For the haters that always slam Pride with the old straw man that they don't celebrate "heterosexual pride", well, here you go. Governor Patrick is proud of his daughter. His daughter is proud of him. I'm proud of the REAL family values shown by the Patrick's. You can certainly understand why haters like Alan Keyes---who has a much sadder relationship to his lesbian daughter--- don't understand what LGBT Pride is all about. Their loss.

    Good for you Governor Patrick.

    Meanwhile.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Heterosexual couples are rushing to get married in a conservative California county that plans to halt all civil wedding ceremonies as gay marriage is set to be legalized.

Kern County Clerk Ann Barnett says Friday is the last day the county will perform civil weddings.

Starting Tuesday, when the California Supreme Court's order legalizing same-sex marriage takes effect, Kern will issue new gender-neutral marriage licenses as required by law. But couples seeking to get hitched will have to go somewhere else for the ceremony.

Barnett says the increased demand for ceremonies would overwhelm her staff and pose office security risks. She made the announcement after learning she could not marry only couples of her choosing.

What a sweet story. She and her father are both absolutely adorable.

I am so glad I am a member of the party that celebrates and appreciates diversity instead of the one that is guided by hate and fear.

Compare Gov Patrick with Cheney. Patrick helps his daughter before he even knows she is gay. Cheney does nothing and whenever he is asked about it, he accuses the interviewer of being "out of line" or rude. They both freak out if you mention their gay daughter in any context, and accuse the democratic politicians of being "bad guys". They are pathetic.

Please god send us more people like this to enter politics. Please. We need them.

It's kinda funny how Patrick is constantly (in the article) talking about how he didn't really want to do this interview because they wouldn't be doing one to tell the world that his daughter is straight. I can think of at least one Idaho senator who has done just that. (:

Congratulations to the family. I have close friends who haven't come out to one of their parents, and I'm glad they worked out!

Contrast this with the Cheneys' reponse to the same experience.

Couldn't get into regular comments so tacking it on here.

Wow. Someone doesn't freak out because a human being chooses the manner in which they find love. Weirdo!

Silliness aside, I always find it touching and encouraging to see parents who realize when it's their kid coming out, that they are living proof of fact that same sex attractions are not aberrations but part of the varied human tapestry. Many documentaries have shown where otherwise right wing parents realize that they've been so very wrong about this issue.

Much happiness to the Patricks and all their family, friends, and loved ones.

What a contrast this is to Massachusetts' former governor, the revealingly anti-gay Mitt Romney. What if one of his sons came out (something that wouldn't surprise certain Romney watchers...)? What would his reaction be?
