McAuliffe, circa 2004: Michigan "will not get seated" if they break rules by kos Fri Apr 25, 2008 at 02:54:33 PM PDT
We already had top Clinton supporter Harold Ickes, who voted to sanction Michigan at the DNC, then now complains about the sanctions he himself approved.
Now we have Terry McAuliffe himself, as DNC chairman, enforcing the very rules he now thinks should be broken.
Mark Nickolas digs out the relevant passages from Terry McAuliffe's own book:
"I'm going outside the primary window," [Michigan Sen. Carl Levin] told me definitively.
"If I allow you to do that, the whole system collapses," I said. "We will have chaos. I let you make your case to the DNC, and we voted unanimously and you lost."
He kept insisting that they were going to move up Michigan on their own, even though if they did that, they would lose half their delegates. By that point Carl and I were leaning toward each other over a table in the middle of the room, shouting and dropping the occasional expletive.
"You won't deny us seats at the convention," he said.
"Carl, take it to the bank," I said. "They will not get a credential. The closest they'll get to Boston will be watching it on television. I will not let you break this entire nominating process for one state. The rules are the rules. If you want to call my bluff, Carl, you go ahead and do it."
We glared at each other some more, but there was nothing much left to say. I was holding all the cards and Levin knew it.
[Source: McAuliffe, Terry. What A Party!, p. 325.]
Now?
Terry McAuliffe: I'm saying they've already voted, let's count the votes. I’m saying that the state parties in those states need to work with the national party and figure out how we count the votes that have already been voted.
Hypocrite.

McStain can get away with quite alot thanks to years of mutual media circle jerks...Wolf likely melts inside as he reads the warm, personalized Christmas/Hannukah card signed with Johnny 's Senate autopen and bearing Cindy's shaky, Vicoden scrawl. All this idiotic baiting and mongering is the direct responsibility of our not so beloved and very lazy corporate press, as the ABC debate displayed in crystal clarity. Someone here said it best once...the media advances debate on nothing. Each different show resets reality back to some zero point of scandal with each program's start. The same slightly rotating panels of people (now post Imus a tad more color balanced than before) with varied beliefs and agendas (none quite like your own) chew the same buzzword-filled fat endlessly while the lower third screen banner endlessly screams some bit of "Breaking News" trivia from hours in the past. From various things punditry has said lately I would imagine the days of people getting, at least, union scale for appearing have been jettisoned in favor of in kind book and/or blog hyping and the lucre coming from carrying establishment water. We need change, we need new...We need to scrub Washington with Lysol and a good stiff brush until it shines again. This explains the odd tripartite alliance between HRC, McStain and the corporate nooz...Think of the old DC political/media establishment as the Royal Family, America as Lady Di and Senator Obama as Dodi Al Fayad...No, no...Nothing going on here...As Fat Tony Scalia might say, "Move on, get over it..." Understand, no one ever skips gaily to the guillotine.

Until there is equal treatment by the press towards McCain as to democrats, he won't have to apologize. They will all just go bbq together and all will forgiven and ignored.

Cable news nets run ad attacking Obama over and over -- even as pundits note win-win for McCain
Beginning on the afternoon of April 23, MSNBC, Fox News, and CNN aired a controversial ad by the North Carolina Republican Party attacking Sen. Barack Obama and two Democratic gubernatorial candidates at least 22 times combined, in most cases also noting that Sen. John McCain denounced the ad. As media figures on MSNBC and CNN pointed out, the repeated broadcasts benefit the North Carolina Republican Party, which does not have to pay for them, and they presumably benefit McCain, even as he is credited with taking the high road for criticizing the ad.
It's what I've called TVboarding...it ain't the message it's the endless repetition. Propping up the endless repetition is the constant misstatement of slurs even after widespread public correction by prominent pet pundits. The media believes in their hearts that they will beat America into voting against her best wishes again to safeguard their interests and their families. Out of all the top-billing punditry I wonder how many are millionaires or so close they can taste it???

Floyd Brown to the GOP rescue, as always. Mr. Willie Horton ad himself!
Sadly, Polly, the corporate media is a beast that never tires (or ever dies, if Larry King isn't that is) and they know us poor ordinary folk, what with our kids and bills and humdrum problems, will, they think, internets or no.
Anyone catch Wolf and Tony Snow discussing Tony's bowel obstruction?? Lovely dinnertime conversation but Tony's politics is even more disgusting than his tube-filled cancerous bowel.

Still absent from the media discussion about John McCain and his supporter the End-Times Pastor Hagee is the question of conflict with Iran. Given his own tough talk toward Tehran, does John McCain agree with Pastor John Hagee that war with Iran is the fulfillment of biblical prophecy?
Ms Huffington put it nicely: The self-loathing liberal media's trend of embracing soulless shills and professional fabricators goes hand in hand with the look-the-other way ethos that gave us the "military analysts" scandal uncovered by the New York Times this week. And for Howie Kurtz not to make the connection between the two is either very naïve, very disingenuous, or willfully ignorant.
Though I like Obama, he DID launch his political career at a fundraiser hosted by William Ayers.
I doubt McCain has ever heard of Zirkle, much less met him. Zirkle is a fringe candidate for Congress.
Will you now hold Obama accountable for every lunatic that runs for Congress as a Democrat?
Be careful how you pick your fights. Obama has not denounced Ayers. But I bet if you ask McCain about Zirkle, and tell him what he's done, McCain will almost certainly say "Zirkle's a lunatic and I want nothing to do with him."

McCain denounced Ayers the other day; yesterday and today he denounced the whole N.Carolina GOP (and, they are pissed!). Of course he'll denounce Zirkle. McCain's trying to be the "one size fits all candidate". He would denounce his own grandmother except Obama"s taken that ploy. Obama has peaked. He's a great candidate who needs to keep McCain from occupying the high ground.
