Mark Sanford needs to resign now. And if he doesn't resign, let's see if the South Carolina legislature will live up to their end of responsibility by impeaching this self-righteous, faux Christian, wife cheating low-life!
I understand that people make mistakes and don't always behave in a moral way. But, what I DO resent is that Republicans berate any one not adhering to rigid "Christian Values", when they are as guilty as anyone for behaving inappropriately. They just have the convenient fallback response that because they are christian they will be forgiven. Disgusting.
Marriage is sacred and must only be between a man and a woman and his Bible study group.

Senator Craig should had resigned, or at least been kicked out or censured by the Senate. Vitter was just being a creep. The difference between Vitter and Spitzer was the paper trail. Vitter could had easily been indicted if there were better records of his connection to the call girl ring besides his phone number with the madam.
Ensign may have to resign if these potential lawsuits against him by the Hamptons are very damaging. Firing an employee or making them leave because the ending of an affair is not good.
It was probably good that his call girl history came out, because he was a potential candidate for US Attorney General whether Clinton or Obama became President.
It would had been a nightmare for Spitzer to try to govern with criminal indictments hanging over him, The Feds had him over a barrel, with the wiretaps and money trail.

You are 100% right. Just listen to the talking heads swoon about what a stand up guy Sanford is, how admired he is for coming forward, etc... I think he spent 5 days getting schooled in how to win friends when you're exposed as another Republican lying f&%^ing fraud. And it's working! This is the major Media's Gomer Pyle moment in South Carolina.
Downside... Palin can now wipe Mark Sanford away as a potential 2012 contender.
I actually have a little sympathy for the guy, given Portenas are very tempting, but he already has a family in a bible belt state, and there is no way he is going to get away with this.

If you watched the press conference, you would have seen a guy who looked contrite and straight-forward. I suppose there might be more to the story but I'm not sure what else you think he's covering up.
My point though is not that he was honest by enumerating every one of his life's sins, but that he came right out and owned up to a couple serious and embarrassing ones. And sadly, that's not something politicians are good at.
