to seat the delegates before she needed them. Flip flop, lying Clinton.

We the people? What am I then? A billygoat? We can do better right? Like Obama? He denounces his pastor only when he becomes a liability and you call it courage? A "transcendent", "post-racial", "inspired" candidate would have defended the Rev. and explained to Democrats, Independents and Republicans that being black in america means having an entirely different view of our history and what patriotism means. He would have explained that the anger Rev. Wright speaks to is very real and if we ever plan on getting to a truly post racial America, we need to see it ourselves and others as they truly are, not as some strawman. Obama didn't do that did he? He gave in when it got tough. He tossed his friend of twenty years to the wolves to save his own skin.

Is it possible that Newt Gingrich has his own agenda -- i.e., reaching out to the voters in Michigan and Florida who have been disenfranchised by this pissing contest between the DNC and the respective state party leaders?
I know the default position here at Americablog is that everything anyone says anywhere at any time is evidence of an evil plot by Hilary Clinton and her minions, but maybe, just maybe, the Republicans are exploiting a weakness within the Democratic party here; that weakness being that any attempt to redress the harm done to actual voting Democrats in two critical states has, to date, been derailed at the national level; and that there have repeatedly been statements to the effect that if any effort to give Democrats in Florida and Michigan a voice in the nomination process results in an advantage for Clinton, it means the end of the Democratic party as we know it.
Really, are you surprised that the Republicans are reaching out to voters that Democrats are leaving behind? It's kind of Politics 101.

If you're so concerned about our "civil war" , why are you such a willing foot soldier? You post nothing but vitriol about Hillary and they you want to complain about having a split within the party? If you don't want to get dirty, quit throwing mud.
Secondly, if Hamas and Iran and Syria want to see Obama elected and I said "tell you anything?", would you consider it a fair attack or an attempt to poison the debate? I don't think it's fair when McCain says Obama is the favored candidate of Hamas but it's also just as much of a distortion to use Gingrich and Clinton as a proxy for Hillary. Honestly, you're better than that. I get it that you think Obama is the better candidate but to slime the Clintons like you write for Powerline.com creates exactly the scenario you say you want to avoid. Obama faithful believe that because their candidate has a small lead in delegates, the race isn't close at all and Obama should be given the nomination. He's not earned it yet. Let him earn it and it will be worth the effort. Earn it for him by expelling those who prefer Clinton and the nomination is worthless.

bulldog909

If Obama had 'divorced' him years ago it would not be an issue. The fact he only walks away once he has become a liability shows no character on his part. Obama made the choice to associate with this nut for 2 decades, too late to distance himself now. Just like his association with the terrorist Ayres, it was his choice, now he must deal with it. If you think Hill has been tough on him, wait till the rightwing 527's start on him. Quotes from his wife, his typical white person comment, his refusal to wear a flag even after one was given to him by a vet, his connection to Ayres, Rev. Wright. They can't wait.
LunaStick

Bulldog909, tell a lie in your comment and you get automatically discounted.
Look nimrod, he took the pin and wore it THAT DAY ONLY. Understand? After that he removed it and has not put it back on. It would have been smart to wear that pin from then on and if asked about it say it was given to him by a vet and supporter and so he is wearing it. To remove it is just bizarre, like he is asking for controversy.

bulldog909
I didn't decide to make it an issue, but many people have, and Obama was given the perfect way out of it by just keeping the stupid pin he was given, and he refused. Why? Who knows. It is just stupid on his part, like he is trying to prove some point. Fine. But it will cost him votes, so it is not very smart.
LunaStick
He had long ago made his point about why he doesn't generally wear the flag pin. Nice concern troll tactic. See ya, wouldn't want to be ya.
bulldog909
As far as McCain, I think his 22 years in the Navy and 6 years as POW give him a pass to wear or not wear whatever he chooses. I think the whole pin thing is stupid, but once it becomes an issue he should have dealt with it. For some reason he is playing into republican hands by reinforcing the belief that there is reason to question his patriotism, just like the Ayres and the Wright issues. He is damaging himself.

He won by 50,000 votes there and that more than makes up for the 11,000+ vote lead hillary gets when you count your precious Michigan votes (where Obama gets ZERO! How f'n fair!)

I can't speak for everyone, just myself. That is the problem with this contentious race, I think each and every person has their own view of their favorite candidate, we have lost focus of the end game, beating the Republicans. How to heal that, I don't know. I just know that I personally feel that if Hillary Clinton runs this country as she as run her campaign then it will be like four more years of Bush. If nothing else, when the likes of William Kristol and Newt Gingrich (and especially Gingrich, of all people!) have praise for Clinton, it should at the very *least* give any dyed-in-the-wool Democrat a moment or two of pause. Hell, it should be giving *her* pause...because if she should happen to be chosen as the Democratic Party nominee, everyone knows (and if they don't, they should) that this support won't even last a long as one picosecond after the decision has been announced. I think that from then on, the campaign of 2008 will make the campaign of 2004 almost seem like a walk in the park by comparison. This is actually one of the reasons why I suspect that this is most likely an attempt at reverse psychology -- they're actually hoping that Clinton will be chosen as the nominee because they think she'll be easier to beat than Obama will. Rightly or wrongly, true or untrue, they have a lot of ammunition which they can throw at her.

No, when they stopped the vote counting. Did you just say, "Oh, what a shame".
We voted in good faith. Biden, Kucinich, Gravel, and Clinton were on the ticket. Obama took his name off. Still, Obama pushed quite publicly to have everyone of his voters check off "Uncommitted" to obtain his share of delegates (split among others not listed) at the convention).
Now, we're treated like, "what did you vote for you stupid jerks". You knew it wouldn't count!"
So does this mean we get to count "Uncommitted" as being votes for Obama? That will give Obama an even BIGGER popular vote lead! Thank-you! This will be very helpful in defeating the silly hillbot argument that she actually has the lead in the popular vote. What a crock some people are trying to pass on to us. :)

Newt was on the radio in NC this morning, on the the Brad and Britt Show FM 101 WZTK which has a statewide audience. I'm sorry I don't have a recording of it.
He was on at (9:25) endorsing Hillary Clinton, more or less. He's talking about how efficient and brilliant she is. Neut is saying "its like Obama is being deliberately two faced... bla blah blah. Neut is tarring Obama along with Wright.
So evidentally the republicans are pulling out all stops -
1. Neut Gingrich on the stump for Hillary,
2. DINO NC Gov "Crash Easley" endorsing Hillary (he's not running for anything and is outgoing Gov, he was sued Apr 14 by major media outlets for deleting official emails (most of them) violating public records law. (Sounds like Rove, doesn't it?) The media (outside of NC) is touting this as a major endorsement, but Easley has always been completely out of touch from the voters. I don't think he's ever been photographed with a black man either.
3. Robo Calls in NC to African-Americans only telling them they need to register to vote, and a form is in the mail to them. The form never arrives but the AAs may think they can't vote because of this.
4. Rush Limpballs Operation Chaos. Hopefully its a smokescreen, but we do have a pocket of racists still in our state, and alot of GOP switched to "unaffiliated" or Dem so they could vote in Dem primary.

What's amazing is that the GOP push for Hillary is transparent and out in the open. Did any of the girls mention that it was just a GOP ploy? I'm not allowed to watch "The View".
It's a tactic to a larger strategy.
Like I'm waiting for Terry Jefferies (shudder) ...Voice like The Simpsons fat comic shop owner...I can see him eating a field mouse.
Senator Obama's taking questions at his press conference denouncing his former pastor's speech at the press club yesterday.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
LOL on Terry Jefferies voice! He gives both of us the total creeps....
At some point, someone's going to have to act like an adult and drop out. I would think Ms. Clinton would be the obvious choice since her winning strategy is based on capturing a declining demographic (to which I belong).
md
Unless someone gets on the stick about election (vs voter) fraud, PA could be decidedly (by ES&S) red by next cycle.
it's becoming crystal clear that is exactly what will happen.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why is THE VIEW off of your viewing list?
the guy who pushed the hardest (pun intended) against Bill for the Monica affair while he himself was engaged in extra-marital infidelity (he was divorced from his first wife while she was recovering from cancer in the hospital because of cheating on her, and he also had an affair while married to his second wife, who he then divorced) is now pushing hard for Hillary?
What a randy fellow.
I recall a time when this blog was pro-Hillary. Wha' happened?
I thought we counted all the votes since 2000.
---
actually... TECHNICALLY, its true... if you add the states where Obama wasn't on the ballot because their process was invalidated.
so... hillary... I took a presidental vote around Hillcrest, among my friends... where the two choices were myself and Joseph Stalin... and I won (Stalin only got one vote... I'm no longer speaking to THAT bitch).
I guess that means I'm president, right?
http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily...
Superdelegates Obama is behind
Popular vote Obama is ahead
IF you add Hillary's votes in Florida in you need to include Obama's and then she has LESS.
IF you want to add in Michigans votes, you simply cannot do so in any fair manner as BOTH agreed it would NOT count AND Obama was not even on the ballot.
So please, let us keep this an honest discussion...
Honest discussion? How? Nothing "honest" about the Clintons. There is no way she can win. Florida and Michigan don't count because Hillary's campaign staff voted not to seat the delegates before she needed them. Flip flop, lying Clinton.
I don't think it's fair to count FL or MI unless they are done over.
MI was completely screwed since Hillbot cheated and put her name on the ballot while the others did not.
Might not have been fair but it was legal.
Obama voluntarily took his name off the ballot.
I agree! anyone who ATTEMPTS to try to con the people about this popular vote ILLUSION is simply another dishonest lying pol, and god knows we have far too many of them in this election!
under any circumstances.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
THEY ALSO AGREED IT WOULDN'T COUNT!
Give it up. You can speak logic to Hillbots. She can't be denied. Hillary might even pull a Lieberman and run as an Indy just to spite the Democrats. Hillary is a pro-war neocon traitor. Period.
IF she manages to screw this primary up and get on the ticket, I will write in Obama's name.
when the nominee (obama) is chosen, they will go back to hating Hillary.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
I have got to disagree with you on this one. Hill has done quite a lot over the last few years in cozying up to the Republicans and even the far right of the party's worst slime.
They DO want to run against her because they think she's an easier ticket, BUT make no bones about it, I am sure she will end up in a Republican administration. Both she and Joey (Lieberman) will be front and center.
"BUT make no bones about it, I am sure she will end up in a Republican administration..."
You're sure are you? I'm sure you're wrong but more than that, I'm sure it's people like you who will sow the seeds of defeat for Democrats this year.
Hillary and Bill Clinton have been working to advance Democratic causes for their entire adult lives. Along comes a bunch of childish idiots who think it's a swell idea to toss them out of the party. Guess what? You can leave the party. I know for sure there are many people all across the country who would mourn their loss. I doubt we'd miss you at all.
OH WAIT! No they haven't! They helped lead to the fatigue that brought us W! How dare us not be greatful for what they have done!
If they represent the Democraric Party at it's finest, it's time for a new party because we the PEOPLE can do better than those two lying, parsing say anything to win only to turn on the working class "Democrats".
"If they represent the Democraric Party at it's finest, it's time for a new party because we the PEOPLE can do better than those two lying, parsing say anything to win only to turn on the working class "Democrats".
Yes, you are a billygoat.
If Osama Bin Laden wore one, would he too be a patriot?
Excuse me, but ALL Democratic candidates signed an agreement that stated in no uncertain terms that Florida and Michigan would not be seated due to their jumping ahead of other states. ALL knew what the signing meant. and ALL agreed. Now the losing candidate wants to pretend she doesn't like what is being done to those states.
Spin it all you want, it won't fly.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Actually I think she and McSame have plans to either run together OR be in his administration. She is HELPING him win this thing...
The GOP have always hated the Clinton's and if she steals this nomination the GOP will still hate the Clinton along with a lot of other people and the GOP will have so much to use against Hillary and this time Hillary and Bill cannot come crying to the Democratic voters that the right wing smear machine is being mean to her again.
http://www.barackobama.com/index.php
They will hurt the party and not blink, so why isn't the party doing something about it?
you would think it is over but listen to the spinning going on right now. After a very public denouncement the press is now questioning why Obama wasn't in church on the days of the inflammatory comments. After that very long and very public denouncement the press wants MORE.
Sullivan: Obama Divorces Wright..Farrakhan too!
http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily...
The racism is not coming from voters it is coming from the MSM, the political pundits and the politicians that support Hillary.
I am suspicious of ANYTHING they do and say.
"Yeah, he'd like that, wouldn't he - prolong our civil warn until August. So now Gingrich joins Limbaugh and all the rest of the nutjobs in being a Hillary fan. Tell you anything?"
Pat Buchanan saying Obama has a credibility issue is like Richard Simmons giving lessons on how to be macho.
c'mon... is the American public going to listen to GOP mouthpieces talking about why people should vote for hillary??
idiotic.
Buchanan will NEVER vote for Obama. No reason to listen to anything Pat says. Obama is a brilliant campaigner. But I still think Wright is brilliant and did this to give Obama a grounds for divorce. Check and mate, McCain!
Here's a clue, Obama DID put on the flag pin given to him by the vet.
http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0408/Ret...
Your welcome to try again though.
"his refusal to wear a flag even after one was given to him by a vet"
See the lie there? You've been proven wrong so like any good clinton, you try to change the argument as if you said something else. This is why REAL Democrats are sick of the clintons.
See ya, wouldn't want to be ya.
---
even when the clinton supporters are Buchanan and Gingrich?
are you serious??
if rush limbaugh were to suddenly support Obama, you wouldn't find it suspect?
"if rush limbaugh were to suddenly support Obama, you wouldn't find it suspect?"
Hamas supports Obama. The president of Syria had nice things to say about Obama. Iran has nice things to say about Obama. Buchanan and Gingrich may be a lot of things but neither is a terrorist or dictator. What does it say to you that terrorists and dictators support Obama?
See how easy it is?
Anyway, I just made a contribution in support.

I guess it's difficult to understand, but YOUR party is tired, old and needing an extreme makeover. Problem is, that sort of change doesn't happen over night. I'm terribly sorry...
I'm a Democrat and always have been. We're in the same party. We just support different candidates in the primary. I know you think Hillary is a Republican but that just proves you're an idiot.
Polly - Count my vote in Michgan and she's ahead. I have a right to vote and I used it. (Please don't tell me I don't have a Constitutional right to vote because I do here in Michigan).
By the way, why do head to head polls in Michigan show Obama beating McCain while hillary loses to McCain?
I totally agree. But somehow we've got to convince her supporters to vote for Barack. How can we do that if they have aligned themselves with someone so corrupt? We would never vote for Hillary, but we have every right to expect her supporters to vote for Barack. But how do we achieve that?
What twisted reality do you live in??????

-------------------------------------------------------
may not agree with your choice for President, but I would not call you an idiot. I guess that shows a difference in character, eh?
You being an idiot says nothing about my character.
--------------------------------------------------------
I'm sorry about the Michigan/Florida debacle, I really am as it was the POLITICIANS who screwed this thing up NOT THE PEOPLE. The people should NOT be punished for what the politicians did, but that said, THEY AGREED TO A SOLUTION, and that solution was to NEGATE your vote. Yes, it stinks, I agree, but that is what THEY ALL AGREED TO.
You can't come back AFTER the fact and change the rules. Rules are set at the beginning of any competition and then you conduct that competition accordingly.
This competition was to NOT COUNT the votes and right now there is no good solution to resolve this thing. A shame...
I would have thought that Hillary ,the clear front runner, when this started ,would have never needed to stoop to the tactics she has.
I was never in the group that said from the start, I won't vote for her , but I am leaning so close to that it is scary. I can honestly say I may just not vote, but could I live with myself if I did that? I don't know.
There are HUGE issues we have to tackle, not whether someone wears a bloody pin or not.
Did you say that when the rules applied to counting Gore vs Bush votes?
------------------------------------------------------------------
There you go again. Calling me (or anyone else) an idiot because we disagree on whom may be the best candidate...and yes, it DOES say a lot about character.
"There you go again. Calling me (or anyone else) an idiot because we disagree on who the best candidate may be and it DOES say a lot about character."
No, you're not an idiot for supporting Obama. You're an idiot for saying Hillary will join a Republican administration.
Does Hamas vote in American presidential elections, that is such right wing bullshit that Hamas endorsed Obama. And if you are okay with right wing talking points and Hillary and Bills racism and bigotry then why not join the real party of hate and become a Republican like the Clintons
Are Pat Buchanan or Newt Gingrich Democratic superdelegates? If you want to talk about bullshit, calling the Clintons racist bigots and claiming they are Republicans definitely qualifies as first class, grade A bullshit.
Insightful name.
Even more insightful name since you are advocating for hillary :)
Poliy_Tics -
Did you say that when the rules applied to counting Gore vs Bush votes? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What does that mean exactly? Which rules, you mean the ones that we are supposed to count ALL of the votes like GORE wanted to?
If a flag pin is to be a symbol of patriotism (which I don't think is patriotism) then NO ONE is exempt. You are either patriotic and wear the pin or you don't wear the pin, at least that is your argument. You can't have it both ways.
Are there really people out there who care about american flag lapel pins?
If Osama Bin Laden wore one, would he too be a patriot?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That comment proves you are no Democrat, I don't care what you claim in here. But it does prove that you will stoop to any level to try to denigrate another.
