AMERICAblog: GOP Senator Ensign allegedly paid mistress $25,000. Was it federal taxpayer money?

  • Dwayne Decker · 4 months ago
I wonder how long it took for her to earn that $25K? Did she charge by the hour, or did she give Ensign a flat rate like Julia Roberts did for Richard Gere in Pretty Woman?

And how do her rates compare to Jeff Gannon's? Or Matt Sanchez's? Sanchez was charging $300 an hour for "out calls" before he stopped hooking in 2002. (See his old escort ad below. Notice how his full legal name appears in the meta tags...)

It looks like trading sex for cash and career advancement is SOP in the GOP these days.

Ay, Dios mio! I threw up in my mouth. You really should warn people about the VPL on that web page. A VPL that Sean Hannity has probably seen up close, btw.

Matt Sanchez said he joined the military after 9/11, but that picture was taken on 3/22/02. Which means he was working as a gay hooker after he joined the military? And yet he wasn't kicked out because of DADT? Something doesn't add up here. Are you sure that's really Matt Sanchez?

I guess Dan Choi will have to start selling his body for $300 an hour if he wants his life back. I don't understand this.
  • Dwayne Decker · 4 months ago
Oh it's him alright. Right click and select "view source." His full legal name, Matthew Sanchez, is in the author tag. There's no denying it. And now he works for Fox News! So expect Rupert Murdoch's media to avoid the sex-for-money angle. They clearly don't have a problem with hiring whores.

I'm not sure how he managed to avoid getting thrown out of the military. You can see from these records...

    http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://excellent-t...

...that Sanchez was prostituting himself as recently as July 1, 2002. People have been kicked out for a lot less.

I have this theory that Roger Ailes, or one of his top men associates, has a male casting couch. Have you seen the male eye candy on Fox News?!
  • Dwayne Decker · 4 months ago
No, but I think I've just been rendered impotent by the thought of Steve Douchey on a casting couch.

For every Doocy and Kilmeade there is a Dave Briggs.

Nice timing, Doug Hampton! Keep it in the news. Get back at your cheating wife and drag your boss through the mud.

You have to love republican family values.
  • KISSman · 4 months ago
MSNBC is now reporting that Ensign's parents also took part in the payoff by giving $100,000 to the woman as hush money as well. Oh, this is good...
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 4 months ago
I like to think of them having to get a second mortgage to bail out their 55 year-old juvenile delinquent son.

    "Dad, Mom?"

    "Have some more Wheaties, son."

"You look like you want to get something off your chest, Biff."

    "I . . . I" [picking nervously at a pimple]

    "Go on."

    "Iknockedupgirlatschool and . . . and . . . she wants . . . she wants money . . .' [starts to blubber].
  • scottinsf · 4 months ago
It is important to understand that the hush money was out of concern for the well being of longtime family friends during a difficult time.

Nothing to see here, move along.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 4 months ago
That's almost the exact quote "crafted" by some high-powered damage-control PR firm!

    LOL!
  • tigergrrldc · 4 months ago
Sandford leaves his state virtually unattended and Ensign gives his mistress and her son money, but neither feels they need to resign. This isn't just about adultery, but that's what they want us to focus on, so they can say they are forgiven and let's move on.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 4 months ago
It's OK, but ONLY if you are a Republican-"Christian."
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 4 months ago
As Rachel pointed out last night, even the 19 year-old son was on the payroll.

    Ensign's twinkalicious staffer!
  • scottinsf · 4 months ago
It sounds to me like a criminal probe might be warranted. We certainly shouldn't expect an ethics probe from the democrat controlled congress; he's their good buddy and colleague after all.
  • rosso_LR · 4 months ago
Seems to me some resignations are imminent...
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 4 months ago
Oh, don't think he'll try to brazen it out, like his ilk do (Vitter, Craig, et al).
  • rosso_LR · 4 months ago
Indeed! All they have to do is ask for forgiveness and they get a standing "O" from their ilk on the senate floor...

    Hilarious...

    That's entertaining!

And we haven't even BEGUN to get into Biblical Marriage-defender homophobe Marion Berry's exploits. He and his on-the-payroll booty call are contending for The Filthiest People Alive.

Washington City Paper has the dirt.

I'm kind of surprised John hasn't brought that up yet. Considering Barry has gone through four marriages and is still getting arrested and still stalking women deserves at least one post.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 4 months ago
And the lone vote on the City Council AGAINST DC recognizing same-sex marriages performed in other states.

BTW, the stalking charge got dropped this morning. He's off the hook, legally, for now. But the voice mails should finally finish his political career, since the church ladies of the 8th Ward surely can't stand any more of his mayhem and mischief and the ugly words comin' outta his mouth.
  • DBTE2 · 4 months ago
LOL - Marion is the politician that just won't go away! No matter how many times he's arrested, or for what - people still put him in office and give him respect. Seriously, the drug deal on video would do anyone else in - not Marion! He'll be forgiven - again.
  • Zorba · 4 months ago
You beat me, DBTE2! Great minds think alike. ;-)
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 4 months ago
I'm not so sure--did you listen to the voice mails? Muy caliente!
  • Zorba · 4 months ago
Oh, I don't know. They re-elected him, first to the City Council, then again as mayor, and then to the City Council again, after his high-profile "b*tch set me up" crack-cocaine conviction. The church ladies didn't seem to have any problems then with his potty-mouth, and drug use. He's had a variety of other run-ins with the law, including for failing to pay his income taxes for numerous years. They love him in D.C., so I wouldn't be surprised if he continues to be re-elected. He's like the phoenix- he keeps rising again after each immolation.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 4 months ago
The voice mails are a different kettle of fish, perhaps. People now have to reckon with pictures in their own minds of a 73 year-old man wheedling for a blow job, and then throwing a woman out of a hotel room when she won't do it.

    Tom Coburn: Ensign's Wingman.
  • HelenRainier · 4 months ago
According to this article at Yahoo! News, Ensign's parents also paid the Hampton family nearly $100,00 supposedly "out of concern" for long-time family friends.

    Sure, sure.

If Ensign was a Democrat, the Republicans would be loudly demanding he resign.

The GOP has become a caricature of itself. Honestly, the jokes are writing themselves at this point.
  • HelenRainier · 4 months ago
Hell, not even Franken could write something this hysterical! Besides, if it came from the pen of a comedy writer, who would believe it?
