AMERICAblog: Good Morning America helps promote "Obama is Muslim" lie

Janis: I'm an intelligent, thinking person.

Me: Just for the record, I don't believe you.

    Janis: But I am...

    Me: I don't believe you.

So let me get this straight ...People still believe he is a closet Muslim after he joined a controversial church fro 20 years and almost got sunk for it because his love of the church ....OY VA VOY !!!
  • Ksue · 1 year ago
OMFG. It's STUPID VOTERS like this that get my blood to boil!!! Gaaaaaaah!

And what about stupid Kate Snow ... "... he constantly says he's a Christian."

Why can't she simply say, "He's a CHRISTIAN, you dumbass voter!"

I hope and pray there are enough educated, open-minded voters in this country to elect this man President.
  • Bludevlsadvocate · 1 year ago
    Hannah is right.

Stephanopolis came on afterward saying how Obama was going to have trouble with the "perception" that he is Muslim, not bothering to say it is an outright lie spread by his friends over at Faux News.
  • Grimmlok · 1 year ago
Switch up 'muslim' for 'jewish' or 'black' and there would have been such an outcry.....

Up yours Janis. Get a library card, you desperately need one.
  • maye · 1 year ago
GMA: He's not a Muslim, as far as I know.

Janis: But Sean Hannity told me he was. Plus his wife is the love child of Bobby Seal.
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
Janis would rather say "I'm racist" than "I'm feminist".
that might be smart in W. Virginia.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
Another reason I don't watch the morning tripe.

BTW, Obama has picked up about 4 more SDs...including Gov. Roy Romer of CO.
  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago
let me get this straight ...People still believe

It's sort of a modern neoneocon reworking of the old classic "it just takes one drop of black blood" to tilt the racial scale...It just takes one drop of false information to taint a hayseed's meagerly mind forever...
  • maye · 1 year ago
GMA: It's also been widely reported that his mother was a Communist.

    Janis: What's a communist?
  • louder · 1 year ago
Obama can't win for losing. He gets hammered over his pastor at the CHRISTIAN church he's attended for the past twenty years. Still, he's a closet Muslim... so MSM which is it? Crazy Christian or secret Muslim? MSM is total idiocy right now.
  • Andrew A. Gill · 1 year ago

What do you mean? Islam is a Christian sect.

You think I'm joking (and OK, I guess I am), but you would be surprised to learn how many people think that Muslims and Jews (and heck, just about any other religion) are Christians and worship Christ as God.

And I'm not talking about how Jesus is a prophet in Islam.

Is it safe to assume that Janis is one of those underedumacated white voters Hillary has told us about?

Dear Janis Stupid Voter: Please cut the tripe. "I won't vote for him because his skin is black." There. Is that so hard to admit?

I'm so sick and tired of dumb people.

I'm surprised that Disney/ABC doesn't just Animate the news. They could have more control content while cutting cost, and It will probably attract younger viewers. I stopped getting my info from Disney long ago. BTW GE could do theirs with anamatrons from the pentagon, sounds like a pitch for a sit-com. What would we do without the internets?
  • bcriss · 1 year ago
The point that needs to be hammered when republicans start spewing this "Obama is a Muslim" crap is that people will say they won't support Obama for president because they THINK he's a muslim, yet they have no problem sending our sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, husbands, and wives over to Iraq to die, yes DIE for muslims we don't know. You won't for this so called muslim but it's okay to sacrifice thousands of soldiers, hundreds of billions of dollars, and our status in the world to bring democracy to muslims halfway around the world. This is some fucked up backwards logic! Shouldn't it be the other way around. We would like to vote for anyone who is capable regardless of race or religion, but are extremely hesitant about sending our men and women in harms way to bring democracy to whoever. My brain hurts!

That's great journalistic work there, Kate. "He constantly says..."?

Let's try this, then: Even though "Kate Snow constantly says she doesn't blow goats for a living" I just hate to let my children watch her on TV, I mean -- she'd be a bad influence...

Dear ABC: if you hire a mental midget to represent you on the air, we'll think you're either a) stupid for hiring her, or b) stupid for not firing her. Which will it be?

Obama's been doing the full color mailers, all positive messages, pretty heavy here in Kentucky during these last two weeks if my mailbox is any example.
Senator O has a great mail effort that seems to only be talked about in the context of HRC's attack mailers. Obama's mailers I've received are positive, issue-oriented and must be themed in part to each primary locality if my "clean coal" mailer was any guide.
My favorite piece of Obama mail was from several months back...the mailing envelope came undone to form a clever Obama sign.
Slightly off topic and from a political collectible perspective (and even win or lose) Obama's campaign stuff, I'll wager, will skyrocket in value over the next few years...
  • Milli · 1 year ago
I have a friend who is a teacher and was mistaken about Obama's religion (Muslim) and discussed this with her class............

I had to correct her. Sadly. She is otherwise well-informed and savvy.

I'm going to agree with the ``He says'' outrage.

``He says''? Is there any evidence that he's a Muslim?

What's that? No? Then shouldn't you report that he's not a Muslim, rather than telling us what he says?

After all, Hillary says she hasn't lost.

It is really a shame. People let the MSM fool them every time. The problem is you can lead horses to water but you cannot make them drink.

Kate Snow gave me the clap.

If she constantly claims that she didn't, don't believe her.
  • SteamingPile · 1 year ago
The question that ought to have been asked was, "who told you Obama was Muslim?" Of course, that would have slammed the lid on that rumor once and for all, and ABC (aka The Mouse Network) can't have that.
  • kevinbgoode · 1 year ago
Janis is obviously part of the GOP's base. . .the willfully ignorant who stubbornly hold onto any talking point that gives them some fear-and-smear drama that makes them feel better about their own miserable lives.
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
and by the way, so what if he IS Muslim...
  • devis1 · 1 year ago
    Exactly.
  • bettie · 1 year ago
We have FOX Wach and now we need ABC watch. I was listening to Hugh Hewitt's show before the Jeremiah Wright story broke on ABC and a washington post columnist ( fmr Bush speechwriter) was Hewitt's guest and said the Wright story was going to get "big". ABC broke the story on GMA the next week. Let's not forget the debate ambush and the ABC cameras constantly focusing on Chelasea. ABC is a RIGHT WING TOOL. Dems need to monitor and fight back against this network b/c they will be used by the right to bring Obama down.

There is no question they will break with some anti-Obama story in October. The Obama campaign and liberals needs to paint them as an arm of the riht wing ASAP.
  • momby · 1 year ago
I just sent ABC a comment, not that it matters much. It seems they've got their agenda set.

More than even merely sloppy journalism, the nebulous attribution could not have been uttered in the regulated pre-Reagan "fairness" environment.
People who should know better and don't mention this (I'm talking to you Bill Moyers) during infrequent, to say the least, commercial pops should be ashamed...
A newsmaker could say what they wished in a "bona fide" newscast but a reporter or anchor could only say similar if quoting and attributing the newsmaker or his community-recognised political counter.
A broadcast company, after the late 1940s, could take editorial positions in the community interest. An opinion or characterization by an employed reporter or anchor or commentator would have been viewed as the employer's opinion or characterization; a position the company could be held responsible for taking during regular Federal re-licensing.
  • Gorgonzola · 1 year ago
Of all the people GMA could have put on camera they chose the one that would do the most damage to Barak Obama. It was clear from the Philadelphia debate that ABC sent George Stephanopolis and Charles Gibson out to do a hatchet job on Obama. ABC is a propaganda tool used effectively by the regressive corporate mentality of their parent company that is hell bent on rolling back the New Deal.

LOL it's the same degree I have :-) Well, I have a law degree too. It's actually one of the top, if not the top, international relations program in the US, and probably the world. She's actually pretty smart if she got into the program.
  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago

  • John Aravosis · 1 year ago
You don't care about my looks and charm? ;-)
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
John, but you're a blogger, and many of us have come to respect bloggers far more than those "stars" the networks hire. Even when she was hired away from CNN, ABC reportedly called her a "star." That's all they care about, looks, charm and an ability to read a teleprompter. I'm sure her salary more than makes up for any intelligence she has to suppress.
  • slappymagoo · 1 year ago
Thinking about it a little more on another site, and I offered this reply, which I'm copying and pasting here, because everyone here cares a great deal about what I think, or so the voices in my head tell me...

This is the only way in which I can give Kate Snow a benefit of a doubt (and I really don’t want to): If you’re talking with a woman stupid enough to think Obama’s a Muslim, then you have to be ready for same serious wingnuttery to come out of that woman’s mouth were you to counter with “But Obama’s a Christian.” We’re talking hours of conspiracy theories, charts and diagrams about how Obama’s head is just the right shape to contain a pentagram, all sortsa stupid shit, how she heard from her pastor’s cousin’s barber that Obama is Muslim for “kill whitey” and he’s never told a lie why he told me so himself so I believe him and on and on and on…Kate Snow is trying to “spray” that room, get as many interviews as possible, involve as many people, etc. She got the wingnut comment that she needed for her already-produced-in-her-mind piece (a GREAT way to report the news, don’t you know), here’s a woman who thinks Obama’s a Muslin even still. No time to delve into it, no time to get into a debate, just get the quote and move on to the next.

I’d like to think once Snow sees and hears what people are saying about her omission, that she’ll realize she did a disservice not only Obama but to the truth and news in general and make some kind of on-air apology & explanation, and while I won’t hold my breath that that’ll happen, if it WERE to happen, I’d bet a dollar an explanation comparable to mine will be her excuse.
  • devis1 · 1 year ago
O/T but media related. MSNBC just reported 25 deaths from a blast in India. The commentator quickly added there are no reports of American deaths. REALLY? I know that was my first thought. India has 1 Billion people, I wonder if there were any Americans affected. If the tornado stories were reported in India, do you think they felt it necessary to tell their listeners that no Indians were killed? WTF? Maybe it was a bombing at a U.S. embassy?

in defense of ms. snow, this is a barbara walters type interview, not journalism. the best way to ruin an interview is to correct the interviewee. it shuts them up. another way to ruin an interview is to talk over pauses. a pause encourages the interviewee to disgorge more embarrassing unscripted nonsense that the producer can turn into entertainment.

  • DAB · 1 year ago
    SteamingPile had it exactly right:
"The question that ought to have been asked was, 'who told you Obama was Muslim?' Of course, that would have slammed the lid on that rumor once and for all, and ABC (aka The Mouse Network) can't have that."

In other words, the answer would probably have been "someone on ABC talk radio."

The right-wing smears work because they defy logic: an AWOL stateside Guardsman is somehow more patriotic than someone who served in Vietnam; Barack Obama can be both a Muslim AND have a wild-eyed black Christian pastor; outlawing gay marriages strengthens straight marriages, etc. It just doesn't end. And people like this woman interviewed here fall for it because...I don't know why. Maybe the disconnect from logic is enough to snap their brains and go with their gut negative suspicions that these claims play into, since the "logic" they're presented with has obviously failed them.
  • Eyeball_Kid · 1 year ago
I just got through listening to part of a speech by Cathy O'Brien, of MK Ultra notoriety. She talks about how the media culture and the educational system trains many of us to reject critical thinking as a plausible way to solve problems. Without critical thinking, I believe, we end up sounding like the ignoramus in the GMA video.
  • FunMe · 1 year ago
Even gays keep repeating this BS lie. I was in Palm Springs and my educated friend kept saying Obama is a Muslim. I said, you can't be turning stupid, now can you?

At the end of the day, Obama is going to be President and the MSM will be one of the first to be defeated.

The blogs are killing the MSM anyway.
  • nsr · 1 year ago
My sister, who supports Hillary, said the same thing (she also likes to pass on pro-war and anti-immigrant emails from her Orange County friends, saying "what do you think about this?"). It made me think about the unspoken assumption behind it-- all Muslims are enemies of the US-- which I guess is one of her buttons. I pointed out that the Big Deal about his pastor kind of backfired because it proved, if anything, he's a Christian. But I'm not sure it made any difference to her.
  • vkobaya · 1 year ago

Is Janis stupid because she is a fundy, or is she a fundy because she is stupid?
  • KISSman · 1 year ago
Hillary is right. Obama does have a problem winning over certain whites -- particularly the willfully ignorant like Janis. We're simply going to have to do without Janis' vote (and many people like her) in the fall.

This is the voter base that Hillary is proud of being able to carry. West Virginia is statistically the least educated state and it's no surprise that Hillary is wildly popular there. While I suppose that someone needs to be able to carry them, I couldn't be proud if I were the Pied Piper leading a legion of idiots and racists.
  • RenoAnne · 1 year ago
It's amazing that in the year 2008, adults still have imaginary friends and quarrel over whose imaginary friend is the best.

Maybe we should let McCain destroy the world.
  • FacingReality · 1 year ago
Spending time focusing on this sort of nonsense doesn't move this country in the right direction. This smacks of hate filled tactics. If you want to make comments, why don't you focus on the important issues that are facing all Americans. This contry is economic chaos and young men and women are dying everyday over in Iraq. Keep the hate to yourself. It is not attractive.
  • KerrynowCampau · 1 year ago

To the jackasses that are trolling this wonderful blog. My goal is to hit -100 on my rating scores. I'll need your help. This is a fine example of journalism gone bad in America. These are highly paid idiots who are feeding the race-based fears of America's "hard-working-middle-class." I wrote a long email to ABC and voiced my concern:) The woman in the video is ignorant and past the point of "enlightenment". These are the kinds of voters that Hillary thinks could take her over the top. I'm proud to support Barack, and I've given a hell of a lot of money to his campaign. This campaign is really showing the world where this country is race-wise. Obama is an "event" whose time has come.

i just sent my complaint. one of the reason I prefer GMA over The Today show in the morning is they don't usually allow this kind of crap to happen.
  • ggm1957 · 1 year ago
I also posted what I thought of what was done.
" I am disgusted with the way you did the interview with Janis - the not-so-intelligent-voter from West Virginia who said Obama was a Muslim. You never countered that with the truth, but just left that out there. I know you are a Hillary supporter, but she has done more to harm equality than anyone else. She whines and cries to get her way. She slanders if someone gets in the way of what she wants. That is not my choice of someone to lead this country. Telling the truth ought to be a part of your job, not just promoting the lies right along with liar Hillary".
  • josh_student · 1 year ago
I will be writing ABC immediately after this. They should be ashamed of themselves for not presenting the truth.
