AMERICAblog: GOP Sen. Grassley: If you want a better insurance policy, go work for John Deere or the federal government

  • uwyoalum · 5 months ago
The only reason John Deere has good health insurance is because of unions, yet I doubt Chuck Grassley is a supporter or organized labor.
  • dula · 5 months ago
But if we all go work for the government to get good healthcare wouldn't that make for "Big Government".

John Deere layoffs 494 workers at Iowa plant

Deere & Co. said that it will temporarily lay off most of the production workers at an Iowa plant because of weak demand for its products amid the global economic crisis.

The world's largest maker of farm machinery says 494 workers at its John Deere Ottumwa Works will be laid off indefinitely starting June 29. It says the factory's remaining 195 workers will be laid off periodically over the next several months.

Baucus is not out of touch with reality. The reality is that he is a bought-and-paid-for stooge for the healthcare industrial complex. They fill his pockets with money and he does what they tell him to do.

Until we get corporate money out of politics, nothing is going to change.

Baucus has been on the take from Day One. Bribery against the law? Simple, call it freedom of speech contributions. Oh, those lawyers and their wordsmithing!!!!

My husband and 14 year old son are in DC as I write this and are planning to go to Grassley's office with an employment app and account of the private insurance issues we have been through since his bypass surgery in January.in hand and ask when he gets to start that government job.

They have already been to our Senator's offices (Hutchison and Cornyn) to personally tell them that we want a public option. After that our Rep's office.

Hubbie said that the halls of Congress are so full of obvious lobbyists that he wished he had a fly swatter on him, LOL!!!

I heard the audio the other day and found Grassley's statement to be extremely offensive.
I can't believe the people in the audience didn't get up and leave.
That audio/video needs to be played over and over and over in his district.
    What a bastard.

He seems to have forgotten who he's supposed to work for. We really should be able to fire these idiots on the spot when they act like this.

Wow, there are 45 million job openings at John Deere for all the people who don't have any health insurance? And there are millions more job openings in the federal government for the people who are underinsured? Why the hell didn't anyone tell us???
  • tlsintx · 5 months ago
look at those people in Grassley's audience...all gray-haired or balding...like John Deere would hire them...

Bob Cesca says it well...Grassley needs to get the hell outta the way of a public option:

We, here in Montana, are baffled too. Max has done a lot of good things for Montana, like CHIP, but this ain't one of them. We have 21% uninsured which is unacceptable. He's always been a public servant and never had to deal with health care for himself. Kinda fit's Grassley's suggestion. Out-of-touch on this issue would describe him pretty well.

    Compassionate conservatives in action.

tlsintx: if they are all gray and balding, they have Medicare and so they have healthcare already.

I want all elderly GOPers to give up Medicare and go try to get private health insurance.
  • tlsintx · 5 months ago
    good point.

He's a sellout and beholding to the big business insurance industry and he's an arse for ignoring the will of the people.

As far as Grassley goes, he's been at the DC money trough for too long. He, Lieberman, Baucus and a host of other parasites should be retired by the people.

Clark Newhall prepared a raucous e-fax to send to Grassley. He got diametric responses from his e-mail recipients, some objecting to the harshness, others cheering him on. Right now, that Grassley fax isn't on the list of available models.

Join Health-Justice and send as many e-faxes as you like. Your donation to Health-Justice is tax deductible. My self-funded faxing at Kinkos exceeded $100 when I sent my opinions on the public plan choice to senators so I'm back to using the website plan.

I modified the text in the Health-Justice e-fax for Feingold and Merkley since I found Newhall's wording confrontational and inappropriate for those two senators.

Is this the same John Deere that just laid a bunch of people off last week???
  • woodka · 5 months ago
You mean he's going to vote for the public option to come with a government job, too? Cool!

Oh wait, that's not what he meant?

Pretty amusing. My father worked for John Deere, my grandfather worked for John Deere, I know the company well. Deere survived the farm equipment bust in the 80's largely on the strength of it's insurance division, which was able to compensate for the losses in the agricultural and construction divisions. In the 90's, the insurance division started to head south, largely due to issues with reimbursing doctors (I had a friend who worked in their insurance dept and their internal goal was to make doctors wait at least one year for payment).

Their health insurance was once top notch, but now, not so much. I know my mother's coverage is far inferior to what was available a mere 10 years ago. I think she would agree that John Deere is a prime example of the need for a public option..

    Impeach that senator!

I'm really thankful for YouTubes showing our members in congress expressing what we've been saying for some time. They do not believe they work for us. They believe they are special and should experience special perks. They are elitists and think our job is to make sure their needs are met. They do not think its their job to ensure the government works to ensure the citizen's needs are met. Senator Grassley and those fighting government health care just prove this point over and over again.

    He is such a jerk.
