Don't forget those ghoulish attempts at smiles along with the dead vacant dark eyes...

    the whispery
    "...yes my friends...."
  • Steve_in_CNJ · 1 year ago
speaking of Obama's acceptance speech, looks like we dodged a bullet here:
    http://www.thedenverchannel.com/politics/171667...

btw, nobody is mocking McCain's 72 years. Just the last 35 or so.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
Steve, I think that focus on the Family would have been the one "hit" if they continued that ad, it was grotesque and infantile in lieu of what the nation is going through.

I think they pulled it because of the what they heard others saying about it...did you see it? Disgusting and it invited ridicule (for FOTF, not for Obama)
  • Steve_in_CNJ · 1 year ago
FOTF the object of ridicule? I'm going to need some time.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
I know, I know they are already the object of ridicule for many, it's the remaining 10% that might just laugh at them as well.
  • bluestockton · 1 year ago
The real kernel of news in this story is that for once the religious right was capable of being embarrassed.
  • Soundboy_jeff_meanie · 1 year ago
“Nobody likes a funeral,” said a Senate Republican press secretary who spoke on the condition of anonymity
    ---

    hmm... not sure about that.

I think I'd even spring for a new suit if dick cheney died.
  • moreleesafer · 1 year ago
Deal! I'l pick up the noisemakers and appetizers.
  • Soundboy_jeff_meanie · 1 year ago
is it just my internet explorer... or is the comments window messed up for everyone?

the scroll to the right is bugging me big time. each line has something like 50 words in it before a line feed.

what's up with that? it doesn't do this on the regular Americablog.com screen, just the comments window.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
I dunno Jeff, my screen seems fine but then again, I'm using FIREFOX. I don't know which system you're using, but you should give Firefox a try, I find it works around lots of problems that plague other browsers.
  • Steve_in_CNJ · 1 year ago
it's when the ads don't load. i just switch to another browser.
  • gumbygirl · 1 year ago
    Mine's doing it too.
  • HereinDC · 1 year ago
    BWAHHHH!
    OMG!
I laughed so out loud at my desk when I read that headline that
people came to my desk and wanted to know what happened.

    LOL

Should we all wear black arm bands during the GOP Convention?

I mean..they wore purple fingers during the 2004 GOP Convention.

There has got to be something we can do during their convention that is not too offensive...but something that shows the somber mood of the GOP Convention.

    Come on...think of something.

( You know the GOP is going to do something evil)
  • Steve_in_CNJ · 1 year ago
how about a national 'take your grandfather to work' day?
  • Mikki --SE Pennsylvania · 1 year ago
Steve you are really cooking with gas today!
    I love it!
  • Grrrowler · 1 year ago
So the Repubs in the party know that the upcoming election is going to be a disaster for them, but the traditional media is still reporting that it's a neck and neck race. There's obviously a disconnect there...
  • Mike_H · 1 year ago
I believe there's two things could be going on. Most likely, it's that a tighter race equals better ratings. People tune out of a blowout, and they need the advertising revenue.

For those who like conspiracy theories, it could also be that the corporate media needs to make it look like a close race -- so that when Diebold voting machines flip Ohio and Florida for a McCain electoral victory, the people believe it's a legitimate win, and we get a Bush third term.
  • HereinDC · 1 year ago
Besides wear an Obama pin....the week of the GOP convention.

there has got to be something else we can wear.
  • Chris From Maine · 1 year ago
speaking of a funeral, one needs to be held for the Justice department.. read this amazing statement from Mukasey :

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/08/12/justic...

But, he told delegates to the American Bar Association annual meeting, "not every wrong, or even every violation of the law, is a crime. In this instance, the two joint reports found only violations of the civil service laws."

NOT EVERY VIOLATION OF THE LAW IS A CRIME!?!?!?!?!
  • Soundboy_jeff_meanie · 1 year ago
wow... after reading the whole article...

I feel sorry for all the rent boys flocking to the twin cities for the convention.
  • HereinDC · 1 year ago
How about the 1st week of September ( GOP Convention) is the

"Unofficial Septuagenarian Week" and John McCain is the Grand Poobah!
  • HereinDC · 1 year ago
    Too Funny:

    Look at September 4th.
Look at what is famous for this day.
It's the Last Day of the GOP Convention...Sept. 4th.

    Holidays & Observances - September 4, 2008 (Thursday):

    * The Edsel was introduced September 4, 1957

  • Gorgonzola · 1 year ago
Why don't they get David Duke to fire up the crowd?
  • moreleesafer · 1 year ago
ooooh I just got this song in my head. Remember Prince's "1999"?

The GOP convention theme song "1899"

    Tooooo-night we're going to party like it's 1899!"
  • donotmakemecomedownthere · 1 year ago
Can't we just put the rotting carcass of the GOP into a shoebox and bury it in the backyard?

Then we can adopt a new, cudlier government!
  • Mike_H · 1 year ago
I think it's pretty clear that the GOP will have to use the post-convention time to make more attack ads. The "enthusiasm gap" will be patently obvious during the conventions, but that still leaves several weeks of advertising and debates to try to erase the funereal impression of the McCain convention.

I also think that they will be watching closely for anything they can exploit, particularly since they think the "celebrity" attack ads are "getting" to Obama. I expect the Democratic convention to be one of the best they've had in years, but I do hope the team is ready for the BS-storm that will follow. The GOP truly has nothing left but to fight dirty, and so they will -- and hard.
  • whomod · 1 year ago
    Well.....

If McCain can't bring them to the convention, perhaps all those hooker I read about last week, will.
  • HereinDC · 1 year ago
Just saw this on Daily Kos:

Vote Boredom. Vote Apathy. Vote McCain
  • Mikki --SE Pennsylvania · 1 year ago
I like it. It has a nice ring to it!
  • falloch · 1 year ago
'GOP Senate Aide calls McCain Convention a "funeral"' - which is why I think there actually might be a funeral, or at least a sudden need for McPain to spend more time with either his family, his surgeon(s), or both, before the convention, though who knows what younger-looking but less demented or religiously obsessed candidate they will find to parachute in McP's place.

Where are the Obama webBOPPERS? All on vacation too. Last night, for the first time since last Saturday, Obama's BOP TOTAL surged past McCain's total on the htttp://www.BOP-O-METER.com. Maybe it is time Obama gets out his Rock Star fans to motivate his base.
